The waitress was super professional and gave us suggestions from the menu items. She suggested the Peaches Punch (rum and positive vibes) and she did not disappoint. Peaches Punch was sweet and citrus. My fam is southern, migrated from North Carolina to Brooklyn, so I am not a stranger to southern food. My mother was a sou cook in a small water front hotel on the intercostal waterway, so I confess I am a chair side critic of collard greens. I do not like collards simmered too sweet. I also like to add vinegar. So we ordered the fried catfish, cornbread, and collard greens. The catfish arrived seasoned and crispy. I added a dash of Texas Petes hot sauce, they seriously offer a variety of hot sauce. Love it. The collard greens were inviting, aromatic, and tender. The smell of the collards reminded me of Sunday dinner after training. Yes, it tasted old school, I greatly appreciated the southern vibe and the great southern hospitality. The main entrées were affordable and the drinks were worth every penny. This is within walking distance from my home. I will definitely return for collard greens. Please make a date to sit out on the sidewalk and order those collards.

Hubs had previously spotted out the only seafood option for me since I'm a pescatarian and it was a done deal. And baby... that catfish was not playing. Cornmeal-crusted, golden, crunchy as hell on the outside and tender inside and hubs had stayed faithful to his fried chicken and I had zero regrets. Pies is cozy and on the smallish side. I wanted to love it so much especially since TikTok critic/MMA fighter Keith Lee visited them in 2023, but my experience was not like his. I want to say that online reviews are almost about accurate. They were out of cold salads and collard greens which was an issue for other customers at times as well. No problem, they were super helpful and offered an alternative but not a good one. I had steamed vegetables that mashed in my mouth like mashed potatoes when I took a bite. I did end up going to another spot for collard greens and potato salad because you can't have soul-food without that. I had the rib dinner with mac n cheese and yams and a tiny piece of complimentary cornbread. The ribs definitely taste amazing but they don't take off the membrane in the back which is slimy and gross. I left that part behind. The yams were sweet and good BUT.....that mac n cheese is NOT soul-food Mac n cheese. Here's the thing I figured out, they use such little cheese but season the noodles very well that you don't truly notice unless you love mac n cheese, which I do, so I noticed it lacked so much cheese but had seasoned noodles. The rib dinner was a 3/5 because ribs were great but sides needed help. I had rice and peas as an additional side and fried wings. The wings were ATROCIOUS! I ate the smallest one and didn't eat the rest. How can you serve such huge feathered wings like that? It was a nightmare. The feathers being on it turned me off. This tells me they don't make their food with care, they move quick to be one and done and I want my food cooked with love and care. They were also frozen wings that were thawed and seasoned, I know the difference. The rice and peas were okay 3/5 as well. Overall the food was not worth the hype. Customer service was beautiful for sure but the food was not it.

There are more savory options for breakfast than sweet. The Mac and cheese used a great cheese blend and was served in its cast iron skillet which kept it warm through the meal. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Loved the mushrooms but found the grits too loose and bland for my preference. I'm glad our waiter suggested substituting in fried shrimp; this gave more texture to the dish. The best substitution was making our "salt and pepper" fries "BBQ". This was a nice change from the standard order and the portion was generous! I would visit again and try their sweet + savory combo of chicken thighs and French toast.

