I've been going to Excel for quite a while for personal training mostly now. I know that if I just go to a gym I won't work out, I needed someone to really "kick my butt"! Great hour long boot camps with instructors that will challenge, encourage, and sometimes frustrate you. The gym is primarily for structured workouts in a class setting. There are treadmills, nautilus and free weights which are sometimes incorporated into the classes but can also be used with memberships. Excel offers kickboxing, yoga, spin classes, and various types of boot camps. Fun, challenging workouts with knowledgeable instructors. Love this place! read more

I've never been a gym junkie.. and I'm very resistant to change. Therefore, when our old gym (Impact) was bought out by O2- we just kept going there. It was easy, I knew what to expect, I could go whenever I wanted (or didn't want) and nobody cared. We paid and then we went - or didn't. However, about 2 years ago, a friend started going to 'boot camp' at this place called Excel Body Fitness (or XBF). She was all about getting in shape at the time and I didn't want to hear it. I was too comfortable to do anything about my weight- even though I needed to. She got some awesome results though- and my very fitness oriented husband also started going to these boot camp classes. To me, they sounded like hell on earth. But- whatever floated their boat, I thought. I continued to make half hearted efforts at O2. Then, our O2 membership ran out- it was time to renew. But, my husband wasn't going and we would have paid for two gyms- yuck. So, I thought- why not. If I don't want to go to classes, I'll just go use the treadmill/elliptical/yoga, whatever. And I signed up for a 30 day Gold Membership deal that was offered through Amazon Local. Well, damn. I don't like moving for fitness and I don't like people telling me what to do and those first days of boot camp just about killed me. But, there was something to this routine- 4 classes a week and the format w/ Carolee Auslander teaching that kept me coming back. For one thing, I felt like I was actually achieving something for each class I lived through. I also felt like this might be a way to actually make a change in my fitness 'life'. And then finally, I felt truly supported. BY my friends and spouse who went to classes, but also by Carolee herself. She gave me modifications for any exercises I couldn't do and provided genuine (and intense) motivation to continue going. I've been going now for about 4 months- and I'm so glad. I recently experienced a loss that kept me from the gym for a few weeks and I appreciated the very caring support I received from all at XBF. In my few weeks of absence, I've realized that the benefits I get from going to XBF far outweigh those old complaints I used to have about going to the gym. And it's certainly provided the structure I needed to really make a difference for myself. I've gained so much strength and it's helped me to change my mindset about exercise. I've also started running- at a much faster pace then ever before- and I actually LIKE it. Oh- and I learned that I kinda like boxing- hitting stuff is fun. I am new to NC and wanted to try some gym. I tried only the first 3 free trails here, Unfortunately I couldn't join this club as its too far from my work place and traffic gets nasty in the evening. Pros: + All the 3 classes I tried are simply amazing. Trainers really helped to push the limits and gave suggestions when I am doing something wrong in positions. + Awesome Front desk staff + No pushing or talking through to take membership + Month - Month Membership with no strings attached Cons: - Place is little worn out - Showers are not so great read more

I describe myself as having gym phobia. I am not one who enjoys being in a large open space with a ton of people that huff/puff/stare when you are using a piece of equipment that want to use. I have been attending Excel Body Fitness since this summer and have never once been disappointed. I love the small gym feel to it. The instructors make a point to know who you are and if you have any sort of injuries (so they can modify exercises for you). They always make class enjoyable! They are more of a class based gym, which I enjoy. They range from kickboxing to muscle to cycle. The classes are small enough to where the instructor can easily correct you if something is being done incorrect. There are all different fitness levels present and everyone is always very supportive of one another (instructors and members). I am a silver member, which means I have the majority of the classes open to me and I can come in and use the equipment at anytime (as long as it is not being used by a class). They are always have some sort of membership special going on (keep your eyes open on Groupon and Living Social) and they do not have any of those hidden fees like other gyms. If you have never been a member, you can sign up for three free classes (no strings attached). Class times range from 5am to 7pm and they have daycare, which a lot of members use. There is always a shower in the locker room (along with a hair dryer) if you need to head to work or other engagements afterwords. I have been recommending Excel to many people that I know. I am so very happy that I found this gym and I actually look forward to working out (for once). read more

Yesterday was my first day of boxing and today was my first day of X-Series - X100 Reps class. Challenging but fun! Highly recommend them to help with your fitness goals! So far I'm loving the classes. read more

