There aren't a whole lot of hotels to choose from in Coquitlam, so if you find yourself in the area, the Executive Plaza is a pretty safe bet. I recently found myself without a place to stay in my former hometown and after a quick search, settled on this hotel because it ticked the boxes: affordable, good location, and looks decent. Just a few issues: Even though I'm sure our room was ready when we arrived (around noon) we were basically told they don't start doing any sort of check in till 1:30. Fine, we went for lunch across the street. I travel several times a month at times, and find that most hotels will just put you in a room. The fan/heat in the room is exceptionally loud and even with earplugs sounds like there is a big rig idling outside the window. And lastly, and thankfully everyone was decent, a maid came to our door, knocked once and immediately opened the door to bring us 2 stir-sticks we didn't even ask for. We both thought this was odd. Some positives: Clean and recently renovated. You can walk to the skytrain. Next door to a pub/nightclub and across the street from White Spot (a Vancouver mainstay for somewhat decent food). I stayed here about 20 years ago on my wedding night as well. I guess we didn't yelp back then. I don't remember having any issues then. Overall, I'd stay at this hotel again if I needed a place to stay for a couple of nights. read more

Came by for a catered event. Parking is plentiful in the adjacent lot. Be sure to register your plate on the clipboard at the front counter. This was super confusing as there were no signs or instructions otherwise. The interior of the hotel is rather dated (looks like 1990s). It can use a refresh for sure, but isn't bad. With that said, there is a nice lounge in the lobby too. The buffet food here is actually quite decent. Meat was tender and they had a good salmon selection. The dessert selection was quite good too, with plenty of cakes. Something for everyone. Overall it was a decent experience. read more

Continuing on my seeing a million hotels, I am now in Vancouver. I think at one point this could have been a very nice hotel, but it could really use a touch up! The main areas are very nice but the rooms are smaller and like I said could use an update. I will give them the showers are nice with good pressure. The beds are comfy but nothing special. While the breakfast buffet is decent, it is simply what some places give away for free. I didnt try the pool, gym or free massage. So I cant really comment on that BUT they might be alright. Taphouse is next door and not a bad place for a snack. Plus there are gas bars, coffee shops, grocery and liquor stores close. Along with Sky train access. The take away from this rant is while it is a hotel, it isnt amazing or terrible! read more

This is a 4 star hotel...supposedly. It was outdated, dirty and gloomy. You have to pay for parking - which is not convenient to get to. The reason I am even writing this review in the first place is because when I stayed here I went to use the shower cap provided and it was USED. There was a dark hair wrapped up inside. Here for a 2 day conference and provided breakfast & lunch. This was my first year and I understand that my organization has this annual conference here each year. The lobby and lounge area behind it were surprisingly nicely set up...you could not tell from the exterior of the building, which is dated. We were in a large double room with a nice interior that hosted approx 70. There is free parking for conference guest and free wifi. Breakfast was a buffet and it was quite substantial though the eggs were a bit on the runny side. The sausages and coffee were great. Lunch was passable and the best thing was the cheesecake. It is a convenient location fairly central to the Lower Mainland with good access to Hwy 1, the Lougheed Hwy and the Skytrain. No reason why we will not be coming back again next year. read more

I came here with my fiancé for a small weekend getaway and when I first saw the outside of the building was thinking to myself "you've got to be kidding me.." The place looks pretty rundown and it is in a weird spot based on the surrounding business nearby. Although, once we stepped foot inside I was impressed. It was completely opposite from the outside. I'd say it had a pretty modern look and feel to it. The front desk person (I can't remember his name) was very polite and patient and got us checked in within 5 mins. We booked the penthouse suite that had two balconies. One overlooked the swimming pool and on the side we could see the market that was in the next parking lot over. There was patio furniture, and two sets of trunks if you needed to put stuff in. It was kind of weird but there was a giant jacuzzi tub in the middle of the room. Sad part is the jets weren't working very well. The bed was clean, no odors or anything, but was very stiff. Other than that the room was comfy. I had to scramble and find a hotel to stay I. After the BC ferries closed due to high winds. I had a long day and the front desk staff (I wish I remembered his name) was absolutely fantastic! I was pretty upset being stranded here and he made my check in easy and gave me a beautiful room with a jacuzzi tub to relax in. After the day I had traveling from Seattle then to the BC ferries he was aGod sent! Thank you for helping me relax and try to enjoy the evening! He truly was wonderful! read more