Specifically for brunch. It is my favorite neighborhood gem and has been for years! Each time i come i get the same breakfast. The Jim Cade breakfast. It comes with your choice of bacon or sausage, eggs, cheese grits or potatoes and granola French toast with a few berries on the side. It's still a great breakfast. But the French toast fell off badly. It used to be this thick brioche toast that was crunchy and sweet and was so dang goood! It was my favorite French toast in the city and the main reason i continuously and consistently order the Jim Cade. The French toast this time seemed to be regular white bread which was a bit disappointing. It didn't hold the same crunch that it did prior. I hope they bring back the original bread. The grits are always a 10/10. The bacon is always good as well. The eggs were a little wet for my liking. My boyfriend also hated the sausage. It really did look and taste like it was old. It wasn't juicy at all. Just very dry. Like it was being under a heat lamp all day. He took a small bite and said nope. Smh. The service is give a 3.5 outta 5. Again, it used to be great. It just lost a little bit of its magic to me this time around. The server was very nice whenever she did check on us. Which was probably once. We had to track her down for the check. Someone else brought us our food and drinks. So we barely saw her unless she was running around behind her other tables. I still tipped pretty good. But the service can be a bit better and more attentive to ALL customers. The decor looked a little light this time. Me and my boyfriend came here for our first date and there was this painting on the wall that looked like Kobe Bryant holding a pitch fork. We laughed about that picture for 2 years promising to go back and visit. Once we did, he wasn't there. So that was a bit disappointing lol. Otherwise the vibes were cool. Good r&b music. The drink was strong as ever! Which i loved and so did my boyfriend. All in all 3.5. I'll be back again next year for my annual tradition for brunch. Hopefully it'll be a bit better this time around. I stopped in today to take food for work and I am currently sooo disappointed. I ordered a meatloaf dinner. Here we go... The meatloaf was dried out, definitely stretched with breadcrumbs and completely void of flavor. I asked for gravy all over. I guess they didn't hear me. The macaroni was bland and colorless and the cheese was missing! This mac had all the flavor of a hospital meal that was prepped for a patient on a salt free, seasoning free, flavor free diet. The collard greens tasted frozen maybe??? No specks of meat or flavor of any kind. Mitchell's Soul Food is CASH ONLY and it was nearly empty when I arrived. I can see why. I am unabashedly greedy and also not big on wasting money so I forced it down. Every bite made me sad. The only kinda/sorta "pro" was the low price. Still not worth it. Never again!

Located near Vanderbilt and Atlantic Avenue, this spot delivers that down-home flavor that's hard to find in the city. We ordered the catfish, potato salad, okra and tomatoes, fried chicken, mac & cheese--and let me tell you, every bite hit the spot. The portions were generous, and I was so full I didn't even get a chance to try the peach cobbler that everyone keeps raving about. But you better believe I'm saving room for it next time. The customer service was just as impressive as the food. From the moment we walked in, it felt like home. I had a warm, genuine conversation with the husband, and it honestly felt like chatting with my grandfather back down South. The ambiance matches the vibe--simple, old-school Southern charm that adds to the experience. If you're in Brooklyn and craving soul food that feeds both your stomach and your spirit, don't miss this place. Just bring your appetite--and maybe a little patience for the parking!

It looked more like a pastry stacked with peach slices straight from the can. Nothing about it looked homemade, and it was just as unappetizing as the rest of the meal.

One thing I cannot stand about restaurants or food trucks is having a large menu that you cannot…read moreconsistently deliver. If you have 10, 15, or 20 items on the menu but most of them are unavailable, what's the point? That pretty much describes my experience with Harlem Seafood Soul. I've driven past this food truck many times while operating the M60 and finally decided to stop and give it a try. Looking at the menu online, I was excited. Catfish, whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens, shrimp and grits, and other soul food favorites all sounded amazing. The problem came when I arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. I wanted catfish. Sold out. I wanted whiting. Sold out. I wanted mac and cheese. Sold out. I wanted collard greens. Sold out. At that point, most of the options available were shrimp dishes. For a place called Harlem Seafood Soul, I expected more of the soul food menu to still be available in the middle of the day. If items are regularly selling out that early, then either more food needs to be prepared or the menu needs to better reflect what's realistically available. Another thing that surprised me is that I've visited other food trucks and carts that have been featured on TV shows, and many of them have an app, online ordering, or some way to place an order ahead of time. Where do you order Harlem Seafood Soul from? If I'm spending over $30 for lunch, I'd like the option to place my order in advance and have it ready when I arrive. To be fair, the wait wasn't long, and my frustration isn't with the people working there. Everything looked good, and I'm still planning to try the shrimp and grits. My issue is with availability. It's hard to get excited about menu items that aren't there when you arrive. I love supporting Black-owned businesses, and I want Harlem Seafood Soul to succeed. That's exactly why I'm leaving this review. The food sounds delicious, but you've got to do better with keeping your signature menu items available. Customers shouldn't have to arrive before lunchtime is over to have a chance at ordering them. This visit felt like a disappointment. Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to give it another try. When a menu gets you excited and then most of what you came for isn't available, it leaves a bad first impression.
