Every time I've been to this place it's been such a comfortable experience! The place I went to before messed up my piercing, and this place completely fixed it for me at a reasonable price and everyone I've met who works there is so kind and very efficient and professional. I came in to get a year-old helix piercing changed from a flat-backed stud to a hoop and was told it could be done. The studio where I got it done originally put the stud on very tight. Something was clearly wrong. Instead of stopping, I went through an incredibly painful removal and jewelry change process at Evil By The Needle. I was told constantly by employee they were "sorry this is so uncomfortable," as I was biting back curses and experienced pain much worse than the original piercing. I bled a considerable amount and experienced a lot of discharge that I haven't in months. It is clear now that it has not healed (and was under stress), but that was not the impression given as the employee lightheartedly told me that I could "get away" with a hoop being put on. Original jewelry was given to me uncleaned with blood on it in a bag. I hope I am wrong but I do not trust that this type of piercing will be done properly here in general. In trying to fix it, another studio let me know the way the piercing exited my ear made it so jewelry put too much pressure on it. Serious irritation resulted. I do not blame Evil By The Needle for the mistake of the previous studio, but they should not have moved forward putting in their jewelry, which was also far too large for my ear and the seam where the hoop closed did not meet. It was jagged enough to tear up my ear further. Helix piercings can easily have complications, but my situation was not helped by my experience here. Though it is not infected, I wish I had been told the seriousness of the situation and given advice on how to proceed. I needed to start over and let the area heal. Instead, a needlessly painful situation was furthered... and they let me shop at their studio for new jewelry to put in. I seriously urge anyone getting riskier piercings to look somewhere else for expertise and guidance on their proper handling. If you have concerns get a second opinion! I went in for 3 piercings today. I requested the first available piercer and Jamie was who I was booked with. She did an excellent job! I was nervous but we made easy conversation and she helped me feel so relaxed. I got my second earlobe piercing in each ear and my right helix done. I picked my jewelry at the counter and the receptionist offered some excellent advice in choosing my piercing jewelry as I had a hard time deciding between the many options. Got my naval pierced back in February. It stayed sore and red for months. Once I moved back home for the summer I went to another piecing shop to get it checked out, where I was told the piercing had been placed in the completely wrong spot and therefore would never heal properly. I had to get it removed on the spot that day and am now left with a scar where it was pierced incorrectly. Such an extremely disappointing and awful experience. Would not recommend. read more

We came in asking about piercings and the woman we talked to was being a bit aggressive. We were talking about sizes and the type of jewelry they had in stock and she continued to be passive aggressive. I had mentioned that I clean my tongue piercing each month just to help keep my piercing area cleaned and she said I didn't need to do that. I then mention that the person that pierced my tongue said I should if there is calcium build up. She said no and that's the reason the shop was closed. First, the piercer interrupted me mid sentence when i was trying to explain my healing situation with a nostril piercing I had gotten done somewhere else. The piercer sold me a gold hoop for my nostril that was SUPPOSEDLY 14 karat gold. the piercer was rough with my nose & It immediately was irritated. they didnt use any tools either... i got an irritation bump a few days later, and i didnt want to deal with it getting any bigger. So, i went to the place i originally had it pierced and they told me that the jewelry i had purchased WAS NOT real gold like i had been told. Due to my piercing knowledge, if i had known this, i wouldnt have purchased it. Not only that, but the hoop had a small pinch of room between the two ends because it wasnt a clicker like i had asked for. i didnt see that it wasnt a clicked after she had put it in bc she hid the seam. my skin grew between the ends. so i had to get it REPIERCED. i want my 45 dollars back, but i never received a receipt!! UPDATE: she got my personal number and took it upon herself to text me in an unprofessional manner after i called asking for help ?? UPDATE AGAIN: she called me girl ?? I had a decent experience with Jamie getting my nostril pierced. I was told beforehand that it's not a painful piercing to get, but when I got it done blood gushed across my face. I don't think that was Jamie's fault, but it was very painful. It was a little uncomfortable getting the piercing changed for the first time (I went back for this). She is a bit rough, but it wasn't unbearably painful or whatever. The wait wasn't bad at all either of the times I went and they were fine with my friend and my dad coming back with me. It wasn't expensive at all (like $25 for the piercing and $10 when they changed it for me). Overall, would recommend this shop. No, they aren't touchy feely and super cheerful here but I honestly don't care as long as they're good at what they do. Which they are, frankly. I see a lot of reviews critiquing them for being rude or cold but I don't think that matters so much. If you want to be snuggled while you're getting pierced/tattooed, this place isn't for you. read more