I have been staying here on average once a month out of convenience for the past year or so. I won't be returning though because this past weekend my vehicle was broken into and the hotel not only didn't acknowledge it but they also didn't apologize or reach out to me and of course they declined to pay my insurance deductible when I contacted them. They didn't provide adequate parking for my stay and as their guest I have a reasonable expectation that my vehicle will be safe just as I have the same expectation my room won't be broken into. Not friendly at all! Told that a plunger would be sent to us when we noticed it was clogged upon checking into our room. We did not cause the back up in the first place. We were thoroughly disappointed with our experience here. My husband and I booked the penthouse room for after our wedding reception.. on the plus side, the views were nice, and we did like the patios (but the cushions were extremely wet as it had rained a few hours before, so we couldn't use the seating at all). My husband was going to use the room to get ready in before heading to our reception. When he arrived (at 3:20 or so) he was told the room wasn't ready, and wouldn't be for another 20-30 minutes. How awful is it, that on such a wonderful day, you have to get ready in the gym bathroom? Terrible. The staff were not accommodating to that fact at all. We had double checked the time for check in to make sure we would have it, too. They knew where he was having to get ready, and all we got was a 'sorry for the inconvenience'. Because that's helpful. I called the hotel and they said that many people had left that day, and they couldn't get to all the cleaning right away. Maybe tell us in advance if we won't have the room at the time you said it would be available? Very disappointing. When we went up to the room, it was quite nice inside. Tidy, updated, nice decor. However there was a transition strip between the different flooring that was completely off the floor. It was sticking straight up, and extremely sharp - I had to consciously look at it every time I walked there or else I would have gashed my foot on it. It was there when we arrived, and obviously had been seen by staff previously in the room... so why was it not fixed? Over all, not worth it for me. My husband will now also always have that lovely memory of getting ready in a gym bathroom to look back on... nice. read more

Looks a lot nicer from the inside. With the on-going construction for the Evergreen Skytrain, it's a bit of a maze but it is possible to turn left on North Road, easy to miss this entrance. Anyways, it's got a decent, big size lobby: it's not high-end but to the left, they recently renovated their restaurant, now that's a spiffy looking. Seems to serve all kinds of cuisine; you know, that's what hotels do ;) Free parking. Free wifi in the lobby. As for tourists, this is the most central hotel for Coquitlam; lots of restaurants (mostly Korean) all walking distance, and a medium-sized Brentwood mall/Safeway also just a block away. Walk another 5 minutes and you'll be at the Millenium Skytrain back to Vancouver. read more

Passable for a 3-star hotel. The interior of the hotel looks a bit better than the outside. The rooms are clean but dated. For example, we have a jacuzzi tub instead of a regular bath tub and it looks like it's from the 80's. The bed is comfortable though. I would only stay here again if we needed to be in Coquitlam. Stayed here to visit family upon arrival I was somewhat put off by the area but the lobby inside was decent. At 8:30 pm there was only 1 staff at the desk and he seemed distracted. Said less than 10 words, gave us key cards that didnt work initially. When we arrived to our room it was not at all as pictured. Carpets seemed worn, one towel was badly stained. We booked this hotel for two main reasons: 1 being the onsite lounge that we were informed at check in was closed and the jacuzzi tub. The jacuzzi tub shot out old hair and skin from the jets so that was a no and also was hard to make work. Finally we gave up and slept the bed was comfortable but at 9am we were woke up to banging. We gave up had breakfast at Dennys let management know at check out about the above and they offered free parking thats it‍Dissapointing. read more

