Anyone searching for a new chiropractor that's thrown off by Evergreen's old reviews - don't be. The office went through quite a few changes over the last couple years but is now totally improved. The new owner, Dr. Ybaben, is absolutely fantastic. And his wife, who runs the front desk, is incredibly kind and helpful. I came in one morning with horrible neck pain. I chose Evergreen because it was in a great location and they responded to me very quickly. Dr. Ybaben got me in immediately and worked wonders on my back and neck. He was so much more attentive and thorough than any chiropractor I had visited previously. He also went out of the way to help me figure out my new insurance policy. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of care and customer service they provided. The clinic is in a great location on Capitol Hill and has reserved parking spots so it's easy to drive to. If you have any neck or back pain issues, this is the place to go! I plan on never going anywhere else. read more

I walk by this location quite often so when I hurt my back, I gave this office a call. The reception staff is very nice, friendly and professional. The office is neat, tidy and clean. I called to schedule a same day appointment and the office was very accommodating. The Dr. that was present that afternoon, started my consultation in the waiting room which seemed a bit odd to me. He even asked if I "got crazy" and I replied that I was uncomfortable disclosing information in the location that we were in. He then proceeded to take me into his office. I have been receiving chiropractic care for over a decade, so I know a good chiropractor when I see one. The Dr. did not spend much time with me during my new patient exam. The office is not using modern tools and techniques. The cost of an adjustment is $69, which is a bit pricey. At the end of the day, I was just wasn't feeling it. I have found another office that is taking better care of me with better tools/techniques and is cheaper. read more

Horrible. Just straight up terrible. I walked away in tears after my "hard sell" consultation. Basically, I went in because I was in agony due to an old neck injury that was acting up. I've seen a number of chiros in the past, but because I'm new to the area, I needed to find a new guy. I went in to see Dr. Russell, and he did the initial exam, while quizzing me on all of the terms of chiropractic. He was totally frazzled, and felt really frantic. Then he went to adjust my neck, and just _torched_ it really hard. He warned me before hand that it would probably hurt considering the level of pain I was already in, but then he was practically graveling at me afterwards to apologize. You know, if someone's in that much pain, twisting their neck until they see stars isn't the best idea, I think. Then he wanted me to bring my boyfriend in to discuss the findings of my x-rays. He brings us into a room that is covered on all 4 walls with what can only be described as chiropractic propaganda, and showed us an indoctrination video. Next, the x-rays. He made it sound like my neck is absolutely terrible, and that I do anything more to it, I'm going to be in a lot of trouble. He then turns to his light poster that highlights all the organs that are being damaged based on where the core problem was, and since mine was at the atlas, he said every single organ in my body was being damaged. I cut him short right there. Told him to give me the x-rays and I'm going to see a real doctor. I've since seen an osteopath whom I really trust, and another chiropractor (today), and both have told me that it's not anywhere near as bad as Dr. Russell has led me to believe. In fact, they told me, though I should probably have it worked on, it's not so bad that I should be afraid to go about doing normal, or even extreme things (like skiing or roller coasters), which Dr. Russell tried to convince me to avoid. But here's the kicker. After I left his office after the x-ray diagnosis, he called me up that night, again to apologize, but also to tell me about a different method that focuses specifically on the atlas. He told me that he is really interested in this method, and knows someone who practices it, so if I make an appointment, he'd like to be there for the treatment to learn how it's done. I was shocked. I honestly didn't know what to say, I just tried to get him off the phone, and told him I'd think about it. Needless to say, I never saw the guy because I felt so slimy from any association with Dr. Russell. So, basically, my recommendation is to run, don't walk, away from this guy as fast as you can. He's a quack, and anything he says is to perpetuate his business (he'll also tell you that you'll need to see a chiro for the rest of your life). read more