Wrote a facebook review of how the co owner/only person working said she would be right back then didn't come back for about 15 mins so I left. She blew up in response, then made sure to share my facebook profile on her own private page so her friends could harass me. Jamie rio not only lied in her response to my review, but clearly was dishonest while I was in the store waiting as she was not right back and it took her more than five minutes to pierce a nose. Had she just been honest about the wait instead of disappearing then being completely unprofessional and disrespectful on Facebook and yelp I would give the business another chance. *WARNING DO NOT GET CARTILAGE PIERCINGS HERE**** although I've been told my review will be taken down, which is very clear because there are less than 20 reviews from a business that has been open 2 decades. In October I got my very first 3 cartilage piercings in one sitting. Because they were my first I had little knowledge of what to expect. The "healing process" was absolutely awful. I had many sleepless nights until I trained myself to sleep on my back without moving my head a muscle. I put "healing process" in quotations because it turns out they never actually healed because ALL 3 PIERCINGS WERE AT SUCH AN ANGLE THEY SIMPLY COULDNT HEAL!!! I found this out today, after almost a year when I tried to get the studs changed into hoops and was told they need to be taken out and repierced if I want any different earring in it. This business is a scam and should not be allowed to open their doors. Absolutely disgraceful. I hope this review reaches a few people before it's inevitably taken down by the fraudulent worker bees in this establishment. This was my first adventure to a piercing shop! My teenage son wanted his lip pierced. My bff want her ear pierced in two different different spots. And I decided, at 43, to get my nose pierced. The two ladies that were there were very professional as we picked out our accessories. They signed us in and the necessary paperwork was done and it was time to pierce! Everything the girls used was packaged and sterile. The room was super clean and very relaxing. All three of us were in and out in less than 30 minutes. She was amazing! The lady who did my septum piercing was nice, but didn't seem to have time to treat me the way I wanted to be treated. The whole thing felt rushed, and when she did my piercing in the back room, she went through my septum then through my nostril as well making a hole on the OTHER SIDE of my nose. On top of that, when we first walked in, the younger woman at the front counter didn't seem to know what she was talking about in regards to prices. Went in for two small tattoos and the woman who was supposed to do it for me was not only rude, but extremely impatient while discussing potential designs. I believe her name is Kasey. From the second I walked in for my 7 PM appointment (an hour before they close), she was checking the clock and was very clearly irritated based off of the scoffs coming from her mouth. She cared more about her time than customer satisfaction or money, and she was upset because the tattoos would have taken a little longer than 8 PM- which I didn't know upon arrival. I went to Time and Tide for my other two tattoos (they were awesome both times) and was hesitant about trying Evil by the Needle (got a good recommendation from a friend so I thought I'd try it out). I'm so glad I walked out before letting her tattoo me. Do not let anyone rush you through your experience!!! I went in kind of on a whim to get my third lobes done. I got my second lobes done at Genuine 2.5 years ago, but Evil was cheaper ($30 vs $70 for 2 earrings plus lobe piercings- but Genuine includes a saltwater spray in the price) for someone who already knows about aftercare. Jamie, the piercer, is so kind and very friendly. Everything was sterile and professional. She asked me to check that the spots for my piercings were even before she did them. I was pierced laying down, which is different than when I got them done at Genuine. The studs ended up being the same flatbacks I got my second lobes done with, but were $25 a piece instead of the base $15. If I get another piercing before I leave Bloomington, it will be from Jamie because she obviously has a ton of experience and knows her stuff. I'll post a pic. read more

Clean, efficient, reasonably priced. Really liked the jewelry I had placed (Swarovski crystal in titanium). However, make sure you know everything about piercing before you show up . To start, no post care instructions were given except to "read the website". 3 days later, I had to make an emergency stop while on vacation in another city to have the piercing replaced, because the post was too short for my nose. It was literally being pulled into the skin of my nose! As I read more about nasal piercing, I learned that "bone" style that was originally placed is considered the worst for new piercings, because they leave no room for swelling. This shop probably does great work, but be well educated before you come. read more

So you know how you make a plan to get tattoos with a friend and you all decide what you're gonna get and you call ahead to make sure they can get all 3 of you in? Well we did that and ended up with Ryan from Evil By the Needle. He told to get there in "about an hour" at 5:00. We got there about 6:15. He said he needed a few minutes to finish drawing the first one and we waited for about 20 minutes in the waiting room. He took us back, laid it out, completed the tattoo about 8:30. Next up. He takes about 20 minutes in between lays it out does the tattoo finishes up about 9:15. He then says to the person that waited til last because he hadn't finished drawing hers yet that he can't do it tonight. We explain that she's already taken anxiety medication, that we drove in from out of town, that hers was the simplest, that it was her idea for us all to get tattoos in her he first place. He doesn't really reply. Changes the subject. Gets ID from the two he's completed, puts ointment on both completed tattoos and then at 9:40 says he doesn't have time and can't do hers tonight. Asks her to come back another day. He does say he's sorry but then asks what time we arrived. It wouldn't have mattered if we'd been earlier. He wasn't done drawing when we arrived. I am livid. My friend is pissed off. And our group memory is now tainted. What complete crap customer service. She will be getting her tattoo. But no one I know will ever get a recommendation for this place. For the record we also were given no aftercare instructions and though my nephew is only 19 they never verified his age until after the tattoo was complete. Never offered a discount. Never offered to stay late. No accommodation at all. So clearly they have more business than they need. I recommend taking yours elsewhere. read more

Went in to discuss getting a simple script tattoo, had the appointment set up w the lady at the counter, then a tattoo artist came over to talk to me and had a really weirdly abrasive attitude, clearly in a terrible mood, and seemed oddly upset I made an appointment, after talking to him for 5 minutes he seemed like such a total asshole and made me feel so uncomfortable I walked out. Went with my brother to get matching EKG tattoos following our father's sudden cardiac death two weeks ago (although we didn't tell this to our artists).
