I have nothing but great things to say about Concordia Village in Springfield. My grandparents have been through all levels of care from a 2-bedroom, independent apartment through the acute care center. The facilities are immaculate and the staff caring, friendly, and extremely competent. When my grandparents first moved in, my grandfather was just beginning to have his health failing, so they moved into a two bedroom apartment. They were extremely hesitant about moving into a senior care center such as this, having had very bad experiences in the past with you typical stereotype "Nursing Homes" in the 70s and 80s. However, we had really high hopes that conditions have improved. BOY HAVE THEY! Both of my grandparents really enjoyed the social activities, scheduled outings, movies and cultural programs, and even athletic programs such as aerobics and WII bowling. They also rave about the food. The chef and all of the dining staff, as well as the building staff in general are great. They really take an interest in the residents and treat them like family. They also have shuttle services to take the residents to doctors appointments, grocery shopping, and even occasional shows and outings. If I need a live in care center at that age, I will be happy if it is close to as great as Concordia. read more

My parents moved to an independent apartment in 2010. They made wonderful friends, became active in card groups, study groups, and a variety of friend communities. For the first 10 years, they could not have been more satisfied. In 2019 a consistent number of personal and physical setbacks altered their situation and their needs. While upholding the policies of Concordia as far as moving from one level of care to another, they moved into assisted living for a short time. Just a few months into their move to assisted living, Dad's decline accelerated to the point of needing long term care. The staff were compassionate, attentive and supportive. My dad transferred to the short stay REACH unit at Concordia from Memorial Hospital in December 2018. He had been diagnosed at the hospital with terminal, extensive stage lung cancer that had metastasized to his brain and caused mobility problems. The hope was he would be on REACH a short time and be able to go home. However, his cancer spread quickly and he began falling and having worsening cognitive issues. Long story short, Concordia allowed him to stay on REACH rather than boot him to LTC because it would have been much more disruptive snd confusing for him. He had also grown attached to the REACH staff and liked them. Concordia was great for my dad and our family and he stayed there until he passed away. The staff from cooks, CNA's and nurses to various directors treated dad and our family amazingly well. If we had concerns, they were dealt with swiftly and professionally. In a truly rotten situation, I am so glad we found Concordia. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The facilities and staff are all TOP NOTCH. read more

My mother has been on all levels. She has gone from independent to 7/24 care due to their neglect in not monitoring her when she fell. She ended up in the hospital and from there it has been downhill. She continually get UTI, due to not having her depends changed enough. When I visited for the weekthe employees played on the computers while my mother waited 15 minutes for them to come back and get her off the toilet. My mother does not like the fact that the staff is changing frequently. She can not keep up with the staff's names and her caretakes.The physical therapist gave up on her so she is now using a wheelchair. I try to call her but gave up because she doesn't have a phone and if I do get the receptions, they send me to her locked area. There is never anyone to answer and I seldom get a call back. I gave up. The administration has lost several gifts when UPS delivered them. One was Strawberry Chocolate stemmed roses which were sent on her birthday. She didn't get them from her daughter in California. When asked how they were, the found them 3 days later all melted on the reception desk. The other a homemade gift made by my sister. My sister spends hours and paid extra so she would get it. It was lost for several days but found after multiple phone calls. My mother complains when the laundry is done, she never gets her own clothes back. she does not like wearing other people's clothes. The weather in Springfield is not always good, so she spends the majority of her time in her room. She entered a very vibrant woman but since she has been there she has lost her dignity. They talk about her not to her. She is gaining wait as she choose her meals, and in her case she takes the sweets. She has never been that heavy. She spends holiday alone and gets a one hour visit from my brother on Saturday. It is a very sad state of affairs that a woman who worked all of her life (89) in her own business is now being treated without human dignity. read more

As a 7-year resident in Independent Living, I can't say enough good about Concordia Village! It is a spotless facility with a friendly, caring, attentive staff at all levels. What's NOT to love about NOT planning meals/shopping/cooking/cleaning up, NOT cleaning, NOT doing yard work, and NOT shoveling snow?! On the flip side, I love going to the dining room and being served delicious meals from a menu with a wide selection of choices, on tablecloths and china, by a wait staff. I love that I can have guests for meals in the dining room or in a private dining room. I love that my apartment is cleaned twice a month. I love the security of living here. I love looking out at the snow in the courtyard and realize I don't have to shovel it. I love the free nightly movies in the theatre, the indoor pool, the exercise room, and the wide variety of entertainment and games. I love that, except for the patio homes, the buildings of Concordia Village are all connected so I never have to go outside unless I choose to. I love that I have a full kitchen including a dishwasher - it works perfectly for cereal - and the occasional meal that I choose to prepare. I love that there are rooms I can reserve for private parties. I love that there are guest rooms where my guests can stay if there are more than I can accommodate in my apartment's guest room. I love that there is a bus that can take me out for entertainment, to doctors' appointments, or shopping. I love that there areis a Chapel and a Chaplain here. Finally, I love that there are Assisted Living and Care Center facilities here, in case I ever need either or both. My children love that I'm here, too, for all of the above reasons - but especially knowing they don't have to worry about getting a phone call asking where to send me in the event of a health episode. My recommendation: come while you're young enough and healthy enough to enjoy all that this great community has to offer. The staff is caring and loving because Concordia Village is own by Lutheran Senior Services - but you don't have to be Lutheran to love living here - I'm not. read more
