Since being in Anchorage, I've tried one other Indian restaurant but so far, Everest has easily become my favorite. I've now been there twice, and both visits have been consistently excellent. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell. It's amazing. The warm aroma of spices fills the air immediately rich, fragrant, and comforting. Every time I step inside, it makes me even more excited to sit down and eat. So far, I've tried the chicken tikka masala, goat curry, chicken korma, and butter chicken, and while everything has been good, the real stars of the dinners have been the goat curry and the korma. The goat curry is deeply flavorful and beautifully seasoned, with tender meat and a rich, slow-cooked depth that really stands out. It has that hearty, authentic taste that keeps you going back for another bite. The chicken korma has also been exceptional smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced with warm spices. It's comforting without being too heavy and full of flavor without overpowering your palate. This is our new go to spot for Indian food. We've ordered take out multiple times-- chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani. Both are delicious every time. We've also come a couple times for the lunch buffet. It's about $20 a person and they serve fresh naan with the buffet. As an English person, I'm a fan of Indian cuisine. I'd not been to Everest yet, so decided to give it a try, based on others reviews. The space is very nice, the tables remain in the same positions, as when Turnagain BBQ occupied the space. It looks pretty much the same around the bar area etc. The servers are dressed very nicely, and are very pleasant, and greet you nicely. I ordered vegetable biryani, husband got chicken biryani, and we got keema na'an to share. We both got a mango lassi. The portions are excellent, and there's enough left to take home. It tasted very good, with all the aromatics and spices you'd expect in a biryani. The na'an i think, could have been slightly better, as the lamb was in thin slices, and so the na'an was a little soggy, from the grease in the lamb. Maybe minced lamb might be less greasy. It tasted good, but I'd have liked it drier. I'd probably get a different bread next time. The mango lassi was divine, just the right thickness, yogurt mango goodness. Delicious. Worth going just to get a takeout mango lassi. Yum There were lots of different and very well cooked veggies, and beans in my biryani, and I rate that very highly. However when i was eating the portion that i took home, i encountered a really large piece of hard woody material, about an inch long, half an inch wide, maybe a piece of a nut shell? And also a whole cardamom pod. This kind of disappointed me, as I'm now wearing my 3rd temporary crown (it seems like anytime i eat anything on this temporary crown, it breaks and i need another) so it's fortunate i didn't bite the nut shell with this stupid fragile temporary crown. Hence why I'm giving 3 stars. The food, service, and ambience were all 5 star, but I'm disappointed with the na'an, and the unwanted additions in my biryani. read more

0 Star Very bad service - never going back! They gave our order to someone else and then blamed us, saying we had taken the food. The waiter was extremely rude and said he would check the cameras. Eventually, they realized it was their mistake, but even after that, no apology at all. And to make things worse, when they finally gave us our order, it was incomplete! If you make an error, the least you can do is own up to it and be polite. Unfortunately, this place has horrible customer service. read more

Based on a couple visits here, I'm pretty happy with Everest. It's nice inside and everyone is friendly. The chicken tikka masala has great flavor, but the meat was a bit on the rubbery side for me. I'm hoping it was a one off because I see other reviews that the chicken was tender. The cheesy garlic naan is sooo good though. My friend said her garlic shrimp was amazing. Maybe I'll try the shrimp next time. I saw a lot of things on the menu I want to try so I will definitely be back. read more

I am shocked. With so many wonderful reviews, I had high expectations. But after what I experienced, I absolutely will NEVER go back. When i arrived my plan was to order the lunch buffet. Most of the staff was sitting around having their own lunch and the buffet looked pitiful- the food was dried up and hadn't been kept stirred to prevent sticking. I should have listened to my instincts and left. I am very familiar with food from this part of the world and NONE of it tasted right, except one thing on the entire buffet. One was so burnt it literally tasted like plastic. Everything was underseasoned. I tried the various chutney offerings in an attempt to salvage the meal, but they were truly awful. Some items had very little content- they were a watery mess with no flavor. And since they didn't bring me my Naan until AFTER I PAID, about a half hour after I arrived and was on my way out the door, I had no way to absorb the sauces. Why does this place have such high ratings then? Here are my thoughts- 1. Some people in Anchorage literally have no idea what quality Nepalese and Indian food should taste like. 2. They have two chefs. One of them needs to be fired, the other is amazing....? 3. They have a lot of friends writing 5 star reviews for them in support of their business. Ahem. They DEFINITELY don't deserve 5 stars. They are in the same garbage bin as Turkish Delight and Sheba. The people of Anchorage have been eating such mediocre restaurant food for so long, the succulent flavors of the middle east, Greece, North Africa and India are unknown here. More adventures in office lunches! My amazing colleague from India was heating up her lunch today...a delicious smelling curry. Sure made the lunch choice easy today, Everest was the first restaurant out of everyone's mouth as a suggestion. And majority rules when it comes to office lunch. We ended up with three different dishes, and cheese naan and decided to share family style. Goat curry, chicken curry, and butter chicken. First let's talk about the rice, SUPER yummy, beautifully. Fragrant, and a huge portion for us all to share. Each dish, even though two were curries, were unique in their own flavor and really well spiced. So we had a nice variety to choose from. The meat in each one was tender, and cut really nicely. All in all very impressed with the flavors, portions, and quality of the meals! Will absolutely be going in the lunch rotation! read more

