I acknowledge that your local game store is going to pull all sorts of demographics. As a parent, I didn't know what to expect bringing my 5-year-old into the local game shop. But this is definitely going to be a local store that we'll be going to a lot more, even if the prices are a little higher for them to make margins. This is the kind of game store I want in keep in our community! I'll admit I was a little apprehensive to engage with the staff at first due to my inexperience in this kind of envitonmemt, but my kid immediately gravitated toward the Pokemon cards behind the glass counter and we were asked if there was anything we needed help with. We have been looking all over for affordable, genuine cards to little avail. Unfortunately, the cards at this shop were all way outside our range (he's just trying to get started out): $45+ booster boxes or $5+ individual cards. We were obviously not going to be able to make a purchase today (looking for something like one $5 booster pack) but the team member was very helpful taking the time to explain the kids trading card market, suggest other places to look, offer advice on finding affordable cards, and let my kid take his time to pour over the cards behind the counter. On the way out, he generously shared a simple gift that meant so much for my kid. I don't know if he'll read this but thank you so much for making my kid's day - he was over the moon to have some Pokemon cards of his own to share with his friends at school. This is the kind of local game store that is a treasure to have in the community. I definitely will be bringing my kids around in the future to support it some more! Thanks again! read more

After having Sunday brunch nearby I was looking for video game stores to stop at on my way back to Wisconsin. Everything Games was close by and open, so I drove over to check them out. The store is impressive. They have an awesome selection of retro video games, board games, LEGO, miniatures for Warhammer, anime related plush, sports cards, and card games like Magic, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh. There's even a good size gaming area where I saw people playing in a card game tournament. As good as the inventory was, their customer service was even better. A specific video game I wanted was priced $10 more than the current market value, so I brought that to their attention. Rather than getting mad and arguing with me about their prices, the employee pulled up the same website I was using for a reference and confirmed what I was seeing. He then adjusted the price without hesitation. Now that's customer service. I would glad to go out of my way to come back to Everything Games next time I'm in the Chicago area. read more

One of the best spots in the Chicagoland area for classic video games! I had bought a Pac-Man Game Boy cartridge from Everything Games, but after a couple months, it didn't work. I brought it back, and the team went above and beyond trying to fix it. When it turned out it couldn't be repaired, they offered a fair trade for a working Game Boy Advance game instead. They also gave me a great deal on Donkey Kong and even helped me find a case to store my games. They really took the time to make it right, and their customer service was excellent. Really enjoyed shopping here, even though most things are overpriced and the owner is rude, though Cody was a nice dude to deal with. I've purchased quite a lot of older games here over the last few months, often walking away with $200+ of goods. Now I'm being accused of something I'm not even clear about because I've had to return 4 items of 50+ because they did not work correctly. Apparently I'm not "allowed" to shop here now, so proceed with caution. DO NOT EVER go to this guy, especially if you're trying to sell anything. I know you can't expect to get anywhere near the actual value when you sell to a shop like this but this guy is a joke. I've done my research and I know what I could get for my Pokemon collection if I take the time to sell them one by one by myself. But I really don't want to do that so I figured I'd see what this shop would give me. The guy looked over the cards, told me I had an impressive collection, and offered me $900. Wasn't what I was expecting so I said no and left. I then sold the most valuable card I had on Ebay. Messaged the guy at this shop and told him that one card was gone, what would the value of my collection be? He said $800 but he'd have to take a look at them again. Sold the card for $305 on ebay so losing $100 on the full collection isn't bad. So I drove the 20 minutes back to the shop just 2 weeks after I was there the first time. Same exact collection, missing the one card I told him was gone. He spent a half hour looking over the full collection again and then asked if I was sure there was only one card gone. Yes, I'm sure. He offered me only $300 this time. One card gone, and he told me he'd only take $100 off, so he got me to come back in and then he took 600 off! I was obviously not happy at all and he decided to tell me "well maybe you should have taken the $900 last time". I definitely didn't appreciate his comment. When I pushed for how the hell he came down $600 he told me well maybe he messed up last time. I don't believe he ever had any intention of giving me anything close to the $800 he said he would. So we drove 38 minutes to get to this place after calling to see if they had a specific miniature for dungeons and dragons given the response of " I don't know come look" and " we have hundreds" I was intrigued so me and my wife went and to our surprise it was bare bones maybe 30 different miniatures for dungeons and dragons. One of the employees was nice and helpful the other that I saw that I assume answered the phone was at the computer "working " I'm sure. I wouldn't recommend giving a business money if they are unwilling to provide knowledge or effort to you.this store did not get any of my money and likely never will. BUYER BEWARE!!!! If I could give zero olI would! The owner's son, Cody, is a total jerk and does not care at all about the customers. My little 10 year old decided to use his allowance money here instead of Target to buy his pokemon cards in an effort to support small businesses. When he got home, he opened the set of cards and there were only 5 packs though it promised 7 on the box. He was so upset and felt he got scammed, so my husband and I encouraged him to call the store and let the salesperson know. The salesperson gave the phone to Cody, the owners son. My son explained his dismay and the owner said there was nothing he could do about it. He was very short with my son and my son hung up because he was taken off guard. My husband called back and very respectfully asked if there was something he could do to take care of the situation. Cody blamed it on the manufacturer, told us to call them and basically wrote us off. My husband said, in a respectable tone(mind you he was on speaker and my 10 and 11 year old were listening) if this were my business, I'd tell the customer to come in and I'd give them a pack or two to make up for the shortage, because we all know customer satisfaction helps a business thrive. He even went on to use Abt electronics as an example, because they are incredible at handling customers and were once a very small business. The owner told my husband in a very stern and harshl voice that he would have helped us out, but because he's telling him how to run his business, he won't. He slammed down the phone and that was it! My 10 and 11 year old were shocked and they got a HUGE lesson from us on how to run a business successfully and to always put the customer first. My guess is that they are not doing well... I mean, come on, you can't give a kid a pack of pokemon cards to make him feel a little better? Please!!! Don't go here. My son and I had gone 2 times before and it was a good visit and we were helped and were happy with the service. But the 3 time we encountered the owner! We had a psp battery to return it was defective and would not read in the device. The Owner Did not believe me and had to check. He could not take to cover of the other psp so he asked his employee to do it. And it did not work so he had to refund the money he acted like he did not want to part the $20.00 dollars. Stopped in here recently on Friday night with a friend that was looking for Pokémon cards. Owner was very distant and not very helpful. It felt like we were getting rushed to make the purchase and get out. There was a casual MTG tourney going on, but there was still 30 minutes left on the clock. It's an independent game shop that sells board games, trading cards (like Yugioh, Magic, and Pokemon), and other gaming accessories. They also buy cards, but I'm not sure how that works. The owner is really friendly and makes lots of suggestions if you're not sure what you want to buy from the overwhelmingly large selection. I've never seen some of the games they sell, but they do look very fun! I went with a friend on different occasions to browse their selection and left very satisfied. I bought a lovely Dungeons and Dragon map pack and my friend got a Star Trek game. Both are very useful and entertaining for hours. They're very friendly towards gamers and fandom communities (My Little Pony, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc) and have weekly events. For those who want to see a game in action before buying, I suggest checking out Board Game Night (on Wednesdays). Otherwise, they have your standard MTG, Pokemon, YGO card tournaments and game days. And if you're into RPG, they host a Pathfinder Society on Sundays. I noticed they also sell drinks and snacks in case you're there for an extended amount of time playing games. read more