While reading these reviews, be sure to look at the dates. They have a new owner/doctor as of early to mid 2014, and it seems as though most of the negative reviews are before that time. I found Evergreen Chiropractic after about 7 months of pain, tingling and loss of mobility in my hands and wrists. I tried doctors, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy and consulted with a surgeon. My pain was limiting, and I was having trouble working and enjoying some of my favorite activities. A PT I was seeing suggested that it may be a back/neck issue, so I decided to try chiropractic. I'm so glad I came upon this office, because Dr. Cody and his team (Linnea and David) are awesome, fun, and all very good at what they do. Dr. Cody showed me on x-ray why I was experiencing the symptoms I was having. He really took the time to make sure I understood what he was saying. He is a professional and a perfectionist, and most of all, gives a damn about his patients. 3 months later, my pain is very reduced and I'm able to go to work without pain. BEST practice in all of Seattle! I started being treated at Evergreen after a car accident that I was involved in. From the moment I signed up, up until today they have always been extremely attentive of my care and progress. Both the Chiropractic and Massage practice are of the best I have ever experienced. I bought a Tippr coupon for a 1-hour massage and chiropractic evaluation here, and reading these reviews had me a little worried. I told the receptionist I wanted to forego the evaluation and just get a massage. The offices were clean and the massage therapist, Anthony, did a good job. However, my 1-hour massage was more like 45 minutes. I'm not a clock-watcher, but there was one in the room so it was easy to see how much time had passed from start to finish. Dr. Wayne Cissell has passion and does what he preaches! I met with Dr. Wayne Cissell yesterday, and he spoke about how he tours around the city giving workshops on wellness. His passion and dedication to not only helping your back get better, but your whole body feeling of healthly was very apparent in his own actions. He is not a stop and go doctor that just wants your money. He ultimately wants your overall health to get better and chiropractic work can help you fix just that. I am suffering from a herniated L5-S1 impinging on my right sciatic nerve. I have had many ups and downs in my recovery process. Evergreen has always been there and every time I leave, my back gets one step closer to feeling fully recovered. It's been a long process but any of the regression(s) were brought on by something I did. I'd press myself and inflame my injury further. Dr. Kun and his staff have helped me immensely. Dr. Kun is very personable and adept at his craft. He can be gentle or forceful depending on what I've felt and what route he feels might help me best. He's open-minded regarding many types of treatments. He's been honest and straightforward with me regarding my treatment. He's worked with my income levels and I appreciate that very much. The massage therapy one gets at Evergreen is top notch. Matt and Anthony are two very different approaches but yet both work towards a common goal. They both have amazing skills as massage therapists. Only difficulty is getting an appt for a massage. They are so busy, there isn't enough time in the workday for all the people wanting to see them. The front office staff is always very welcoming, fun to chat with, and very knowledgeable and forthright regarding payment options. There is a new doctor at this office. He rocks. I stopped into Evergreen because I live on the hill and walk by it all the time. My neck was finally at a point that I needed to at least get it looked at because it's affecting my work. I stop in and Dr. Cody was just awesome. He was super friendly and inviting. When I went to fill out my paper work, the receptionist actually came out and sat next to me to go over the paperwork (never had that happen). I'll be straight up, I was a little thrown off on Dr. Cody at first because he looks so young, but the dude knows his stuff! I have seen chiropractors before and I have never had one who explained things as well as he did. As far as his treatments, the guy is legit. Super gentle with his adjusting and I don't feel like he's going to rip my head off. I look forward to my adjustments now and I feel better than I have in a very long time. Every single time I have been in, he always seems super happy and so I actually asked him what his secret is. His reply? "It's tough to have a bad day when you are making other people feel better". If I told you nothing else, that should tell you a lot about the type of Doctor he is. He's just a good dude. It's easy to see he has a passion for what he does. I'm glad I stopped in. I've only been to Evergreen for massage, but for that it was fabulous! I've seen both Anthony and Matthew and would recommend either one. I like a fairly deep pressure massage, that's not just about drilling into the knots and pressure points. Both men are intuitive and great mixing at mixing a deeper pressure with more fluid massage technique. I went here the first time using a coupon deal and it was easy to schedule. The front office staff was friendly and there was no hassle or pressure to see the chiropractor. The general office hours are somewhat limited but when I was making my massage appointment they had a little more flexibility for scheduling which was helpful since I'm not usually free to go in during the usual mon-fri work hours. I only gave 4 instead of five stars, because while the masseuses are great (and should each get 5 stars) and the atmosphere quiet, comfortable and pleasant, it's still in a Chiropractic office so doesn't have the full spa type atmosphere that would make it a 5 star massage experience. read more