A Taste of Home in the Heart of Alaska! I rarely find Indian restaurants that truly satisfy my palate--especially while on the road. We've been traveling through Alaska for the past week, and today I was really craving simple, home-style Indian food. This is my new favorite Indian/Nepalese restaurant in Anchorage. The food here is absolutely delicious. They try to give the space a bit more of an upscale feel with having their servers very well dressed. I personally think it's not necessary and they could definitely make it more of a casual feel. Started with the veggie samosas, and the main course was butter chicken, lamb vindaloo. Chicken momo, garlic naan & raita. I dined with my mom who can't handle spice so I had to keep the food at the lowest level, but everything was still so full of flavor. The also provided me with a side of hot sauce to ramp up my own food. It was amazingly flavorful and actually spicy! I tend to find that some Indian places the meat gets over cooked, and is hard to eat. That's especially unpleasant when I comes to lamb dishes. The lamb vindaloo at Everest was perfectly tender and flavorful even without the sauce. I was very impressed. You get a ton of momo in your order as it's a dinner entree. The momo were very light and flavorful as well. I wish there was a 1/2 order option on those so that I could get them as an appetizer. We devoured our food, but still had some leftover. The only thing I wouldn't probably order again is the raita as it was very runny and more of a soup consistency than a yogurt. We ordered their butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, cheese naan, and a few soft drinks. Kisses to the chef - everything was amazing. Our order was packed with care. Everything arrived hot and intact. I really appreciated how they taped our straws to our soft drinks. It's the small things for me. This restaurant is giving longevity. They're giving deliciousness. The food here is without a doubt, so tasty!!! You can taste and experience the complexity of all the spices melding together! My favorites include the shrimp vindaloo and chicken korma and Peshwari naan. The service has been so attentive making sure your glasses are always full and checking in on anything you may need additionally. The ambiance is fitting for the vibe of food and service. I do wish their parking lot was easier to get in and out of and much bigger. It was a delight to discover this restaurant. It's in the moderate price range but strikes a balance between elegant and casual dining. I saw a lot of Indian/Nepali people dining there, so that alone recommends the quality of the food, if it's appreciated by people who know the cuisine. The food and service are very good. There's a wide range of choices with part of the menu devoted to Nepali dishes, which seem to be a fusion of Asian and Indian flavors. I enjoyed sampling those.The Naan and the rice, which was so light and fluffy, were excellent. I want to go back and try some of the other dishes like the Tika Masala chicken and vegetarian dishes. I enjoyed the chai tea with the cardamon and hot spices that warm you. I like that it wasn't sweetened. The restaurant lacks proper customer handling. The staff showed partial behavior and poor professionalism. When only ten minutes were left before closing, they came to the table and bluntly said that the restaurant was closing and we had to finish our dinner immediately. This place is in the old Turnagain Arm Pit BBQ location, and boy is it an upgrade! I have no idea how they were able to redecorate and reopen this place so soon, but I'm impressed! We came here for lunch and the most impressive thing to me, were the prices. You can get a LAMB lunch special for $15. And since it's a lunch special, it comes with all the fixins that most Indian places nickel and dime you for: naan, rice, sides, etc. Service was good and the servers were dressed up in very fancy attire! My only negatives: the food was not very hot/spicy. I requested it extra hot and...it was still really, really mild. The "medium" hot at a place like So Thai was still about 4X as hot as what I ordered here. The service was great but, it was quite slow. If you have an hour lunch break, I don't think you'd be able to make it in and out in that time. It was nearly an hour before we got our food. I hope that's their just working out the kinks since they are new, though. I will be back! read more

So I ordered the sweet and spicy cauliflower, garlic naan, and jumbo garlic shrimp. The cauliflower was the best I had ever tasted and the naan was just as delicious. The jumbo shrimp dish seemed to be small shrimps rather than jumbo and the lemon garlic sauce was very tasty. It came with rica and was a very healthy serving. So many positives here but they just don't present in a single experience. Lunch only buffet is fast but dinner is not. Service may be efficient if you get the right server but ours never returned: we had to stop other servers for our only delivery of basmati rice and our check. Server recommended only ordering 1/2 the naan we desired, but never returned for the reorder. Food was a mixed bag: we appreciate a drier biryani and the navratan korma sauce was very, very thick. Tikka masala and butter sauces should be very different but were negligibly so. Chicken was tender and both chicken and paneer were ample for the portion of sauce. More server training needed? We tried Everest on the first day of our Anchorage visit and then ended up eating here a couple of times during the entire visit. The food was certainly good enough that we didn't feel like trying any other Indian place in Anchorage. I think we tried almost everything on the menu. My recommendations are: Butter Chicken, Yellow dal and chicken lollipop. The lollipops were the winner! We did try chilli chicken, chicken curry and chicken tikka masala but were not very impressed. Especially the chicken curry has a lot of room for improvement. Tandoori rotis were very good. Mango lassi is alright. Masal chai was very nice. Ambience is really nice and refreshing. Service was very good. Servers were very friendly, we enjoyed our conversations with them and they took care of any special requests we made. OMG this might have been the most delicious Indian/Nepali food I've eaten. I have the Fish Korma which was made from with Fresh Alaskan Salmon. Not only was the fresh salmon fantastic, but the curry flavor was complex and delicious. Not at all spicy for those concerned . My wife thought her Aloo Gobi was some of the best she'd ever eaten. And we weee both blown away by the Vege Samosas--the perfect texture and the spices on the vegetables within. We love Indian food, even having it for our wedding, and this place was truly top notch! read more
