I bought my nephew's 350Z. I inherited a Macco installed front bumper held on with tie wraps and cheap aftermarket headlights. I found Exotic Customs on Craig's list while I was looking for a new bumper. Mike Snyder of EC had a like-new one from his 350Z he was customizing. When I went to pick it up and I was listening to him discuss repairs, I got a sense that he was the man to fix my car. Mike is very frank, honest and transparent in his approach to repairs. He also happens to be an expert on 350Z's (but I will let him tell that story). Mike is not a "cut corners" kind of guy; he likes to use quality (often OEM) parts, has exceptional access to get parts quickly and the installation was top shelf quality. My experience with EC was not for anything exotic, but the results were fantastic. I paid a fair price and I don't have to drive around with extra tie wraps anymore. These guys have worked on all of my cars. Mike designed custom wheel spacers for my STi and machined them to include the center cap and hubrings to save me the expense of buying those extra parts. He even came to my house to install the spacers and new wheels. While he was here I had him remove the wheels from my Lambo to repair and powder coat them black. He suggested they do a ceramic nano coating over the entire rim to keep the brake dust off and wow!!! I was so amazed at how well it worked, I had them detail and coat the entire car with the ceramic nano coating. Water rolls right off the car now and the dirt doesn't even stick to the surface!! I got my lights done in 2008 and I know recently live in Los Angeles California. My lights literally just went out a couple days ago so the lights that I got at the store lasted me almost 10 years which I am very happy about. So I wanted to share my HORRIBLE experience with this company. This will be a long review but I want all the facts known. I called this place because I was unhappy with the color of the HID headlight bulbs in my car. Mike, the owner, told me that he specialized in these bulbs, that he actually made his own bulbs in house that were better than OEM, and that he had licensed HID technology from a huge company to make his own equipment. He gave me a price and we made an appointment for that Monday. I took my car in on Monday and left it with Mike. I never saw anyone else in his shop. He charged me $80.00 for the bulbs and $89.00 for an hour of labor to install them. At about noon he called and asked if I wanted my high-beams converted to one of his aftermarket kits. When I said no, he asked me if I didn't have the money to do it. I went to pick up my car that evening. He went out to my car with me and turned the headlights on, and the passenger side was not working. He told me to keep an eye on it and that it was likely the ballast on my car. He said that he "makes" a ballast that works better and that he recommended I let him convert my car over to his equipment. I had no intention of letting him cut wires on my car. The next day I took my car to an Audi dealer who tested it and said that the ballast was fine, and that the problem was the bulbs that Mike had installed. I called Mike and let him know and we made an appointment for Friday to have the bad bulbs replaced. Friday, I took my car in, and Mike told me that my dealer had no idea how HID bulbs work and that mechanics "are not engineers" and are "only trained to replace things." At noon, I called and Mike told me that the bulb seemed to be working. That afternoon I went to pick up my car, and while on the way, Mike called me. He said that the bulbs were flickering after trying 3 sets and that the problem was my car. I told him that I have a warranty and the dealer will cover the part and that I would have the dealer fix it. He then told me that when I went to the dealer, they were going to blame his bulbs so that they didn't have to replace the ballast. I argued with him and said that this sounded fishy. He actually said that the dealer would replace the bulb and that "6-8 months down the road the new bulb SHOULD fail." I didn't even really know what this meant. I argued that everything worked until he touched my car and that I didn't believe for a minute that this was a problem with the car. I asked Mike what he thought a judge would think and he began to get loud. Mike then asked me a strange question. He asked if I wanted my original bulbs put back in. When I asked if he still had them he said he would "dig them out of the trash." This was strange. How did he still have my old bulbs, accessible, in the trash, from FIVE DAYS before?? I asked him this and he said that I was to come pick up my car and get my money back. When I got there he gave me a refund and had put my old bulbs back in. So I pose these questions: 1. Why, if the problem is my car do the old bulbs work fine? 2. If it took a full hour of labor to install them the first time, how did he switch them back in the 10 minutes it took between our conversation and my picking up my car? 3. Why did he still have my old bulbs on hand 5 days later, and why did he have to "dig them out of the trash?" Bear in mind I have no proof of the following and this is just my opinion...but I think he is selling cheap aftermarket parts, and marketing them as manufactured in house. I also SUSPECT that he kept my old bulbs in order to re-sell them. Stay away from this place. Yes, I got my money back. But, I didn't get the 2 hours work I missed, or my gas running back and forth, and my wasted time. This is the LAST place I would ever take my car. What a GREAT place to do business if you car is in need of any upgrades or enhancements when it comes to performance! The owner, Mike Snyder, is truly "hands on" and takes a personal approach to every job that he does (somewhat rare in today's world of business). I found Mike and his company on a local social media site and contacted him