My 60" TV backlight started losing LEDs leaving strips of darkness in the picture. Some Googling later and I found this was a a common problem with my model, but all other aspects of the TV were awesome so I looked to get it repaired. A few YouTube videos later and I realized this repair took some serious expertise so I called around a few places. I came across Terry at Excel Electronics and he was really helpful. He even came by and picked up the big tv the NEXT DAY in the morning and by 4pm it was fixed and he delivered it back to my place and helped me rehang it. Same day service!! And at a totally competitive price. Much less than other quotes I got on the phone. Me sort of knowing what was wrong at a high level, and getting the main part needed ahead of time online did help though. The other large repairer in Burnaby I spoke to (which I won't name) cost a lot more and did a really hard sell (they were nice but a bit pushy on the phone) - so I went with my gut and chose Excel since Terry was very clear about the costs and what was involved. Plus he seems like a very nice and trustworthy guy. And he clearly has the electronics expertise to do delicate jobs quickly without ruining your device. He told me of the risks before starting, but he sure knows what he's doing and made the TV as good as new in a few hours and saved me the trouble of throwing it in the landfill or the cost of buying a new TV. I'm still blown away by the same day service and him reducing the hassle of the repair to a breeze. It really couldn't have been any easier. I highly recommend Excel Electronics - you couldn't ask for better. Good, knowledgeable repairs, honest communication, great price, no hidden charges or surprises, and excellent service. I'm totally going to recommend Terry to everyone I know and also take him up on the second repair at 10% off that he offers as soon as I need that. My 2002 Sony XBR CRT TV had a power on issue with a three blinking light error code. Seems some capacitors were starting to fail. Had similar problem a year ago with a six blinking code issue which was expertly repaired by Terry of Excel Electronics. I called the shop and my call was answered immediately and he asked me to describe the problem and model number of TV. He knew that the problem might not be repairable if the power supply was failing as some parts just not readily available and may need to source used parts on the internet and hope for the best. Fortunately it seems that my TV which has a fantastic picture and built in sound system has been saved from a landfill once again by the expertise of Terry with replacement of a number of new chips and capacitors. One electronic component was not available in the city and he did allot of phone calling and finally located the part in Surrey BC. My problem was handled promptly and professionally and because I was a returning customer who had had a similar problem before cost of the repair was more than reasonable. Can't say enough about Terry's solid electrical knowledge and experience! I had a VERY DIFFICULT job on an expensive and rare high voltage transformer that everyone in the city turned me down for - I have a good working knowledge of electrical myself and so when I was given Terry's number by another reputable Vancouver electrical outlet, I was starting to think this was not going to happen. Terry assessed the repairs needed and current state in 15 minutes (it turned out dead on the money) - he gave me a dependable time for the estimate 24 - 48 hrs (because my transformer was so complex and rare) and he had it ready for pickup within 3 business days. My LCD finally broke down on me with 2 kids out of school and weekend upon me. Was frustrating. Tried to self diagnose based on youtube but that did not help. Called him on a Friday about my issue. He asked me few questions and gave me a quick review of potential issues. Said he could make it to my place to review the unit and give me a free estimate on the spot. He came exactly when he said he was going to and found the propblem. He gave me a price, we agreed and he took it today around noon and had it ready for me in 4 hours. 100% recommend him. This is my second time going to this TV repair shop. I called around to get some idea about cost of repair my dead Samsung Lcd TV. I phoned Terry, he sounded very knowledgable so I did go back there. He mentioned that's common problem with this model. I took TV to his shop while I waited he opened up after 10 min confirmed same thing that he mentioned on phone, all for free. Have almost giving up on my samsung after it stopped turning on but then I saw Terry's good looking website and I decided to give him a call he was courteous and professional right from the start and after getting my model number of my TV was able to pre diagnose the problem as a capacitor issue with these TVs. After dropping my tv off he open it up really quickly and confirm that this was indeed the case from then he told me its going to be about 45 minutes and he's going to fix it right away which is exactly what happened there is very courteous and professional and I would recommend his business over any other one in Vancouver. read more

I always wonder about how real these reviews are, but this one is a real one. I found Terry, and Excel Electronics, through Yelp, and he was highly recommended. Now I understand why. My Samsung Smart TV had a dark zone at the top. When I explained this to Terry, he knew right away that he could fix it and he also told me that it was worth fixing. I'm posting this review a long time after Excel/Terry fixed my grandad's TV because he did such a great job and, as other reviewers have noted, he was a pleasure to deal with. The TV is too big to move so i was worried it would be a hassle but Terry arrived quickly, diagnosed the problem (power supply), and managed to fix it right then and there (with replacement parts he already had) in under an hour. I brought a small device in to get its wires re soldered or welded, whatever the right word is... there was a break in the wires. I found myself in the humble shop of an old school gentleman who keeps the tradition of honest and reliable service alive. He not only redid my wiring in 5 - 10 mins on the spot, but then insisted that because the job was so small, he didn't feel right to charge me for it! My LG TV picture colour and clarity was failing. I showed a video of the TV's picture to the gentleman running the shop. I asked if he had any idea of what is causing the poor picture issue and if it was worth repairing. Without hesitation he identified the issue advising no not worth repairing. I didn't actually get my TV serviced by Excel Electronics. Terry checked my model and warning code - and let me know that he could repair my (8-year old) TV, but advised against it given the cost of parts & service and the risk around sourcing used parts. He was really helpful, provided me with several options - and recommended a path that didn't include him getting paid. Straight shooters are uncommon in the parts & service business. read more

Five stars! My Panasonic plasma tv went black. I thought it would need to be replaced. Excel was very responsive. Came to our home and diagnosed the problem, then only took the "board" from the tv that needed new parts. (No heavy lifting). Returned the next day and reinstalled the refurbished board. Our 42" LG LCD kept shutting off on it's own. I googled the symptoms and it sounded like a capacitor problem.
