Look for their flag and sandwich board by the front door and once inside walk down the broad staircase straight ahead. I first learned about this place through a Yelp Event where we had a chance to meet the owners. They had a coffee beverage at the event that smelled amazing, but at night, I was not going to try it. I just had to get back and get one! When we arrived it was a bit late in the morning (like, maybe almost afternoon) and the coffee I wanted was gone. (insert pouty face) However, the staff figured out a way to get me a coffee beverage that was almost the same thing and Wow! I am so glad I came back to try this place! The drink was so tasty. Definitely worth the trip. Smooth and a little sweet. Super easy to down this, but I made myself sip and enjoy it. We both ordered sandwiches and they were also very tasty, well made and good quality ingredients. The little stools they have to sit on aren't very stable, the base is narrow, so if you are a clutz like us, sit in one of the big comfy seat! :D There are plenty of seating options. During our visit, there was a group playing a game at one of the larger tables and a couple seated in one set of those comfy seats, plus a couple of other folks, one working on their computer. So even in the middle of the day, it's busy. This is the kind of spot you will go out of your way to visit. Oh, and there is a free parking garage right on the corner near the building so no worries about finding on street parking. Go do it!

Although the parking lot was busy, there were still plenty of tables available inside. There is a larger dining area in the back, but we stayed in one of the booths in the area where you first walk in. It gives old school diner vibes with the red stools, yellow/tan booths, aluminum accents, and small tile floor. The menu is comprehensive as it offers breakfast and lunch, and both sweet and savory options. My friend and I both ordered the steak and eggs ($16.99 each) but I ordered my steak medium (anticipating for it to be cooked a little heavier than medium), with scrambled eggs and cheese on top, with a grilled English muffin. The food came out after about 10-15 minutes. They did have about 4 options of hot sauces we could choose from including Frank's, Tabasco, Cholula, and Sriracha - but the only right answer is Sriracha followed by Cholula. The steak was tasty and cooked exactly how I wanted it to, with a gentle sear. The home fries were delicious as they were soft, but also had bits of fried onions to enhance the flavor. The English muffin was golden, crispy, and slightly buttery. The eggs were very fluffy and the white cheese was completely melted into them which was great. The service was good, where we got everything in a timely manner, but we didn't feel rushed or overwhelmed with questions regarding our experience.

When I got the bill, I was charged for a large apple juice ($4) and an extra $3 for 1 piece french toast instead of 2piece of regular toast. When I expected my bill to be $13 plus tip, it turned out to be $20 plus tip... obviously I'm not going to say anything, but I probably won't be back here.

Although I hear it has recently changed ownership, the Modern, retains the vibe of days gone by. In fact, it was chosen to be the first diner in the nation to be accepted on the National Register for Historic Places. It practically oozes nostalgia. I sat at the counter and ordered a chorizo special. The menu description is "Portuguese muffin layered with chourico, 2 eggs any style, onions, peppers, and melted cheese. Served with home fries." Chorizo/chourico is a staple in RI, thanks to Portuguese immigrants. It seems a little hard to find in upstate NY, where I currently live. Having lived in RI for over 20 years, it was satisfying both as current sustenance as well as a taste memory. It was also a very generous serving. I took the rest of it in a to-go container because I'm frugal/cheap like that. The atmosphere in the place is great. It wasn't a very busy Monday morning but the patrons ranged from elderly couples, to young families, to regular working Joes, to a hipster looking fella. Something for everybody. It's a…read moregreat little shop on Hope Street, and if you're already spending time in the neighborhood, it's an easy place to recommend. The hardest part of visiting is deciding what to order. They have a huge selection of flavors, and every time we go in I end up standing there longer than I planned because there are so many tempting choices. It's the kind of problem every ice cream shop should have. The ice cream itself is outstanding. It's fresh, creamy, and packed with flavor without feeling overly heavy. Every flavor we've tried has been excellent, and it's easy to see why this place has developed such a loyal following. In my opinion, it's the best ice cream on the East Side. Just be prepared to wait if you're stopping by on a nice evening. The shop is fairly small inside, and it's not uncommon for the line to stretch right out the front door. Thankfully, the staff keeps things moving, and the wait has always been worth it. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the ice cream and the generous portions. Parking can be a little hit or miss since it's mostly street parking, although there are a handful of spaces behind the building. Somehow we've been lucky the last few visits and managed to grab a spot right out front, even when there was a long line. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because the small space and limited parking can make visiting during peak hours a little less convenient. Once you have your ice cream, though, it's hard to complain. If you're looking for fantastic homemade ice cream in Providence, Three Sisters absolutely deserves a visit. Just bring a little patience if you're going on a warm summer evening.
