It was dark and moody in here which was cool, but hard to see as it was nighttime when I visited. I ended up here because I was hungry and I decided to give fish and chips another try. Unfortunately, like my first attempt at fish and chips, the Exmouth Arms platter was super bland. First time at the Exmouth Arms and it met my expectations for a cross between traditional pub and craft beer pub. They had a good selection of craft beers, some UK, some Euro and some US. Also a very decent bottle list as well. Had a small plate of the chicken with Korean BBQ sauce which was tasty. The building is cool, green tile and all. read more

A pubs a pub, a pubs, pub. You know what I mean. This is the kind of boozer I grew up drinking in. Battered tables, old locals and young 'uns trying to order a pint. Just on Exmouth Market, it's a hot spot for evening trade during the week, providing the perfect post work pint location. I came here with a mate and had a good old chin wag over some ciders. It was lovely. Nothing special and I don't think I'd travel to it, but if you are in the area and fancy a quite pint, head here. On an adventure to find a pub that was playing the Atl. Madrid & Barcelona game, we came up to this cozy pub. There was a large flat screen and no was watching it. The bartendress was nice enough to change the channel for us. And it was just in time to see Barcelona kick in 3 goals only 15 minutes into the game! The atmosphere is quite comfortable and it's full of lots of locals. Romantic lighting and clean bathrooms. Drinks are pretty cheap, from 2 to 3 pounds. I'm just happy that Barcelona won! read more

I wandered in here last Friday night somewhere between Happy Hour at Cotton's and debauchary on Upper Street. The place has a dive-bar feel to it, something that I quite enjoyed about the establishment. We were a mixed crowd, the women found a table over in the corner and sat and chatted. The men on the other hand were standing up bantering over a game of darts - albeit I stumbled upon Golden Tee 2009 to which I had to place like I was 10 years old. Cheap pints - Foster's were £2.80. Didn't stay much more than an hour - but this is a cool little pub to swing through if you're in the area. read more

An attractive enough pub in a picturesque part of London, but what it offers is pretty standard or even disappointing from what I sampled. Although I'm sure they're proud of their selection of more independent beers (and no doubt some would be delighted by that), what I really wanted was more choice in the draught lager department - it seemed to be limited to Camden Hells when I was there, which I don't particularly enjoy. We ate there too. I had fish and chips, which was really unexciting - chips not bad (though not traditional fish and chip chips - they were thinner), but fish pretty forgettable. A colleague had some hot wings that were far too hot for her - would have assumed she just had a milder taste but other people then tried who all thought they were pretty ridiculous. Also spend much of the night shivering because we could only get a table by the door, which led right into the pub so there was no protection from the wind. read more

Stopped in for a quick drink and a bite before a wedding - a pretty good place to meet friends! Lots of big tables, a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, and decent food. The squid with garlic mayo was yummy - yet not spicy despite being advertised as 5 pepper squid, and the char-grilled Creole Succotash was a yummy salad of BBQ chicken and lots of veggies. A little heavy on the BBQ sauce flavor, but a lighter option if you don't want heavy pub food. Pretty noisy in there, but it was a Saturday night, so what do you expect? I'd come back for a drink if I was in the area for sure, my fiancé liked it even more and thought it was a really brilliant pub. read more

I only popped into the Exmouth Arms for a quick drink on my way to a dinner reservation and wish I could have stayed longer. It was still sunny when I visited and but sadly I couldn't grab one of the outside tables as they were already occupied. Inside the pub is fairly unremarkable however the same can't be said about the drink selection. There was a choice of about 5 craft beers, 2 of which were fantastic, the usual selection of lagers and a pretty decent wine list with a bottle of house red/white costing a few £ short of £20. My main disappointment with having to leave was not getting to try the food. There's a number of sliders available and some of them sound absolutely incredible. Next time I visit I'll be doing my best to work my way through all 12! read more

Love Exmouth Market. Love the Exmouth Arms. Great beer selection, not totally grotty bathrooms, good outdoor options, friendly people who won't elbow you at the bar. BEST place to do a summertime wind down at the end of a workweek. I disagree with other comments that "a pub's a pub". This has a little extra special sauce. Having wanted to visit Exmouth Market for a while, it is one of those places you seem to always come across when you are on the way somewhere, like Angel or Old Street as its a short street full of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. It seemed Exmouth Arms was the place to go first for a drink. It is an old style pub with stained glass windows with the bar being the focal point of the bar, it was very busy inside and not a lot of chairs. You may need to watch out for those people who think their coat & bag needs a chair to keep it safe. The drink princes were a bit odd at times, it always seemed to be £15 for 3 drinks, no matter what we ordered, it might have been a deal or just one of those pubs where anything on a Friday goes. They also do food and have some sliders, but if you are really hungry, the sliders are barely a mouthful but there was a massive selection. I'd probably go again, but I'd also venture around to see if there was a cheaper pub with more seating and less loud music, all depends what you want. read more

