I stopped in to grab a quick chai latte to go while I was running errands and I wasn't super impressed. They have a great location but when you walk in you almost wonder if they are open. Little decor, messy, and not a super welcoming space. Lots of potential! There was just one employee working (who was very nice) and the line moved slowly. They had a few breads to choose from in the pastry showcase but they were scattered around and didn't look super appealing. It was a pretty good chai latte. Good temperature and flavor. However, I'm not in a rush to return. I would probably only stop in to grab a drink to go, this isn't a coffee shop I would stay and work or grab a coffee with someone. read more

This is a member of the EVP coffee shop family. Eastside shop is hipster. Speedway shop is a little dark, cozy, studious and limited parking. This shop is modernish, more spacious, with big windows and quiet. (At least now, in the mid afternoon). Great spot for an afternoon coffee and to soak up the sun in one of their window seats. What can I say? EVP has amazing coffee that my partner loves, so I pick up whole beans for him from time to time. They've also got a killer Chai latte. This location is, I believe, their most recent. It's near my workplace, so I occasionally take a walk over and grab myself some chai and a baked treat. Today's visit included a big fat peanut butter cookie. Yum. We picked up a few iced coffees for our co-workers, too. Group orders are a regular thing. :) This location has lots of windows, plenty of seating; and of course the great products and service you find at all the EVP locations in town. They've never been packed when I'm in, but they seem to have a steady stream of business. Of all the coffee shops in town, I'm so glad I have an EVP within walking distance. read more

I was so confused. I went there, ordered coffee and a gf scone....I pondered why the gf scones were adjacent to the regular baked items. The barista began to laugh under her breath, throw things, slam the coffee, the cups, the stainless pitchers tossed across the room into the sinks...and did not speak to me. She slammed the coffee down in front of me, telling me I had to clean it up myself. I don't understand if she is this impolite to everyone or only to me. Its EVP, so you know the coffee is going to be great. I've only tried one of their soups, and it was full of undercooked vegetables and it was somehow greasy and watery besides being under seasoned. So I can't really recommend them for lunch based on that. I would give them a 5 stars for coffee, 4 stars for ambiance, and 2 stars for food. The service has always been friendly if somewhat disorganized. It's kind of a peaceful oasis near an open green space, which is nice to escape to on my work break. read more

I'm a big EVP fan generally, and I think the space at this cafe is great. It is a great spot for coffee and for writing work. BUT If you require wifi for any of your work, bring your own hotspot or go elsewhere. The wifi here is hugely unreliable or often does not work at all. Love this place! Everyone that works here is friendly and they chat with you while making your beverage. I like that they have a little coffee bar and you can choose your own blend. They have plenty of comfy seating and a welcoming vibe. Plus, they have their own parking spots which is a big plus. read more

EVP is the best coffee in the world! It is my favorite coffeeshop in Madison (the one on East Washington). They have great, friendly service, and I have become friends with the workers, and the other customers, as it is the perfect place to have conversations. They have free copy of New York Times on the circle table where you can sit and chat. There is a nice outside area too, for smoking and watching traffic go by, and people waiting for bus out there. The art on the walls is freaking awesome and totally my style. Every once in awhile they will have live music there, but mostly its all about the coffee and I appreciate that. They air roast the beans in small batches and serve it within hours there so it is AMAZING! And they use only Arabica beans. Highly highly recommend! I never knew coffee could be so good. I will drink EVP Coffee when it's the only option, but they serve burned coffee. As a policy. I let them know that the coffee I got was burned and was told that they don't spend time on "fancy french presses and pourovers" they just make "a strong cup of coffee." No. I'm not a coffee snob, but there is quite obviously a wrong way to make coffee, and that includes serving it too hot, over-extracting it and letting it sit too long. This isn't the worst coffee you'll ever have, but with Moka right around the corner (a place that actually seems to understand how coffee preparation works), there is no reason to choose EVP. read more
