The customer service texted me with updates. So if you are moving from WI it will be better. I moved from Knox to WI and it was a complete hot mess. When I first called to inquire about getting a pod I asked what is the average work around time for your things to arrive. I booked it out 2 months in advance. The guy was 3-5 days max. Huge FYI they do not work on weekends so it's always business days. So if they say they will pick it up on Friday but don't they will get it on Monday perhaps. So I was like okay will reserve one. Moving day comes and you get an email and it says your pod is going to be delivered today...did the pod come? Absolutely not! So now I'm a day behind on my move already. Call them to pick it up the next day. Oh no problem we can do that. Did I get my pod picked up? Absolutely not! So I don't understand how you can book something two months in advance and they don't have a pod to deliver to you. Now it's picked up by Monday so 3 days of my stuff has already been packed up and sitting at apartment waiting to be picked up. Not sure the actual day they actually finally got it from apartment since had to be at work for my new job in new city. Check the tracking and it says still in Knoxville. Start my new job and still everyday I check my stuff is sitting in Knox. So after 7 business day because on paper it said it could take up to this long which is not what the guy on phone said when he made the sale. Finally someone calls me and tells me what's going on with the shipment sorry for the delay blah de blah. Then 3 days later when the lady said she was going to give me $50 per day back for every day I don't have it magically the pod starts to move quick. I haven't seen the money back in my account for 3 days of delay. It finally comes today and the pod looks worse in condition when I got it. All my stuff looks like it was in a tornado. My tv is broken now and I have scratch marks all over my furniture and dents in my things. This was the worst experience I have ever had and this was a pricer option and it was not at any point stress free. I doubt I will see a dime back for anything. Utterly destroyed my pod experience. Not what I had in mind at all.

UPACK was absolutely the right choice. No hassle of driving a huge truck in bad weather. No paying for gas.

The U-haul website stated the cheaper DIY option wasn't available and steered me to JC on the Move. Being a local gal, I called in hopes of having them deliver containers the next time they were in my area to save them some pennies. (Ironwood is not close to Iron Mountain). Darell, the business owner, gave me a stellar deal for a "full service move" he called it. This included moving items (already packed and moved by me to the front of my home) into a 16ft moving truck and unloading it into the garage at my new house 480 miles away. Same day service! I figured, I deserved to reward myself with a painless move two days after my wedding. Great price! Plenty of space and drivers. Sign me up... Darell explains that I should be prepared to pay cash 1/2 after loading and the other at unloading. I asked about paperwork and was told that the movers would bring it day of as he did not have an electronic copy to email. Day of his staff were on time (no paperwork) and worked at a decent pace. Polite and EXTREMELY CAREFUL. I cannot say enough about these two guys. Everything and everyone made it the 480 miles in good time for unloading. At this point I realized that Darell, business owner, had absolutely no investment in the safety of his staff or procedures to have a successful business. While preparing to back the 16ft Penske into our drive to unload in the garage, his staff sheepishly admit that until today, neither had driven a moving truck and they were nervous about backing it up. (What kind of moving company doesn't train their staff before sending them 480 miles in a rented truck?) They accidentally hit the corner of our house, causing $795 of damage. (Not structural, NBD...accidents happen). I was very kind, as the movers did a wonderful job. They both got big tips for the care the took with each box. Darell, apologized for the mishap and told us he had insurance for the repair and to get a quote. A week later after speaking with 3 companies we sent an invoice noting our down payment of 25% on a $795 bill. Darell said his insurance deductible was $1,000 and that he'd send a check. I explained that I would like the money sooner than the 30 days he requested as the company needed the balance when showing up to do the work. Darell indicated understanding and agreed to send it when he could. We waited, texted, waited, put the repair on our credit card, texted, waited. The check never came. Polite, yooper-girl gets you nowhere, bring in assertive husband... Darell's story gets real honest at this point. Says he doesn't have a checking account. Says he needs to scrape up the money. Telling fibs until my husband reads our text exchange out loud to him over the phone... big sigh, finally, after asking if we could send someone to get cash, Darell figures out how to use the helpful services available at his local Walmart sending us a money order for $750... umm...$45 short, never mind. I'm sure that 45 dollars went to business improvements such as: a) Typing an effin' liability form and contract. b) Buying some orange cones for "practice" c) Training for drivers to be confident and safe Or maybe I should have kept the second half of the money sending him what was left after paying for the repair. It's up to you... maybe business practices have improved. Things were great until they weren't. Thank you.

First, they did arrive early which was fine, however only 2 people showed up when we were told 3 would be there. Ryan (owner) even said during the day that they planned on 3 but he didn't think it was necessary and only brought 2--they ended up being at our house for 7ish hours which threw off our whole day when we were planning for 3 people and for the day to be a lot shorter. We toured the house, they laid down the boxes on our floors, etc. Everything was good. We very clearly stated what was priority for them to load on the truck since we knew not everything was going to fit on the U-Haul we had rented--we just wanted them to get all the heavy things we would not easily be able to lift ourselves later on without their help. We stated these items numerous times then and later on throughout the day when we saw these items were still untouched. They confirmed they would get those items on the truck at some point. Later they stated that they "had" to disassemble my desk, which I stated to them I didn't care about. It was old and honestly I didn't care if it fell apart because I wanted to trash it anyway. They disassembled it, and when I asked, they said there would be no charge. Great, I thought! I had to leave about half-way through the day to leave for the long drive to our new home so that my child could nap in the car. Before I left, I clearly asked Ryan if there would be any additional fees, and he clearly stated no, they would just charge what was quoted. Great, I thought again! Because they had, at that point, already disassembled the desk, used a lot of supplies, and even assisted us with the car trailer. All great stuff. They kept cruising along as I left. When I caught up with my husband later, I found out the unfortunate news that when he did see the truck full, they had still not touched any of the heavy stuff. They left behind nearly every single heavy item we had asked them to pack up. My husband didn't notice or think to keep an eye on them because he was busy with other things around the house and we had already asked them numerous times to take care of them. It was quite frustrating because that meant we had to figure it out ourselves later on. Then came the invoice a few days later. We noticed that we were indeed charged an extra $150 fee for "added items" of which included extra supplies, desk disassembly, and assistance with the car trailer--all of which Ryan assured me was not going to be charged. This was incredibly disappointing. I emailed them to ask why, especially because Ryan very clearly told me ahead of time that they would not charge me this AFTER they had already done these things, and I was given quite a poor response. Ryan flat out asked me for a 5-star review early that morning, and, I'm sorry Ryan, if you had provided a better email response at least attempting to resolve the $150 fee, perhaps you would have gotten something better. If you have gotten this far, then I highly suggest you look elsewhere for your moving needs, otherwise you will be stuck with a company that will find ways to charge you extra fees, only cares about their reviews, and at the end of the day doesn't really care about what you actually need out of your move. Please find someone else that can better suit your needs and truly cares about you.
