I enjoy a cup of coffee in a nice café so with time to kill in Mons, I stopped in here I think the name on the door was different though but the address was this one. Never mind. It had that olden days feel to it, as Belgian cafes go. I know this cos I first came to Belgium in the 1980s and there were cafes like this around.
The place was quite crowded with an older clientele. Most were sipping Jupiler beers and some with wine and even a few eating. I found a quite table close to the bar, exchanged "bon jours" with the lady behind the bar and asked for a coffee. "Oui, monsieur" was the reply, so I sat and a minute or two later I had my coffee.
The café is across the square from the train station that isn't really a train station yet, so don't expect pretty views out of the door/window. The coffee was good (and cheap) and the place was full of locals. That's always a good sign. read more