Cockroaches confirmed, from previous reviews. if you see them with the lights on, BEWARE - there's an army of them. I wish I read this before I reserved 3 rooms for 2 nights for our company. Unfortunately since we had a change of plans we only used 2 rooms for 1 night. Since we paid in advance they were unwilling to refund for extra room/ night, offer a partial credit, give a breakfast voucher, act like they were considering or even cared. I guess that is what happens when there are no real quality hotel chains around for miles. Take my advice and drive an extra 20 minutes if you have business in the area. These are not the southern or desert roach ... these are the ones that feast on untidy conditions and multiply exponentially...should your clothes in the closet or drawers come into contact with eggs you will have a real problem on your hands at home. Booked in October for a night proceeding multiple subpoenas in February. While travelling on my check in date, the hotel was unable to reach me to verify a credit card and immediately gave my room away. When I arrived late at night, they had nothing. Four months ago we booked this room. Our company has used this hotel for years - their lack of loyalty will be met with ours. I would not recommend any business traveller have a relationship with this hotel. They operate and overbook like a cheap budget airline, with the same degree of regard for their loyal customers. Room tip: find a room at any other hotel. read more

Looked much nicer online, where they present themselves as a 4 star hotel. Hardly the case. My room smelled of cigarettes. The whole place was dingy. Front desk manager, Ash, was far from welcoming, rude actually. I would have asked to switch rooms but Ash had already grumbled at me on the way in, so I figured I'd skip another scolding about their policy and how HE was treated poorly at some place or other, which was his justification for treating me poorly, claiming "policy" wouldn't allow him to help me. My issue? Requesting that I not be charged for a first night which I couldn't (and hadn't) used as I was delayed in my arrival, and which I called them about the morning of. The place surely hadn't been fully booked on the Sunday I couldn't show, as I hardly saw 10 other guests on my Tuesday/Wednesday stay. And the door key lock was so aggravating. The green light would hesitate slightly in turning on, so if I tried to super fast turn the handle it would lock me out and never turn green. But when it did light after a few second pause, it would illuminate for about a nano-second, effectively locking me out after a focused, frantic attempt to turn the handle at precisely the right second! It was ridiculously frustrating. The maid opened it for me once; clearly she knew the drill as she focused and timed it perfectly! After 2 days of key frustration I told front desk and they sent a guy up to open it for me. Awkward. Lastly the wifi sucked. Best things: 1. the on-site massage therapist who offered free 15 min appointments. I booked additional paid time with her and the convenience was great and she was great. 2. The bed was very comfortable and the in room jacuzzi tub was a nice touch. read more

I haven't stayed at the hotel, I've just used their conference rooms for the industry that I work for in regards to WCB and health and safety seminars. The room itself that we were situated in was a shoe box side room, no personality and very blah. I get that it is a hotel, however, I am sure that they could at least make it moderately attractive as a room. The layout on the 2nd floor for all the shoe box conference rooms was awkward. Stayed at the Executive Plaza Hotel for a hockey tournament, and the booking was flawless and the front desk did a wonderful job accommodating our families late reservation. Parking is conveniently below the hotel, and I did not find it at all confusing on how to register my car- it was explained at reservation time and has signs all over the hotel. Shout out to Fatima at the front desk for so kindly and promptly cancelling our extra night - alas, the Hockey Team did not fare very well. Also, both of our key cards worked flawlessly during the stay- major thumbs from me! read more

An older hotel at the corner of Lougheed Highway and North Road. It's convenient if you are visiting one of the high-tech industrial centers around SFU. Parking is not included unless your company has an agreement with the hotel. Conveniently located near the shopping centers and businesses around eastern/northern part of Burnaby, Coquitlam or New Westminster. Buffet breakfast is about $15CDN and is handy if you are on the run. Since I was here on business, all of the above became important. read more

I booked the pricey Penthouse King suite for a 4 night retreat, only to find it looked absolutely nothing like what it was online. The online photos showed a sophisticated, premium room. What I got was a very outdated room with a broken Jacuzzi, old ripped carpet with nails coming through, discoloured paint on the walls and worn out wood trimmings. All the paint on the baseboards was cracked, the bathroom was extremely out of date with old tiles that have mold on them and old silicone that is starting to rot. On top of that, the toilet would not flush without the handle being held down 3 times for long periods of time. The steel-plated door handles had paint residue and over spray all over them. In the first 30 minutes of my visit, I realized the Jacuzzi was broken. I called the front desk, they sent the bell boy up to insure that "I was pressing the button correctly". After coming to the room and pressing the button multiple times himself, he agreed it wasn't working and said he'd report it to the front desk to have the maintenance staff come up and fix it. By the third day, the front desk had failed to contact me and no one had come to fix it. At this point, I'd had enough and checked out a day early, even though I had pre-paid for the room. Upon checking out, the front desk didn't ask why I was cutting my visit short. Instead, all they made clear to me was that I would not be getting my money back. Knowing that I've prepaid for one of the most expensive and so called premium rooms in the hotel, the expectation would be that the staff would ask why I'm departing early. Very poor customer service. I also had a glass of water sitting on a table for three days which housekeeping failed to pick up. Overall, I'd give this hotel 1 star only because the balcony was nice. Not clean, but nice. I would never stay at this place or recommend it to anyone unless you want to waste your money. read more

