However, a long night of bad tooth pain told a different story. I called North Sound Endodontics immediately when they opened at 8 a.m., explained my immense pain, and they were able to confirm my dentist's referral and have me in the chair by 11:30 am. A mere hour and a half or so later, I was pain free and my root had been successfully canaled. The staff here, from the kind of woman who answered the phone, to the front desk staff, to the assistants, to the endodontist herself, we're all first class. The facility itself was modern and clean. I felt safe in their hands, and heaven forbid I should need another root canal I would not hesitate to go here again.

What a terrible place. Don't go there!…read more Six months ago I needed a root canal. My dentist's usual root canal specialist was having issues so I got referred to North Sound Root Canal. At first things went well: they were courteous and professional. Dr. Simcock introduced himself briefly. The procedure was going fine until they get to the part where they use a bleaching agent. I had root canals before and I don't recall anyone else using bleach. Anyway, the mouth cover must have been poorly locked in place because the bleach starts dripping down into my throat. Just imagine, sitting there with your mouth numb and wide open, barely able to breath, with bleach burning into your throat! I had to make them stop. The doctor reacted like he didn't know what was going on. Anyway, this was almost the end of the procedure, he finished off and I was out of there. Strangely, no one in there was willing to talk about what happened. Fast forward to today. I am sitting in front of the TV eating milk chocolate and the crown on that same tooth comes off. My regular dentist takes a look and finds that the root canal doctor had left a temporary filling instead of a permanent compound. There was no explanation on my chart as to why, nor any indications to my dentist to remove the temporary filling with permanent compound. Over time, the temporary filling degraded and the crown came off. My dentist was able to remove the temporary filling, cleanse the area well and seal it back. But after giving $2,200 to North Sound for the root canal, now I am looking at having to spend thousands of dollars more on a new crown due to the incompetence of Dr. Simcock and North Sound Root Canal Specialist.

Dr. Bittner has been the specialist that , over the last five years, has managed to save a number of my teeth that were ruined by 20 years of hack dentists who I should never have allowed to try to root canal my teeth. My regular dentist, who I love, and who does all my regular dental stuff, doesn't even try to do my Endodontics... I just go to Bittner. The office team here is fantastic, such nice people, and very efficient and caring. The technology they have is unbelievable, and Dr. Bittner himself is so great. His expertise is second to none, and his bedside manner is reassuring friendly and helps so much if you are at all nervous of dental work. He tells the worst jokes... ever... be warned... seriously. Terrible lame jokes, and I love it. He is a nice man and not arrogant. Just for perspective, I have had so much dental work in my life, nasty invasive, painful abscess type stuff that I don't get nervous for any reason. I fall asleep with a drill running in my mouth... but I know some people still are freaked. If you need serious Endodontic work done, or a consult, ask your Dentist to refer you here - you can rest assured they won't screw it up.

Everything about the procedure was explained ahead of time, I was given appropriate medications for pain management and the staff was beyond lovely. Everything wrapped up in just over an hour. I was sent home with a phenomenal care package and steps for check up in 1 year. Dr Conn and his assistant Emily were fabulous and I am in no pain hours after the freezing is out. The proceedure went efficiently until he allowed some disinfectant to migrate past the rubber dam and into my mouth. After he quickly finished the filling, while I was choaking on the chemical, I asked him if I could spit it out. His solution to the problem was to spray water into my mouth and tell me to swallow. His later apology was,"we try not to let that happen". The burning in my stomach lasted until late afternoon and the filling dislodged within 6 months and had to be replaced. I was in Mexico, for 6 months, at the time and was faced with a situation that's the stuff of bad dreams. I had the filling replaced there for $35 USD, thinking you get what you pay for. So the entire debacle cost a mear $1135. Time will tell whose work excel's.

That's right...after thousands of dollars in root canals and one missed appointment they will refuse you not only emergency care, but any service at all. Bellingham is growing and I suppose with a larger population you can act this way and still sustain a business on numbers alone. On a personal in moral level I find it abhorrent and a little draconian to say the least. Not only did they lose my business for my upcoming root canals but after a lifetime of having dental work done in this town I think I'm going to join the ranks of those who travel to Seattle or Mexico. He took the time to explain what the problem was and answered all the questions I had. He also explained how the procedure would be so that I did not have any surprises. During the root canal procedure, he kept checking in with me to make sure I was doing ok and kept telling me that it was ok if I needed a break. He was just delightful! The front staff were also super friendly, they made sure to go over my insurance with me so I knew what I was getting in for and helped me file my claim as well. They don't direct bill but they do help you submit your claim. After the procedure, the doctor again asked me if I had any questions and made sure I was going home feeling comfortable. The next day, the staff called to follow up with me and make sure I was doing ok. They kept saying that if anything comes up, they would be there to help and that I shouldn't hesitate to call them. Really impressed with the way the treat their patients!