I have been past here a few times and ignored it with the arrogant assumption that if it was any good then I'd have heard about. Consider me very much put right! This is a popular place on one of the more pleasant central London streets. Four beers available, all of them interesting selections. The place looks great, a bit like a mix between an apothecary and an old library, with really comfy chairs. Service is good too, an there's no chance you'll ever go dehydrated as they keep refilling your water glass. The cocktails were decent, but not the best I've tried in the area... So I'm afraid I'll only visit again if my absolute fave place (Bitters & Rye) is not open like it was the case this time. read more

So here's the story. Until a couple years ago this was a terrifying pub where it was easier to get stabbed than to get a pint. Then came the new landlords, who restored this boozer to its rightful place among the pubs of Clerkenwell. Once again it deserves to be known as the namesake of Exmouth Market. The bar is well stocked and is particularly notable for the selection of local lagers and ales. The staff are friendly, and the sliders are delicious if slightly small for my giant American appetite. read more

Me and some friends popped in for a couple of cocktails in the bar upstairs tonight. Went into the bar and no one received us so we found a table and sat down. An extremely rude waiter/barman then came up to us and explained extremely sarcastically and condescendingly that he was supposed to seat us. A simple misunderstanding as he didn't come over when we came in did not merit rudeness and arogance towards customers. We left to go to the pub downstairs and mentioned it to the barman who just said maybe they were busy. I have worked in hospitality all my life and being busy is no excuse for talking to paying customers like that. Disgusting to be spoken to like that when we had done nothing wrong. Absolutely awful service from a girl tonight Sunday 2nd of Julu. The pub wa not even closed yet but at 23:52 the girl just grabbed the drink from my boyfriend hands saying: "Have you finished this?" - without even waiting from him to say yes or no. I know you want to close down and go home but we are paid customers and I swear God, never had such a bad customer service in a pub before. ... have been here several times after work and service was never that good, leaving aside generally dirty glasses. Yesterday we have been kicked out of the pub after literally just sitting down with a glass of wine as all of the sudden they wanted to close. The bouncer took away our glasses and physically pushed us out, also refusing our request to see the bathroom before we leave. Can still hardly believe the experience. Good place for a Friday after work drink, they have a good selection of special beers. Food is ok, your typical pub food and portions are ok as well (not too bing not too small). As you may have seen from the other reviews on here, this place has a bit of a past, and it would be fair to say that before its refurbishment in late 2011 it was a bit of a dump with an 'illustrious' history. The refurb has, I'm delighted to say, completely transformed it, and it is now one of my favourite pubs in the area. It is one large bar now, with probably the biggest selection of ales, beers, and ciders in the area. Staff are friendly and approachable and know their stuff about the beers they have. Wine is a good selection and reasonably priced. Its a good mix of clientele, professionals, posties who used to drink in The Pakenham, and locals. It is dog friendly, and spacious tables are not on top of each other and you can actually speak without being overheard. Food here is outstanding worthy of mention are the home made slider plates three mini burgers from a selection of about 10 to cater for all tastes, the Voodoo chicken wings are delicious and they do a great Sunday lunch. This pub is at the centre of the transformation of Exmouth Market and has helped transform it from a tired old London street into a place that its now possible to enjoy a nice night out well worth trying. read more

I'm not really sure what to think of this place. It's a really nice old pub, has been refurbished well and has a great selection of beer. There's only one problem - the price of the beer. It's the first time in London I've paid £7 for a pint. To be fair, there was cheaper lager, but I'm a fan of American-style ales, and the cheapest one on offer was £7. This was actually significantly cheaper than some of the bottles, which went up to a crazy £12 for one of the 375ml bottles of saison. For this reason, I probably won't be going back. I'm happy paying a premium for craft beer, but this is just too much. I was tempted to give them a forth star, but then I remembered my other frustration, which was that they allowed almost all of the tables to be booked, so even though we got there at 5pm, we struggled to find a table, even though the pace was pretty empty! I don't mind pubs taking table reservations, but not for almost all of the tables. read more

The roughest pub in Clerkenwell. If there was a league of hard pubs, where tatooed locals were pitted against each other in battles of thuggery, this would be a wildcard. Despite coming from a genteel area, it has all the hallmarks of a council estate pub in one of the worst districts of London. In many ways that's an achievement. read more