I booked a room for 2 a few weeks before a seminar that was to be held in a nearby hotel. I am a recent graduate from the US and booking this room for 2 nights was a bit more expensive than what I was willing to pay to use only for sleeping, but I booked it anyways. My mistake. Unfortunately, because of my passport not arriving on time, I was forced to cancel not only my seminar, but my hotel room as well. While speaking with Ash, the front desk manager, he did not even let me explain why I had to cancel but immediately told me that I was not going to get any type of refund back. Now I totally understand that cancelling 2 weeks before my booking may mean that I will have some sort of cancellation fee. But as a recent grad with a very limited income, losing almost $350 is hard to swallow. I was also told that because I booked through Expedia, I needed to cancel my reservation through them; they would not do it through the hotel. Needless to say, my conversation with Ash was less than pleasant. When I called Expedia, they listened to what had happened with my passport and were very interested in helping me any way they could. The woman who helped me said she would call the hotel to try to explain my situation and see if she could get me some sort of lower cancellation fee. Unfortunately, she was forced to speak with Ash who was again very abrupt and unhelpful. Note to anyone planning on making a reservation with this hotel: DON'T! And if you do, be 1000% sure you will not need to cancel. read more

I booked my stay under a corporate code with my company indicating that I'm there for business stay. When I arrived at my room, my ears were harassed by a constant grumbling sound from the air conditioning unit that was not only persistent but also tedious for someone who is seeking a good night's sleep for work the next day. When you advertise yourself as "executive suite"... the expectation is that your clients are able to have a good sleep as you're catering to the business clientele. We stayed here for a hockey tournament with my husband and 2 kids. There were like 6 hockey teams staying here. I thought the hotel was alright. There are 9 floors and the elevators were kind of slow. I ordered room service for breakfast and it was good, hot, and on time. The beds were comfortable but small. There were 2 doubles but wished they were queens. I thought rooms were clean. Contrary to the reviews, I didn't see any cockroaches THANK GOD!! Do NOT go to the Pint 405 Pub next door--. Talk about horrible service!!! The front desk staff was kind and offered us a late check out without us even asking. There was a White Spot and a Dennys close by and tons of Asian take out food options. Parking was free. The pool is outside and we did not swim since it was December but I saw others out there!! It is right near the train that goes to Vancouver so that was also super convenient when we went to a Canucks game. It was only $120/ night. I would have rather stayed at the Element in Burnaby, but they were already full. Overall- not bad. I probably wouldn't stay there again though. It wasnt a great hockey tournament hotel, but if they set up an unused or empty banquet room for the kids to play knee hockey, it would probably keep them out of the hallways!! Never been treated like an imbecile than by the hotel reservations manager at any hotel I've booked. It started when I brought up their website to book. As I needed to book suite, I thought I'd call to ensure it could accommodate 3 adults. When I agreed to book , I was told it is in US dollars although the place of booking is in Canada . I let my colleges know that we are booked for our conference . I was called later by one of my colleges who said she just saw the same suite on Expedia for about $70 less in Canadian funds. I call the hotel directly and the manager tells me that I booked it through Expedia, not them. He told me that I looked into some scammer website, the number ( which is there booking agent ) is not theirs . I got him to call the #and then he said, yes, this is the hotel, but I never called there, I called Expedia. I asked him to ask the call recording, to listen to my call. He had no interest in that , had his mind made up to dismiss my request . At this point it was not about the money anymore , it was the principle . If you want to be treated with respect, don't stay at this low service establishment , save your money and your dignity ! read more