Purchased a Groupon for gym classes. I was so surprised walking into this place. I honestly don't know was I was expecting but, this wasn't it. It just feels so welcoming and homey... nothing like what I'm used to. The first class I took was part of their bootcamp program. The instructor (also co-owner) asked if I had any health problems and kept an eye on me during the class so I would not hurt myself. It was crazy to see her watching out for everyone helping to make sure they were doing the exercises properly and not hurting themselves. The class was not for me though, I just don't care for the boot camp style. The next class I tried was Total Body Conditioning with Vanessa. I love her classes! They challenge and consume all of your attention, before you know it, you've had a full work out! She does a MWF series of classes that I love so far. I also took a yoga class. the instructor is great, even though I've done yoga before it was very tough yet, focused on the spiritual purpose of yoga. Gyms seem pretty rare in this area (again compared to FL) and the pricing for when my Groupon runs out worries me but there is definitely value in this small community. read more

I was a gold member for almost two years. This is definitely the best gym I've ever been to...The trainers and people both! :) Love love love their kickboxing classes. Best way to burn calories ever! I am 44 years old, I have never been a gym addict, and I am very resistant to change. I enjoy eating delicious meals, dining out, and I did not have any desire at all to work out. Frankly, I am a personal trainer's worse nightmare. When I joined Excel Body Fitness in early February, I was hoping to lower my blood pressure and lose a little weight. 7 weeks later, I now have so much more energy and I lost about 10 lbs. Best of all, my pressure is WAY down! I want to thank Jessica, Angie, and Carolee from the bottom of my heart for giving me the constant and genuine motivation that keeps me coming back everyday. I've been attending Excel for about 8 months now, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself. Carolee and team make the workouts so fun and innovative that I willingly drive in the bitter cold mornings to see friendly faces. Every day I'm challenged a little more, and because of that I see myself getting stronger in mind and body each week. While every class is incredibly fun, I found a little niche in the kickboxing classes. The first class I attended, I literally thought I was going to die from the intensity, and now I only occassionally feel like I'm going to die. :-) The instructors and other gym-goers are so friendly and welcoming. I did the free trial for this gym, and I did not end up buying a membership. The gym seems to be in an old office building, and it's just a weird setup. The participants in the classes were pretty clique-y, and the couple of instructors that I went to were just not very nice. I ended up joining a different gym. read more

Stopped in because I was in the area and saw they had a great check in offer. Pantea, One of the owners gave me the grand tour and it is a very nice facility. It is nice to see a gym ran by two women, they even have childcare and understand the struggles of working moms. Working with them to also ensure my company gets a corporate discount. Excel Body Fitness is an amazing gym. But what really sets it apart are its instructors - these women are the BEST! They have put together an incredible staff for the variety of classes offered. They're extremely motivational and I legitimately enjoy going to work out with them! Whether your goal is to lose weight or build strong, you will definitely be challenged and see results at XBF. Also, definitely give the kick boxing class a try, it sounds intimidating but it's a great workout and super addicting! This place is clearly more than a gym, it's a community of supportive and encouraging people working out together. You won't regret trying out XBF! read more

This is the first gym membership I actually use. Previously I would sign up at a gym all gung-ho to get in shape, last a month and then continue to be debited monthly until I got the energy to cancel. The classroom experience Carolee provides is one of a kind and amazingly I have stuck with it for over a year and a half. My sister and husband comment on my cute arm muscles since I never had anything except flags waving in the wind. I am not embarrassed to wear sleeveless tops thanks to the workout plans Carolee designs to hit all the muscle groups. If you decide to give it a try, do not be intimidated if you can't keep up, it is still challenging for me, but that is what makes it fun and the results are so worth it. I am stronger, can lift items I couldn't before I found Excel and no longer need to rely on my husband to move something- I can do it myself and that feels pretty dang amazing. read more

This place is more than just a gym it has become my lifestyle! Carolee knows her stuff and will push you to reach your personal fitness goals. The format stays the same (Monday's Cadio, Tuesday's TRX, Wednesday's weight intervals, Thursday's Kickboxing, etc) for 12 weeks periods however the workouts change every week. I have seen results unlike any other gym experience. I highly recommend this gym as a way to improve your health and fitness but also because of the community feel. Not your average gym. If you want to seriously work out, get stronger, consistently be challenged, and meet other fun, motivated people, this is the place. The workouts consistently change so it's not Crossfit or the same class over and over. Even after 2.5 years, I still get a little bit sore most days, showing that I don't work the same muscle groups. read more
