This review is solely about my experience with the woman on staff who is the piercer. I came in to get a piercing removed. I had called earlier and spoke with a very nice gentleman who told me they would do it, but a fee is charged, as is usual. He didn't know the price off the top of his head, so I figured I'd come in and see what it was. The shop had no prices posted for piercing removal (although I could see listed prices for other piercings). The piercer came out and told me it would cost $25, which is absolutely ridiculous. A high end shop in New York would charge $10-15. When I told her this, her immediate response was that I was paying for her labor. I tried to reason with her on her math for this -- assuming this took 10 min tops -- did she think her labor was worth a rate of $150/hr? She shut down on that and of course, immediately went to the excuse of the owner sets the price, she doesn't get to control this, blah blah blah. It was blatantly obvious to me that she was arbitrarily setting a price to pocket for herself, so I tried to reason with her. Her responses ranged from: "just to go New York then" to "I don't need you to complain to me about the prices" to a lovely "don't be a bitch, have some respect" as I was walking out. She needs to get a grip and an understanding of some basic customer service. Don't let yourself get ripped off here. Also - the jewelry on display all looked to be that of the cheapest quality so I would advise against getting a piercing here either unless you're willing to risk irritation and infection. read more

I went because I had to have my nose ring out for an MRI scan 3 hours prior. All I wanted was for them to put it back in as I was having trouble doing so myself. I've had this piercing for 5 years and have changed it a few times with no issues (from other locations). I have NO idea wtf this woman did, but she used a long thing that looked like a needle in it before chasing it with the ring and its over 24 hours later and my nose is still swollen and sore. There was 0 reason for that. I have never had a nose ring reinserted like that. Honestly wish I read the reviews first. There are so many discussing how horrible the piercer is and someone else apparently had a similar problem with jewelry reinsertion. read more

I came back! On a whim, I decided to get my ears pierced (a double on both ears, and a helix on my left ear). For 3 piercings it was $35. Incredible! I was checked in immediately, and was done with the whole process in less than 15 minutes. The lady who pierced my ears was incredibly kind and took the time to verify just exactly where I wanted the piercing. When I asked her to move the marker dot, she did it until I was satisfied. The process was quick and painless, the best piercing experience I've ever had. Great prices, quick service, and a kind piercer. read more

I've only had great experiences with the tattoo artists here! I've been a couple times and have sent my friends. I got my third ear piercings done here a couple of years ago and they never healed, so I wouldn't reccommend going for piercings. Tattoos are very good, though. read more

Their piercing artist gave me a horrible septum piercing, not only was the process long and painful, but it was crooked. Would not go back

Truly disappointed, and this isn't my first time at Evolutions! My girlfriend made an appointment back in March for a septum piercing in May. We get to the shop, it's relatively empty for a Saturday afternoon, and the gal at the front desk looks at us puzzled. The piercer comes in, takes one look at my girlfriend, and says "No, we don't do septums until June". Mind you, this same piercer scheduled my girlfriend's appointment months prior. You win some, you lose some, but definitely not going back and don't recommend. read more

This is a review of a piercer only, I can't comment on the tattoo artists: I got an industrial piercing here and it was done incorrectly. I went to a parlor closer to my house to have it looked at and was told by two artists that it needed to be fixed or taken out immediately. I came back to Evolution to have the original piercer (Hispanic dude, don't know his name) help me. He denied that there was a problem and refused to fix it. TLDR; $80 for a piercing I had to take out due to incompetence and bad customer service. read more

Contrary to the tacky green and purple paint scheme, and the rowdy high schoolers that solicit the immediate area, evolutions tattoo keeps itself neat and spotless. I've found myself here several times for piercings and was always accommodated. Through I called beforehand to make sure, it seems like there's always a piercer around, and they do walkins which is always a bonus. They also accept walkins for tattoo which is another plus, but if you don't do your research beforehand, the random artist you get as a walkin may end up being a disaster. Not the biggest fan of this place. Went here for a piercing & ended up feeling faint, one of the people who worked there seemed pretty concerned, while two people who seemed like the owners kept taking to each other in a foreign language (I think Spanish) & staring at me. I felt pretty awkward. Also my piercings were crooked. They got infected and I take good care of my piercings so I'm not sure whether it was the environment or what. Point is, I'd rather make the trip to Waterbury to get a piercing. read more

Got a tattoo here earlier this year of four flags. Printed out a color version and gave the artist my printout a week in advance. Come the day of, artist flips two of the colors of one of the flags (the black and red lines of the German flag). I notice this the day after and try to look into options to fix it. I started getting the bars laser removed so I could fix the tattoo. Two weeks later and the rest of the tattoo is remarkably faded and the coloration isn't solid (people asked if I drew on myself with marker). I was never given a refund and the artist avoided me and blocked my calls from the store. Please, save yourselves the pain and just don't do it. read more

I've got two tattoos there now, and am 100% satisfied with them. A little pricey, but professional, friendly, fun, tattoo artist, good work, did touch up upon request without further cost on the first one after a week when it seemed some ink had lifted. read more

Worst experience ever. I really hate to post negative reviews, but this is so necessary. I went in to get my nose pierced. I figured it was a relatively simply piercing, so I didn't do much research. The lady who did it was the Hispanic lady with the blonde hair. She is the owner. She marked the spot a few times to get the right spot, and then disinfected really well. She kept telling me to relax and close my eyes. The needle went in fine, it was getting the nose ring in that was the problem. It was stuck for whatever reason and she kept twisting it in the most painful ways. I was telling her I think maybe she shouldn't continue. Then she takes out a piece of equipment to help turn the ring, and still it's not working. I was so frustrated at this point and was beginning to feel nauseous. She told me to lay down and relax. After adamantly telling her to take it out, she finally did. I waited at the register for my refund, which she did give me. I highly suggest getting recommendations from friends for where to go. Don't take a chance going here. read more
