Fine dining close to the Mons Grand Place. I had the sole and it was cooked to perfection. Would definitely come back.

I had the menu and started with the carpaccio which was delicious. Next came la brochette de bœuf and it was amazing. I like my steak on the rare side and they prepared it and seasoned exactly as I like it. I find that many times restaurants over cook their beef. Last came the créme brûlée and my wife and I both agree it was the best we've ever had. The prices are on the high side but at L'Effet Boeuf you get what you pay for!

The menu was both in English and French, and our waitress spoke a little bit of English as well. The meal I ordered was an appetizer of lobster raviolis in a shellfish sauce, and my entree was a steak and onion kabob with a 3-cheese sauce. I enjoyed it a lot. My one problem with this place was how wildly overpriced the food was. For my appetizer, I received 3 lobster raviolis and it cost 16 Euros. The steak and onion kabob, while delicious, was almost 30 Euros. Including my meal and my girlfriend's, plus we both had a glass of wine, it came out to 98 Euros for lunch. That is the only bad part about it. If you don't mind forking over some money, this is a very nice place to eat.

If I tell you we drive a combined total of almost two hours for the steaks these guys serve.. And we keep going back for more. I think I've said enough! Let's start with the setting.. It's an old farm totally refurbished, they have a wine cellar, whiskey and gin bar up the attic, half open kitchen and the dining hall is located in sort of a green house (winter garden). As far as you can see around you is a hilly landscape full of fields which adds to the total farm experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they're good with kids (in the summer time there's a bouncy castle, sheep to look at and go-carts for kids) and they get a lot of foreign customers and treat them as well as they can. The wine selection is good, and you can even go and get a bottle in the wine cellar. You always get home made potato chips, ham and bread as appetizers, followed up by some black pudding sausage, meat salad etc. all products from the butchers shop they run.. And you can take all these products with you when you go home. Let's move on to the meat.. It's not the cheapest but it's the best as far as I know. They serve two kinds of meat.. Veal or junior beef (all own bred cattle), I always tend to go for the last one since I prefer red meat and veal tends to be a lot lighter. Your knife will literally slide trough this tasty redness. I'm also very keen on the extra herb "crust" they put on the meat if you ask them.. Delicious!! The desserts are ok and the coffee is always accompanied by fresh apple cake. The only thing I'm not so fond of is the buffet style salad bar, but I'm not a rabbit so no harm done! Good job guys, keep up the good work.

He waited on all the tables while his girlfriend the chef cooked. We never wanted for anything, despite his being the only server. I had the croquettes of chicken and cheese for an appetizer and the grilled lamb for an entree with frites (fries) and a cappuccino to finish it off. We also had a bottle of Syrah with dinner. The food was completely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and the restaurant was very comfortable. My friends had soup for the appetizer and steak and fries. They said their food was also delicious. There are many places in Ath to dine, but if you have only one chance to choose then dine here, it is so completely worth it!

It has a kitchens for preparing the food, a central grill for certain dishes and mini grills that can be placed on your table for others. The cuisine is based around grilled meats, accompanied with a choice of baked potatoes or Frits and salads. The proprietor greeted us (he speaks English and French) and explained the choices for cooking the meals. We chose meals that are cooked at the table with the mini grills. I chose the beef plate which featured three types of beef in 100g portions each. My friend chose mixed grill plate which consisted of beef, lamb, chicken and ostrich. I chose a nice Pino Noir to go with the meal. I was driving so I passed on an after dinner whisky but I could have been quite content with the selection. Through my conversation with the proprietor I discovered that he built all the tables, bar, kitchen and grills himself. He is an avid skier and mountaineer. This is reflected in the decor which is tastefully put together. An interesting fact is that each table has a tag with the name of a historic expedition / explorer. If you aren't familiar with the name of your table, just ask and you will receive an interesting history lesson including some lesser known trivia about the expedition.
