My daughter had been wanting to get a tattoo while I was visiting her for the weekend (she didn't want to be alone and wanted mom w her ), she called several places in Bloomington. It was tough getting a same-day appointment or a walk-in during these COVID times. She came across this place which advertised walk-ins welcomed. We came on a Saturday afternoon, artist Brant was working on a client. He offered a 7pm appointment later that day, she would have been his last client. We had another commitment and asked if he had anything for next day. Brant checked his schedule and said although booked all day Sunday, he offered to come 30 minutes before opening and squeeze her in. We came Sunday at 1:30. Not only was Brant accommodating, but had a kind and calm demeanor putting my daughter at ease. He did a fantastic job on her tattoo. (It was a simple signature smiley face that she drew, he then transposed it onto her wrist and quickly tattooed it on.). The establishment itself was very clean and well kept. The walls were lined with numerous examples of previously done tattoos. Overall a very positive experience!

I came in to get a year-old helix piercing changed from a flat-backed stud to a hoop and was told…read moreit could be done. The studio where I got it done originally put the stud on very tight. Something was clearly wrong. Instead of stopping, I went through an incredibly painful removal and jewelry change process at Evil By The Needle. I was told constantly by employee they were "sorry this is so uncomfortable," as I was biting back curses and experienced pain much worse than the original piercing. I bled a considerable amount and experienced a lot of discharge that I haven't in months. It is clear now that it has not healed (and was under stress), but that was not the impression given as the employee lightheartedly told me that I could "get away" with a hoop being put on. Original jewelry was given to me uncleaned with blood on it in a bag. I hope I am wrong but I do not trust that this type of piercing will be done properly here in general. In trying to fix it, another studio let me know the way the piercing exited my ear made it so jewelry put too much pressure on it. Serious irritation resulted. I do not blame Evil By The Needle for the mistake of the previous studio, but they should not have moved forward putting in their jewelry, which was also far too large for my ear and the seam where the hoop closed did not meet. It was jagged enough to tear up my ear further. Helix piercings can easily have complications, but my situation was not helped by my experience here. Though it is not infected, I wish I had been told the seriousness of the situation and given advice on how to proceed. I needed to start over and let the area heal. Instead, a needlessly painful situation was furthered... and they let me shop at their studio for new jewelry to put in. I seriously urge anyone getting riskier piercings to look somewhere else for expertise and guidance on their proper handling. If you have concerns get a second opinion! Mistakes like this can be serious!

I had done some research on helix piercings, trying to find the best business to get my piercing…read moredone and how long recovery would take. I had read review after review of how amazing Amy was and when I went to book with her, I noticed she was booked a month or two out. While it took me about 4 years to get up the nerve to get my helix pierced, I am really glad Amy was my piercer. My sister and I decided to get our left ears pierced at the helix. Because my ears are significantly smaller than hers, I chose an 18K white gold star. She chose a much bigger earring with a beautiful 18k white gold butterfly. She loves the butterfly but has stated that she wished she got a smaller earring initially. She wears glasses and states that sometimes the stem of the glasses hits her earring and causes some discomfort for awhile. And we noticed that when we took our masks off, the ear loops caught on the back of the earring, so just be cautious of that. Amy explained everything thoroughly to us and answered all of my millions of questions. She used an 18 gauge needle and showed us how she sanitized the needle and the earring. Honestly, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. While it did hurt, I can honestly state that I preferred a needle over the piercing guns. To make sure that we were satisfied with the location of the helix piercing, she marked on our ears to show us what it would look like. We were able to look in a mirror and she adjusted it accordingly, as we saw fit. Before piercing our helixes, she used a light behind our helix area to make sure there were no blood vessels along that area. She stated that that can be the difference of bleeding a lot or bleeding very little. She thoroughly cleansed the area and allowed it to air dry completely. I am much more comfortable if I can exhale when someone sticks me; and not only did she state that that's what she does with everyone, she also allowed me to hold the mirror to watch as she stuck me. She shared detailed instructions on how to properly care for our ears and that it will probably take a year to completely heal. We didn't need to twist the earring around; but after a shower, spray the wound care on the front and back of the earring, to remove any residue. The very first day, our ears were a little red and swollen; but by the second day, the swelling had gone down tremendously and it hardly bothered us. 10 days later and our piercings are still doing fabulous!! I 100% recommend Amy!! I was willing to drive from Lexington KY to Louisville KY to get this done. And I am so happy that I drove the distance. One thing I would like to add, parking is behind the building and it isn't really marked very well. But I was able to match the street number to their address. Park and walk around to the front of the building and call the number on the door to let them know you are there. They have masks if you forget to bring your mask and want everyone to wear one.