We recently booked a room by calling the number listed on their website trusting that this is a ethical trustworthy way to book a room. We were charged way more than our colleges going to the same conference. We even questioned why we were charged USD when we are booking in Can from Can and they told us it is a US chain and that is standard. When we followed up with the booking agent they have a firm no cancellation policy and would not budge on matching the rate. Called the hotel directly and was basically told we were scammed! We are booked with them from the number on their web, but they take no responsibility and will not help us. Thoroughly disappointed with this experience! read more

I'm happy for the people that had good experiences here, but ours just was not a 4+ star experience. Pros: John at the front desk and the cleaning lady were both very nice and respectful. Overall the hotel looked decently clean and that they had tried to update it recently. It is a great location! Public transportation within walking distance that takes you both east and west and there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance, including a low-priced grocery store and Tim Hortons (can't go wrong there!). Parking garage (despite extra daily charge) is always a plus, but overall felt like the neighborhood was safe. The water pressure in the shower was perfect. Cons: Unfortunately the rooms are what are prohibiting me from giving a higher score. The beds and pillows were so stiff it was impossible to sleep. The heating/cooling system was so erratic that it was either too hot or freezing cold. The vent in the bathroom didn't work and clearly hadn't for awhile, which meant that some mold was growing on the ceiling (although they clearly kept the rest of the bathroom clean). The electrical wiring in the room made no sense at all - there were 3 light switches that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. TV only had news channels and luckily a PBS station so we could get a few kids shows, but all movies, etc. were blocked so you had to pay for them. There is an $8 charge or so per day for parking. There was an event the first night we stayed with loud music that went until at least midnight. And we could hear this even up to the 6th floor (I think they must have opened windows/doors in the event area because the music was mostly coming from the window side of the room). We didn't even attempt the restaurant (The Wild Fig) because it seemed too expensive and there were better options outside the hotel. In short, I understand why the reviews are all over the place. This hotel is a mixed bag and probably better for actual events than for staying at. Some people also seem to be rating only the Wild Fig and not the hotel... The rooms seem like they are sporadically updated based on customer reviews/comments, instead of a clean sweep update which has lead to various levels of comfort in the rooms. The location is the most redeeming quality about this place, but unfortunately I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. Next time we come back to this area, we will be finding a different hotel. read more

First time, the room wasn't really properly clean and there was an odor coming from the drains. The second time, the room was noisy but the service was stellar. Because I'm vegan and don't eat wheat, and I was attending a high school reunion at this venue, I took the time to set up a meeting with a representative from the hotel's catering staff. A chef was present, and I was told a plated dinner would be provided, consisting of something called a Napoleon, a kind of terrine with layers of marinated tofu and roasted vegetables. However, this was NOT what I was served. Instead, the meal (?!) consisted of a few shreds of bell pepper and mushrooms with beansprouts over white rice. Aside from being uninteresting and inadequate, it was salty. The only detectable seasoning was too much soy sauce. Since I was (unsurprisingly) still hungry, I went to see what I could find at the buffet, but it wasn't much better. The only dish I'd describe as tasty was the roasted potatoes. The rest was, in my opinion (and I've eaten a LOT of catered meals), shockingly bad. Some ingredients were simply low quality (like woody carrots). Nothing could improve them. The rest were poorly prepared (tough zucchini and cauliflower) and poorly seasoned (i.e. virtually tasteless). It didn't seem like garlic or herbs had been employed, and nothing appeared to be local. (Spinach, asparagus, arugula, strawberries, etc. were all available.) On the whole, this experience was both disagreeable and disappointing. If you're knowledgeable and picky, I'd think twice about holding your event at this hotel. While the person I dealt with was pleasant and friendly, she was surprisingly ignorant about food. She didn't know, for instance, that Caesar salad is made with Romaine lettuce--not iceberg--which is what was used. Although I never liked this dish and I haven't eaten fish, eggs or cheese for over twenty years, I DO know what it is. (Parmesan was also added in the kitchen (bound to get soggy) instead of letting diners add their own.) I was offered an apology and promised compensation for their error, but, given other interactions I've had with employees here, I'm not holding my breath. read more