While the intake process was not what I was accustomed to, I looked past that to the intention of the healthcare providers. I wasn't ready at first for the comprehensive treatment plan offer. However, after some thought I realized the benefits for me of the comprehensive plan and I've been very happy with Dr. Kun and staff. I feel their genuine concern for my health, well-being and improvement as well as for their other patients. I haven't received chiropractic treatments in the "clinic" or "communal" treatment room style before, but I figured that was natural for the "capitol hill" environs and feel I still receive quality care. This place is a junk show. In the last 3 years I've been going here we've had 5 different doctors, 4 admins., and 5 message therapists. How is this supposed to add up to any kind of quality healthcare? The sad thing is, each one Blake, Cody, Linnea, Cara, David, Stephen... started with such excitement and assurance that they were going to stay for the long term. Something is broken here and I bet it has to do with the out of state owners. On the other hand very person you meet here will be kind, personable and knowledgable but rest assured, they won't last a year. Do yourself a favor and find a different chiropractor. I went back last week due to my back acting up again. They have remodeled the place and continue to make improvements. Dr. Russell Kun was there to save the day - no appointment necessary! The best thing about Evergreen isn't the fact I can just walk in without an appointment and not have a problem being seen, or that the doctor can refer me to the on site massage therapist so I don't have to deal with any hassles from my insurance company. I received a gift certificate from a friend for a complimentary massage, and was scheduled with Erin. She was an incredible therapist. I did not tell her I was a massage therapist myself, since that tends to bias the massage and affects the working therapist. She was composed, knowledgeable, and very receptive. I told her exactly what I wanted her to work on, and she was completely adaptable and graceful. Her touch and energy were amazing, she found exactly my problem areas, and I left feeling completely reset. I would recommend her to anyone I know and will definitely be back. This guy is a charlatan. I took my girlfriend to Evergreen chiropractic after a night of severe neck pain. A visiting chiropractic was able to get her out of pain. Dr. Russell asked her to come back in the next day for X-rays and a consult. He also asked me to attend the consult. I observed the consult and during that time Dr. Russell laid on the fear very thick almost convincing my girlfriend she was going to be paralyzed without regular weekly adjustments (at a high cost). She has since seen a regular physician and another chiropractic. Both have said that Dr. Russell's 'diagnosis' is complete bull. My opinion is that Dr. Russell is the kind of charlatan who gives chiropractic a bad name. I know since I have plenty of experience researching chiropractic as a health profession. You're better off throwing your money down a rat hole than visiting this place. At least the rats don't try to hook you on regular wellness visits through fear and intimidation. read more

Remember 'Jacob's Ladder'? I have taken to looking at Dr. Chad Johnson the way Tim Robbin's character looked at Danny Aiello's character, Louis. He was the angel, the saviour, the great light in Jacob's life. I was nearly completely broken when I first started seeing Dr. Chad. I couldn't walk, I couldn't go to the bathroom on my own, I was on the verge of tossing in the towel. Two ruptured discs in my lower back, I felt like I was losing my mind. Dr. Chad saved me, he saved my life. Evergreen Chiropractic is a wonderful place. As soon as you walk through the door, Heather's smiling face is always there to greet you. I have been going to evergreen Chiropractic for 17 years ,, i have been through a few new owners and practitioners over the years some good and some not so good , now there is a new owner And i am very happy with the new owner, 9 months ago my back went out and caused 4 rids to dislocate because of the muscle spasms i was having ,it was one of the most painful things i have been through in my life as a result i was in the emergency room for 6 hours - i pulled the muscle and tendons in my right hip along with my Back and Ribs - I was a mess ! My wife and I both had a very good two years being treated by Dr. Russell and his successor Dr. Chad. My wife noticed significant pain reduction after her adjustments, and I noticed changes in my mood, outlook, and energy levels that I attribute to our work. The staff is very friendly and the doctors are willing and able to discuss patient progress (though usually only when I initiated it--there was not a regularly scheduled "how are things going" talk). They were willing to take new x-rays throughout my treatment, and I found it very helpful to track my progress. I would have doubted his initial diagnosis, as I do not suffer from much neck or back pain, but to see how straight (not curved) my neck was, and how poorly aligned my skull was to my top