Hayward Public Library - Teen reading center with booths and tables - 7/2025

    Hayward Public Library

Great place to study!…read more There are 3 floors but I get my steps in by walking up to the 3rd floor to sit down at one of the tables to get work done. I like this area because it is actually quiet and there are outlets right on the table. The wi fi is easy to access and is not slow. There are available study rooms to reserve. I would not suggest reserving one if you are looking for a quiet space (in case it does get loud in the main area) because the walls are thin and you can hear others speaking in the rooms next to you. I'd say that it is good to reserve for a group study session or if you need a whiteboard with the necessary dry erase markers. The location is really good because it's within walking distance to coffee shops and restaurants in case you need to grab a coffee before starting to study or need to take a break and get something to eat. There is plenty of parking in the parking garage!

After spending some time in downtown, my friend and I wanted to stop by the library to check out the new Zocalo pocket cafe (we're big fans of the San Leandro location). Unfortunately we got there when it was closed, but that gave us a reason to explore the library itself! It's so spacious with 3 levels of books, work rooms, and more. Libraries truly are such a wonderful resources. Along with the books to borrow, Hayward library also has a bookshop, a makers studio, a teen center, a community resource center, a seed library, a library of things, and much much more. There's so many places to sit - whether you're wanting to work with a large group or just need a computer space for yourself. The staff here was super helpful when we asked for directions on where to find things and when we asked about how the makers studio worked. Did you know you can reserve time in their makers studio to use machines like a sewing machine, a cricut, a large document printer, and even a laser cutter? Now you know. Anyways, now I know all the great resources here and I'm excited to come by whenever I want to work from somewhere else for a bit. Big plus that the parking garage is so spacious so you'll never have to struggle with parking while visiting.

The store is generally clean and organized with the customer service being decent. It's one of the few locations still servicing the Bay. Pricing is reasonable plus they have on-going sales and coupons that can help you save on your purchases. There is a huge parking lot with curbside pickup, EV charging, and disabled spaces.

Kohls reminds me of a Mervyns that hadn't quite found it's purpose. I loved going to that store…read morebecause it was cheaper, but they had clear sections and I could find what I wanted. This one was at the edge of a mall and I came in here and found some sweaters for back to school. I eventually returned them because I found something better elsewhere. But, they are not too far from my job so this is an alternative to going all of the way to Alameda. It's fine, cute, kind of newish looking, and they had what I needed. It took way to long to find a dressing room and they only had one. Not the best, but it worked. I'd never try pants on there because I wouldn't want my sock to touch the floor. The biggest surprise was seeing all of the pallets that were stacked up against what used to be the entrance to the mall. I imagine that is to detour those who are so committed to breaking into something that they would need such a barrier. I'm tall so I got a kick at looking over the top and getting a glimpse into what used to be a great mall back in the day. One I didn't go to because... The people working there are quite helpful when you can find them. But all in all, it was fine!

EV Charger Expert - EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger NEMA 14-50 plug-in model to NEMA 14-50 outlet

EV Charger Expert proposed installing a smart plug that would monitor demand, and should demand overtax the existing service, throttle back demand from the car charger. That cost $1550 plus a $600 smart plug. The work was done quickly and it worked for Night One. I'm happy.

Overall, the job was completed successfully, passed inspection, and avoided a costly panel upgrade. But there were also a few areas where the process could have been handled more proactively. What I appreciated: * Technical expertise & cost savings: My service panel is limited (90A), and other contractors immediately suggested an expensive underground service upgrade. Kirill performed load calculation and recommended using an Emporia Pro charger with dynamic load management. That solution allowed me to safely add both the EV charging outlet and the microwave circuit without upgrading the service panel. * Permits & documentation: They provided the required licensing, insurance documentation and handled the city permitting and inspection process. The final inspection passed without issue. * Responsiveness: Communication was generally clear via email regarding quotes, scheduling, and permit updates. Where I believe the process could improve: We encountered a major obstacle when it was discovered that the crawl space was blocked by a concrete foundation wall, preventing wire routing as originally planned. Initially, there wasn't a clear alternative proposed. I ended up suggesting routing the wiring through the ceiling instead. While the team evaluated and successfully implemented that solution, I would have preferred if alternative routing strategies had been proactively identified earlier in the process. I also want to acknowledge Erin's craftsmanship. When we ultimately routed the wiring through the ceiling, he carefully navigated around existing plumbing lines and made precise cuts to minimize disruption. The finish work was clean and well executed. In the end, the installation works well, passed inspection, and achieved the primary goal of adding EV charging without a major panel upgrade. I would recommend them for homeowners with limited electrical capacity, especially if dynamic load management is needed.
