Milford Mall , next to Whitcoulls
Only chose this place as was convenient for me and it was an impulsive decision. Had to pay up front even though I was having Shellac polish. No credit cards - why not?? From the outset the girl displayed a lack of customer care, poor skills, and certainly lacking attention to detail. No offer of turning on the massage chair, I had to point out that the footpath was about to overflow, left me with 2 sets of colour wheels balanced on my knees the whole pedicure, fingers wrapped in foil, no magazines, cut toenails didn't ask what shape, no filing, leg and foot massage just a vague gesture as she gazed around the room and talked to people, no English conversation with me, instructions to move feet in and out of the footpath were hand gestures and one word commands. Manicure was started from the pedicure chair and involved me holding my arm at 45degrees to where she was standing while she scraped off old nail polish. Stated filing the tops of my nails to get stubborn bits off. Scratch scratch. Carelessly left old polish around the edges, and later just painted over those bits. Filed hand nails and I pointed out that one nail was uneven, when she asked me to check them. As feared she then corrected the other side and made the nail too short. When ushered to the chair there was no sign of a nail soaking dish, and she launched straight into the Shellac undercoat. I asked why I wasn't having the same treatment as the lady next to me ie cuticle care and massage etc. was told I hadn't paid for that! I said "yes I have!" Manager came and she and the girl discussed then said sorry, and offered me a $5 voucher in lieu. Refused the voucher as I told her I wouldn't be coming back. Manicure stopped abruptly after last top coat and that was it. Shoddy careless job on completion. There was a lot of cutting corners me thinks. No cuticle oil etc. was glad to leave. Worst experience I've ever had at a Nail Salon - poorly managed, money before client care, all about "next", treated with robotic unfriendliness. Ghastly to think regular customers go back there but has a monopoly in that Mall it seems, and they don't know what good service is.
Glad I have my favourite at the Plaza in Whangaparaoa where service is with a smile, there's also conversation, laughter, cup of jasmine tea, chocolate and magazine. Payment is at the end. Treat me like a valued customer and so they should, as it's a very competitive market.
