I do not recommend doing business with Exeter Finance. I'd give them zero stars if I could. They were unprofessional, clueless and incompetent. I am review on behalf of the dealership I help run, and we were in the process of signing up with them to use them for financing. We set up with them in October, or we thought we did, and when we recently submitted an loan application, they had us mixed up with another dealer in another state, and we had to start the process all over again. Without going into more detail, our loan application was just about to go into funding with them when they turned down our application to do business with them, for reasons that were riduculous, and now we might have to have our customer return the car back to us that he bought. I have been in the business for 24 years, and this one of the most frustrating experiences I had trying to do business with another company. I will be sending formal complaints to their leadership team, the BBB, and any other agency they work with and tell all my contacts in my 24 years of business not to do business with Exeter Finance. read more

MELISSA has Horrible customer service! Melissa tried to charge a late payment when the car note gets paid before it's even due. Customer service agent barely spoke English, and had the nerve to be upset because I was asking questions. I asked for a manager several times, and she tried to out talk me several times. During the loan approval process they raised the interest rate (which is already astronomically high) multiple times before the deal was finalized and they after that they STILL asked for $2,000 more of a down payment. I would give zero stars if possible. I have paid thru their online portal without missing a payment for 1.5 years. Today I get a call from customer service and speak to a rep telling me that we missed a payment 7 months ago and now have hundreds of dollars in late fees. We have always paid the full balance of what was displayed on the portal. Period. I asked to speak to a manager and got a manager who had a hard time with English just repeat to me that the charges are valid based on their legal contract. I have never once been contacted until today about this. Never been notified by mail or text or email or phone call. The manager and customer service rep were very unfriendly, displayed no empathy or understanding and ignored the fact that I have always logged in and paid each month. This was their error, their portal problem. They wouldn't reduce their late fees by a dime. When I called them during covid to ask for some help during pay/hours reduction last year in April, they told me I would be given 12 days to figure out my covid problems and would need to pay in full. I still paid them their full payment that day on the phone when they denied my request for extension or deferment due to covid. These people are heartless and have no soul. Do not use them. I am updating these review. When i said take your monthly payment divide it 28 days. That way youll have made your monthly payment by then. But you have to make payments every single day. You have to call Exeter and find out what your daily intrest is. Mine was $6.42 a day its down $4.92 a day. I got the car Oct 17 2019. I will have it paid off next year. By making payments everyday. My payment a month is $390.00 ÷ 28 days= $14.00 a day plus the $4.92. So i pay $18.92 a day or more a day. The more you pay a day the more goes to the principles. This company has been nothing but evil! I called and advised them that my son was involved in a terrible accident in October 2021 and that he was in ICU! They took the information down and advised me on how to gain access. So I sent all the information that they requested and still wasn't given access to the account so that I could bring the account current and my son wouldn't lose his car. Unfortunately my son is still in ICU learning how to walk and basically talk again! Yesterday we received a letter from Exeter stating that they repossessed his car and that we had to pay $22,000 to obtain the vehicle by 01/22/22 not to mention we got the letter on 01/21/22. I called and spoke with a supervisor who at first told me we needed approximately $3500 to get the vehicle back I said oh ok well in that case we will make the payment then he told us after I told him the letter said in full he turns around and tells me well you do have to pay the $22,000 in full to gain the vehicle. I told him there was no way we could do that and then I asked for the property in the trunk which is my mothers irreplaceable memorabilia she passed away in August of 2020 and my son was transporting her things from her house to ours and didn't finish so the remaining was in his vehicle that they repossessed. I asked for the location to pick it up from and the supervisor tells me that my son who is in icu not able to walk has to get it or I would have to go get a power of Attorney. Now in the state of Illinois it takes up to 6months to get a Power of Attorney case seen now with COVID it's a year and a half which means I would lose ALL MY MOTHERS IRREPLACEABLE ITEMS FOR GOOD!!!! I explained that to the supervisor he told me well I understand but that's all I can do!!!! This company is All about Money no matter if you advised them of a Hardship or Hospitalization they don't care! Now I wouldn't be mad or upset or feel some type of way if they would allow me to regain the car or at Least give me the items out of the car!!! I have explained to you my son can't come you all have a letter stating he is In the hospital in ICU!!! Yet they still want to make it hard for my son!!! I was promised an extension on my loan payments for two months and I was told I was approved, out of the blue I was told my car was due to be reposessed and I owed two months plus late fees for my car. I woke up to my car being gone, and scheduled a payment of $932 AFTER i sent $1300 for "what is due" in the first place. I was promised over the phone that there would be no additional charges from the towing company for the reposession and that it would take up to 24 hours to process a release, mind you this was on a friday and the towing company isnt open on saturday or sunday. I had to go through Exeter for my first car, with zero credit or cosigner, so I was expecting to get screwed on interest regardless, but they're complete garbage. When I bought my second car, I figured I'd see what kind of updated rate they could offer since I had built some credit by then. Still the same 29% APR offer for somebody who's never missed a payment and had a 650 credit score at the time. I looked at one other bank, and