During my time at Exagen, I experienced inconsistent communication from management and often received unclear or changing expectations about my responsibilities. I also felt that concerns were not handled consistently across employees, which created a perception of favoritism. One situation that was particularly difficult involved a report that I had been rude to a coworker by demanding they stop what they were doing and assist me. That description did not reflect what occurred. My intention was to request assistance related to work, not to be disrespectful or demand that anyone abandon their responsibilities. I was not given an opportunity to fully explain my perspective before conclusions were drawn. The experience highlighted the importance of clear communication, objective fact-finding, and allowing all parties to be heard before decisions are made. I value treating colleagues with respect and working collaboratively, so it was frustrating to feel that my actions had been mischaracterized. read more

I wish 0 stars was an option, considering how I was spoken to, I wish I could give negative stars. First I would like to start out by saying I've worked in the medical field for 13 years, so I have come across my fair share of appeals department and medical staff. Mrs.Shannon and her team 100 stars. I felt heard and they assisted me in every way . Their supervisor on the other hand is where I would give the negative stars. I have never been spoke to so poorly. I worry that Ms.Nikki talks to everyone in this unprofessional tone. I fear more comments will be left regarding her distasteful behavior. An email has been send to the CEO John Aballi explaining my experiences but has yet to be answered. Seems like I will have to escalate these concerns. I wish I could give them negative 5 stars! They have sent me multiple bills and I've called them multiple times to tell them I've already paid $45 and my paperwork is on file. Over 14 months later I just received another bill today, that's what prompted me to leave this review. Terrible company, almost scammy, makes me doubt the lab tests that they even ran!! read more

If you use this service be aware that their billing practices are very sketchy. They claim that they will only charge the patient $45 per claim, then they generate a separate account number for EACH test even if done on the same day. Then when you pay them over $500 they shuffle money around and none of the numbers that you paid match what their account shows. Then they insist that "Everyone in the business does this." When I point out that I've had my PCP account number for 21 years they say that "We're a lab." Well so is my doctor's clinic where I have lab work all the time. This is a shell game to get more money than their vaunted claim to limit the patient's responsibility. Keep a record and a receipt of every penny. read more

Horrible! Stay away.. I never saw a company treating customers this way. First of all they forget to pick up my labs from the doctor so I had to re do them Day after day. They apologized and told me they wouldn't charge me for the redraw then they send me a bill for $300 even after I provided them with my insurance company. After an hour on the phone they sent me a new bill for $45 but they wanted me to pay twice I had to have to my doctor a call and stay on the phone for long time they threatened me to take it to collection Then they remove the second bill for the redraw But they were still calling me to pay even after I paid Today I called and she said it was a mistake and she will remove my phone number let's see if I hear from them again read more

I wish more medical companies were as patient centered as Exagen. I received my EOB with a bill of over $1700. Needless to say I freaked out just a little because my doctor told me that at most it would cost me $45. I spoke with a fantastic representative (I wish I could remember her name). She had seen that I already called before they were open for the day, didn't see the pst on the times, and she had my account already pulled up when I called. She explained how it worked and that my doctor was indeed correct about the $45 max patient responsibility. I can not express how wonderful it is for a company to make sure their customers are receiving the benefit of their tests but not having to go broke doing it. Thank you read more

They submitted 4 claims to my insurance totaling over $1950 for blood work. I was told by my doctor that even if insurance didn't cover it would only come to around $85. I took a look at what my insurance was billed for, and there were numerous duplicated tests, and insurance would not cover any of it. It is very clear that this company scams its patients, even more so that it sends to collections so aggressively and doesn't accept insurance. If your doctor suggests getting tested for this stuff, ask what company they use. If they say Exagen, skip the test or ask if they can send your blood somewhere else. read more

Exagen Diagnostics are absolutely vultures! Think Martin Shkreli. My in-network doctor sent my labs to them, and, though they are out-of-network, my insurance agreed to pay as if they were in-network. They paid $1300 of the $1475 bill. I had already met my out-of-pocket, and didn't expect more medical costs, but....nope! The remainder Exagen sent bill after bill, made phone calls, and threats to send me to collections for not paying their full amount charged. They price gouge and fight to get EVERY LAST DOLLAR, OR ELSE. Moral of the story, I will request that my doctor not send my lab work to them. Fucking vultures. Exagen just sent a bill that my insurance was responsible for into collectors in MY name. Exagen hounded me by phone and mail for a YEAR, over a check to for them my insurance supposedly mailed to me, that I never received. Each time, I described the insane runaround that Blue Shield was giving me, and asked - BEGGED - them to deal directly with BS on payment of the bill. The insurance had agreed financial responsibility, I made it clear to Exagen I could not afford to pay with my own money to get them off my back anyway - should be simple for them to pursue Blue Shield for payment, right? Nope. A year of hounding, threats, making me bang my head against calling Blue Shield in fruitless efforts to get thru their red tape, and now they've sent it to collectors, and I have a negative credit report for a bill I wasn't responsible for. Use a different testing company. This one is not special at all. FYI- they accept no insurance whatsoever. My latest email to these baffoons: I have received SIX automated calls from you, and have called you EIGHT times, left EIGHT messages, received ZERO return calls, trying to figure out what billing issue your machines are calling me about. I am very surprised on how Exagen worked with me on the bill. My insurance paid a portion and my bill was still $1500. In the long run, they were there for me and didn't want my to go into a debt and helped me out so much and lowered my bill. I am so thankful, as I already have some other health bills I also have to pay. read more

After being tested for lupus, I received a bill from Exagen and called to find out if they might be able to help. I'm moving soon and going back to school, so I will have additional costs. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to talk to Ashley--a kind, compassionate person who was immediately caring and understanding about my situation. She was completely on my side and didn't hesitate to talk to a manager so my bill could be negotiated to something more manageable. I was happy with the result, and thanks to these wonderful people I am now free of any stress over the bill and my balance is at $0. It totally made my day. They even followed up right after the call with an email receipt that I requested. But it is the empathy that made such an impression on me, even more than the willingness to help me negotiate a reasonable rate for my situation. What a difference it makes in the dynamic of a conversation when someone takes the time to listen to you and believe you. It amazes me how the good intentions of just one or two people can turn around your impression of an entire corporation. Please hire more people like this. My daughter had labs done through her doctor, who is in-network with our insurance, however Exagen is not. We received ONE bill from them four months after the labs were done threatening to send us to collections. They even called my daughter saying they had important lab results when all they were doing was threatening her with the bill, not actually giving her lab results but insisting she pay the bill right then. I paid the bill online and in the feedback section I told them what I thought of their scamming of patients. We continued to receive phone calls even after the payment was made! Just one month later, I received a bill from 10/31/17 for labs I had received personally, well over a year ago. It was a BS bill and they knew it, but harassed me nonetheless. These people are rude and spiteful. I wish I had known the doctor was going to use this awful place, as we would have refused the test which was not necessary anyway. In short, make sure any labs you get are not sent to this POS company!!! read more

Very upset with Exagen because they would not take my insurance, nor when I called them, they said they don't take any insurance or work with anyone in regards to the price. So if you use them by choice or your doctor sends your blood work there, be ready to pay the full price, because having insurance will not help you. This is quite uncommon, because most labs will work with you and your insurance company. After doing a little research, found out they are one of only few labs that conduct a new blood test for lupus. Because of this position in the market, they take full advantage of ignoring insurance companies and going after the consumer. Make sure to ask your doctor, clinic, etc to make sure they do not use this lab. read more