about what I was looking to do for my 2007 Nissan Altima. He personally returned my phone call and promptly made an appointment to see me to discuss the work that I had in mind. He explained everything in detail with all of the options, including showing me some photos of past similar work he had performed. If this doesn't make you feel better about a purchase, nothing will. His passion about his work is truly evident and his assurance to "do the job right the first time" was comforting. True to his word, Mike delivered my car (newly installed HID headlights and replacement HID fog lights) as promised! His craftsmanship was impressive and exactly as we discussed. It's clear that Exotic Customs has made a name for itself in the area for good reason and I am happy to say that they have me as a repeat customer, FOR SURE!!! Well, let me tell you about my ABSOLUTELY AMAZING experience with Exotic Customs and its owner Mike. Sorry, for the lengthy review, but I feel this needs to be mentioned, so others don't make the mistake I almost made. My BMW dealer told me my 2010 BMW 335xi needed to have the passenger side HID head light replaced due to a broken part. The total parts and labor cost were almost $2,200. This seemed expensive. While searching online for a used head light for my car, I came across Exotic Customs. I read online they specialize in HID head lights. I read the review from Roger M. here on yelp and after reading about his experience I decided "no way, I'm not going through what he did". So I continued my search, clueless that I was about to make a bad decision to go elsewhere based on a bad review. Eventually I purchased a used headlight from a place with great reviews. After the dealer tells me I bought the wrong headlight, the place wouldn't return it. I was furious I had wasted $650 on the wrong head light! A colleague at work overheard my complaint and told me to call Exotic Customs. He mentioned lighting is one of their specialties. I showed him the bad review about their HID lights. He laughed and proceeded to show me pictures of his friend's car they had recently customized. He called his friend, who had nothing but good things to say about Exotic Customs and especially about the owner Mike. I mentioned the bad review online and he stated "you can't believe everything you read online. Once you see what they do there, I guarantee you won't want to go anywhere else". So, based on the referral from my colleague's friend, I called Exotic Customs to make an appointment to see what they would charge to fix my head light. When I arrived 30 min early, Mike was working with another customer, so I waited for him to finish. While listening to their discussion I felt confident Mike knew what he was talking about. Once they finished, Mike looked over my car, found some bad components in the headlight and he recommended he repair the broken piece. I told him my dealer said it needed replaced. He smiled politely and said "I can actually fix it for much less". I inquired about cost. He put together 3 different proposals. One to fix the headlight the least expensive way, another to fix it with a new replacement BMW parts and a third option using their upgraded parts. All of his options were at least $1000 less than my BMW dealership!! I questioned all of the options. He explained them thoroughly, made recommendations and let me choose. He was very knowledgeable about how all of the parts were made and the installation process. I ended up going with the more expensive option using their custom upgraded parts. I felt this was the best option. Mike put through the order to produce the parts and called me a week later for installation. When I dropped off my car, the guy that was dropping off his car when I first stopped in, was picking it up. It looked like a totally different car. I was very impressed with the repairs, paint work, and custom parts they made. It looked as if the car had never been wrecked. The guy told me he couldn't believe how different the work was at Exotic Customs. He said they were more expensive than the other shop he went to, but the work was much more impressive. My car was in the shop overnight and Mike called me the next day to pick it up. When I arrived, Mike showed me everything they did to my car. He actually did the head light repair work himself. He showed me how everything worked just as the original BMW parts did. My headlights are now almost twice as bright as the original BMW lights, allowing me to see more of the road! ....and the lights don't blind oncoming drivers, because they used the original BMW headlight. Their work and parts are definitely top notch! I'm amazed they were able to fix my head light and make both headlights even brighter for half the price my dealer quoted me. They even give a warranty on the head light parts which the dealer wont warranty electrical parts! So in conclusion, I am glad I listened to my colleague's friend about going to Exotic Customs and seeing for myself what they do. This shop is real hidden treasure in West Chester. They are honest, upfront about everything, and actually care about the work they do. They don't want you to waste your money buying new parts if they can effectively repair the part for less. To me that's a great way to meet your customer's needs. After seeing how Mike runs this shop, I'm glad I went with his option. Even after wasting $650 on wrong headlight, I still spent less than my dealers quote. So, for those like myself who always read reviews and make decisions based on them, I'd recommend actually checking out the place before you judge them based on one bad review. I met with mike and ordered a set of hids from him and they came in the next day, very knowledgeable and friendly!!! The hids couldn't be any better, they were very simple to install and man oh man the CLEAN, CRISP light they project is unbelievable!!