vertebrae--it did look serious. And I have seen improvement throughout treatment. People often want quick fixes, but the things we do to our bodies (my horrible slouch as I type this, for instance...) can take time to resolve, and regular maintenance. Don't blame the doctor if you need healing. That said, it is wise to get a second opinion on the diagnosis, and to feel how another chiropractor works. I did both and stuck with Evergreen. Dr. Kun is the best. My one complaint is that he relocated to Seattle. Lucky for everyone in that area. I actually drove to his old practice last week but could not bring myself to actually walk in. Perhaps I'll look into vacationing in Seattle! Those of you contemplating chiropractic care in the Seattle area, consider giving Dr. Kun a call. The difference for me after treatment was being able to move without pain. I found that Dr. Russell was not interested in necessarily getting my back better, but in making sure that he had a steady flow of income coming in. After I got in a car accident I would ask him if he thought I was improving and he would avoid the question and say to not worry about it since my insurance was covering it. When I was feeling better he suggested that I keep coming back every week indefinitely. I've heard that once you go to a chiropractor you can't stop going and while I don't believe this he definitely personifies this. I have a new chiropractor and have a completely different experience. read more

Love this Clinic, today was my first day and I cant wait to go tomorrow. I used chiropractors in the past and Dr. Wayne is by far the best!!This isn't your standard "crack and come back" practice. They want you to be fixed and only come back when you need it. The hours are great! They take great care to show you where your spine is at and explain treatment. I've been coming to Evergreen Chiropractic for about three months. I originally learned of the clinic because my long time chiropractor, Chad Johnson, moved there from a clinic in downtown Seattle. I was so impressed by him as a chiropractor that I moved with him! He is highly trained, very professional, and has done a wonderful job of building a chiropractic plan to suit my budget. I am a 14 year hairdresser with two neck injuries under my belt. My job demands an immense amount of daily, physical repetition. I had written Evergreen a positive review years ago, after I was happy with my treatment I received for my second neck injury. Here is a situation that deserves another fantastic review: I had tried to move a cement statue in my yard, which was way beyond my means. I went to bed sore, and woke up with something feeling "off". I tried to lie on the floor to stretch it out, and it was if a switch had flipped. All of a sudden I was crippled with a horrible pinch in my neck/shoulder that brought tears to my eyes. I was frozen, and any movement caused me to cry out. I immediately called Evergreen, and got the machine; having forgotten that Saturdays are not closed, but have no reception, and appointments are booked previously during the week. I could hardly move, couldn't go into work, and couldn't drive myself anywhere. Desperate, I called and left a message on EVERY chiropractor's answering machine on Capitol Hill. I was pleading. Not a single clinic returned my call. Desperate for help, but without any insurance, I got an appointment at the Pin Cushion community acupuncture clinic across the street from Evergreen. As I was walking up, I noticed someone inside of Evergreen. It was Matt, the massage therapist. He unlocked the door, asked if I needed any help. I explained my situation, frantic phone call, etc. He kindly explained how he was the only one working there that day and was so sorry that he had not heard my message. He told me that Dr. Russell wasn't in, but believed that he was with his family somewhere in the neighborhood and offered to call him since he could see how much pain I was in. I could not believe it! Then, Dr. Russell proceeded to LEAVE HIS SON'S LITTLE LEAGUE GAME, to give me help. Not a single other clinic even returned my phone call (not that day or the next work week), and Dr. Russell came in on his day off to give me an emergency adjustment. What kind of doctor does that?! Certainly not one I had ever met before. I do not expect that kind of service, and doctors need to have time off like everyone else to live their lives and spend time with their families, but I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Russell for helping me that day. I read the reviews below me, and they are all about Dr. Russell, who is not the chiropractor there anymore. The new doc is Dr. Chad Johnson and he did really great smooth adjustments, and took as much time with me as I wanted or needed. I've been to many chiropractors and he did some wonderful muscle work in addition to the adjustment and it turns out he has been to massage school as well, so that was a great bonus. My four year old son had a bizarre episode at school with a stiff neck. Children's Hospital determined it was not viral, and gave him Advil. Our pediatrician sort of shrugged it off. Dr. Johnson did a series of adjustments and I completely credit him with fixing the problem (it was called torticolis). read more