within 10 minutes I was offered 5% APR from a local company, not some corporation who outsources all their employment overseas, making it a customer service nightmare. After trading in the car, we went to the previous dealership to get the gap and any other reimbursement. This company doesn't want to give back any reimbursement at all. They also were trying to rip off the new dealership where we got our new car, into paying more for the payoff balance. The dealership had requested a payoff on July 2nd and not even 10 days late they had increased the interest and wanted that pay off instead of the original pay off request. Please if a car dealership tries to finance your car through Exeter Finance DONT DO IT! I have been back and forth with these people for over 2 weeks now about my payment. Backstory: So, I always make my car payments a month ahead of time. Especially through all this COVID stuff in case anything was to happen. So on July 17th I paid the August payment (which is the 9th of every month). I asked though if the payment could be applied to the principal amount on the car, which I had called a week prior and asked about how to do that and made sure that when I made the payment I wouldn't owe anything. So I call and make the payment and the website updates the next day and says my payment isn't due til September 9th. Cool. I'm relieved. Fast forward to a week and a half ago, I get a bill from them saying my payment is due August 9th HUH?! So I get on the phone and call. The lady I spoke to tried to tell me my payment was sent back (which it wasn't). I tell her I've never received money back. She places me on hold to figure out what's going on. She gets back on the phone and tells me that the person who did my payment initially applied it wrong and had to reverse it to apply it correctly. Okay. Cool! I asked her if my account would update to show that the payment wasn't due til September and she said yes. That September 9th was my next due date. I keep watching my online account and see no progress, so I called AGAIN on 8/7 This time I spoke to a man who was rude in the first place, who then proceeds to tell me that if I use the payment towards the principal it doesn't count towards the monthly payment. WELL AINT THAT SOMETHING CAUSE THE THREE PEOPLE I SPOKE TO BEFORE YOU DIDNT SEEM TO MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT THAT WHEN I SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO MAKE SURE! He sends off a "claim" to try and have the payment done towards the monthly amount. (He never files the claim). At that point I asked to speak to a supervisor which he REFUSED me saying that he already spoke to her. I told him that was fine but I MYSELF wanted to speak to her. He puts me on hold, comes back, tells me she's busy, and asks me to leave my number and she'll call me back. (Which NEVER happens btw) He tells me that the claim was put in and to call Wednesday to see an update because it takes 72 hours and that the payment wouldn't be seen as late. Here we are it's Monday the 10th and guess what MY PAYMENT SAYS PAST DUE. So I called....AGAIN. Spoke to another woman who then told me they were working on it and she could see where I spoke to them. Blah blah blah. She told me to call back THURSDAY for an update because it takes 72 hours to process. Called Thursday and yet again STILL NO UPDATE That lady then told me to call Friday and it should be updated. CALLED YESTERDAY WHICH WAS FRIDAY AND YET AGAIN WHAT DO YOU KNOW, NO UPDATE!!!!! At this point I ask for a supervisor and told them I won't accept a call back I wanted to speak to them NOW! Supervisor gets on the phone and tells me the same shit I've heard 10000 times already. So I'm pissed off cause I've gotten nowhere. The supervisor tells me that they're open today and to call. OH AND TO PUT THE ICING ON THE CAKE THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL BE APPLIED ITS ONLY A REQUEST Oh and I've also got a paper in the mail saying the balance owed will be $634 So, I check my online account today and still no movement. So what do I do? I call.....AGAIN. See my frustration here?! I call and low and behold the guy on the phone tells me to call Monday. WHY AM I CALLING MONDAY WHEN IT WAS FILED THE 11th (Which was actually suppose to be filed the 7th but they never did) SO ITS WAY PASSED 72 HOURS. My state was on lockdown and no job interviews we being held. They counted every single day from March and April during the lockdown and cause me to be 80 day. I called to settle the debt and they stated I would need to pay who balance for a car that I was paying for 2 years and they received a tax write off for the debt. I was initially told that I wasn't allowed to pay more than my monthly amount due then I was told that I wasn't allowed to pay the car off early without penalties. Then I went to post my first payment on the day that it was due I gave them access to my savings account and instead they overdrew my checking account. I paid that fee moved on spoke with an agent she told me to the payment will post out of my checking and to move the money I did and the payment took almost entire week to come out. The day after the payment posted and it was deducted from the account successfully I was hit with another insufficient fund fee and my checking yet again. I spoke with three separate agents including a supervisor who transferred me to a manager whom she said was above her and they told me there was nothing they can do. I then logged in to show the most was real deposits not PPP loans. I work hard for my business and earned every dollar. They then said I had to have a DBA but the kicker is im not doing business as anything but my business name. Also none of this is stated or documented on any website, or links when requesting information and proof of income. I got approved for a high interest which is fine because my credit etc at the time. I applied to refinance with another company they dropped my interest rate by more than half. I called to see if they would lower or match it and they said they can't make any changes didn't even offer to rerun it. A shame that the option is make over 10 thousand or a quick thousand. I decided to get it refinanced for a lower interest rate. I continued to make payments to this company during this process and they didn't even put it towards the loan. $1800 just disappeared. During this process I talked to a lady named Maria, who is supposedly a supervisor here. She was supposed to request a payoff letter that I still have yet to receive over email when she said I would have it in 24 hours by email. I talked to her 4 days ago.
