I would rate a ZERO if I could! I used to have an account with Exeter until like 3-4 years ago. I paid my car off. A friend of mine asked for help until they got paid to make a payment. I made a payment for them. They were told that it was a 1 time payment and they weren't authorized to save nor use my info or card after that payment. They took it upon themselves to save my info from the card, They took money from my account that wasn't authorized and I'm now having a world of trouble getting my money back! I was even called a liar that they didn't take the money! Even though it's shown on my mobile bank app,and I have proof from my bank. I was told 7-10 business days, until I mentioned getting an attorney involved. Then promised 24-48hrs and even after that time frame. Guess what?? Still no money returned. Don't get everything in writing from them. The balance on my account changed multiple times without explanation, and I was not properly notified about the repossession or account status updates. They also altered communications, including changing the wording of my cease and desist letter which is both deceptive and unethical. Credit reporting has also been inaccurate, with one bureau showing a different balance and payment history than another, and remarks marked "resolved" while the dispute is clearly ongoing. (yall really need to document everything. And get ready for a lawsuit. They have a track record and they will not silence us) I've filed complaints with the BBB, CFPB, and state agencies, and I'm not the only one. I reported this immediately and was treated with complete disrespect by a manager named Jennifer Delcourt. Back in May 2025, my wife and I purchased a used car and were financed through Exeter. Then in to the end of August 2025, we traded in that used car and purchased a new vehicle. At the time of purchasing the used car we bought Gap insurance, so when the car was sold I waited for over 45 days for the refund to arrive. After the 45 days, I called Exeter and was told that my refund was mailed on October 31st 2025 and to wait for up to 10 days for delivery. At our residence, my wife and I receive daily emails from the post office letting us know what packages and mail are arriving that day. Finally from the daily email from the post office we noticed that the check was going to be delivered on November 4th. Then on that day no mail arrives, two days later my wife and I then call Exeter and tell them that we have not received the check and we would like a new check sent to us. We were told that they would escalate our issue and have our new check mailed from their Gap insurance department supervisor. On Friday, November 14th I called back to see if the replacement check was mailed. We were then both told that the check was cashed on Wednesday, November 12th!!!!! We were then told that we would not be receiving a new check because one of us had deposited the money into our account already!! This is completely FALSE!! I then told them that the check must have been stolen and that if the check was cashed it needed both of our signatures! We were basically given the complete runaround and now not helping at all with trying to find out who cashed the check and what account it was deposited into!!! We were told that there was nothing that they could do to help us and to just live with it!!!! Exeter cares nothing about you the customer!!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!! It was a 2015 BMW at $27,990, and they wanted $6,000 down and $850 per month with a solid co-signer . These ppl take advantage of you if your credit score is in construction. Horrible company. I got a payoff quote for an auto loan stating that if loan was paid by certain date then there would be no additional interest, yet the amount has been going up daily. To pay off the loan they want you to mail a check in to them, too sketchy for me. So the other options are online and over the phone. On top of all this the customer service over the phone is a joke. Thinking I had a little left to pay I called to get my payoff balance and was told I still owed 18k. They told me they charge a daily interest fee in addition to regular interest. I paid off my car with a Bill Pay check from my bank. Instead of releasing the title to me they sent it to the Bank! It cost me over $100 to get a duplicate title in my name from my DMV. And Exeter will not take responsibility or reimburse me for their mistake. Remember, Bill Pay checks have the account holder information on them. They are not directly from the bank. Unfortunately very unimpressed with this company. We've only had our loan about 4 months. 1 month after getting it, my husband lost his job. We called to see if a deferment was possible and got 2 different answers from multiple people. Finally a supervisor called and said they would honor it because that's what we had been told. She said there is a 10 day grace period on payments. But when I logged into my account today to make a payment there was a late fee even though it's only 7 days past the due date. I spoke to agent Andre Wilson (Angel on earth) and he was able to take off over $500 of fees which helped my situation IMMENSELY!! He was so nice and extremely helpful he said it was bad enough that I had my car taken and that he was there to make the situation as pleasant as possible and trust me he did just that!
