Naan: we ordered the garlic naan and butter naan. The butter naan was the best! Chicken thukpa: amazing soup with noodles. I wish we had ordered 2 of these. One was not enough. Chicken tikka masala: not bad, but not my favorite. I wouldn't order again because I liked everything else a lot better. Kabuli Chana: also v good! Came with rice. Lovely! We dined in for Valentine's Day 2025 dinner with a reservation made online and when we arrived, all the tables had red tablecloths and red roses which we did not expect. So cute! We were greeted the moment we walked into the space and sat down next to a big window allowing us an opportunity to check out the action on Grand Ave. Our server was respectful and made frequent check-in's to our table. We got varying versions of masala, naan and samosa for our appetizer. Everything had great spice and was served perfectly warm. I went to Everest on grand with a friend and I was hoping it'd be better. We got a chicken tikka masala and chicken curry with a chai tea and mango lassi. The tikka masala was creamier then I am used to and the chicken curry was okay. The chai tea and mango lassi were good but I wasn't a fan of the chicken entrees we got. I'll preface this by saying this place is special to me simply because they catered our wedding. So whatever else happens, they will always be number 1 on that dimension. Their food is a bit on the pricey side for your typical South Asian restaurant, but they are definitely not doling out typical food! Their naan is superior to anything I've had for the past 3 years in Philadelphia. The reason - they have an actual tandoor. None of that frozen stuff being thawed out. Also, how about momos that are not deep fried. These folks have them. Another somewhat unique dish - the katahar curry which is made of jackfruit. Whenever I'm in the twin cities, I'll be eating here. I just hope more people appreciate this place. Perhaps a slight lowering of the prices will help with that (in case the restaurant owners ever read Yelp reviews). read more

Just bland and "plain" with a bit more oil in the veggie entrees we ate than what we're used to at other Himalayan eateries. The food being the most important part of the experience, the flavors and execution were there. The curries were tasty and the lamb was cooked perfect. Also got the combo momo - personally didn't care for the sauce it came with but the momos themselves were real good. The naan and rice were fine. Costs were fairly pricey, though prices are up everywhere. Service was fine. The interior is a bit tired appearing and bathroom was not well kept up - so my initial impressions were not good - but the curries and momos were good. Everest on Grand is still a good place (3 stars is not a bad review in my book), but the Twin Cities is blessed with numerous Nepalese/Tibetan/Himalayan spots and I don't think it's the best around. (Gorkha Palace in Northeast Minneapolis is the reigning champ). The restaurant labels all its vegan items which is helpful. I got the veg samosa ($6 for two) and did think these were great and savory. The veg momo ($8) was also excellent with a wonderful, spicy dipping sauce. The potato achaar ($5) is a cold potato appetizer that tasted pretty good, albeit slightly vinegar-y. The okra ($14) is vegan by default and pretty good, though the katahar (jackfruit) ($14) curry didn't wow me. Similarly, the veg thukpa ($14.25) failed to impress, being bland and too thick. The roti ($3.45) was too thick and not made well at all. If you're looking for better Nepalese food in the Twin Cities, Gorkha Palace is my go-to, though Himalayan Cafe on Lake Street is also respectable. Namaste Cafe is hipster-cool with unusual offerings, but pricey. Everest on Grand is the best in St. Paul, but not the best in the area. read more

They can really accommodate any spice level you need - I love heavy spice and their vegetarian dishes did not disappoint. A bit pricy post-pandemic, but worth it to keep this place going. The menu was marked with gluten-free options so I had no trouble ordering within my dietary restrictions (allergies). While I wish that the spice level was a little higher, the medium heat level was good. The only thing that was not exceptional was the chicken, which was a little dry. Our group of four ate at Everest on Grand Saturday evening. Plenty of tables inside. Staff was wearing masks. It was a little chilly by the door but plenty warm deeper inside the restaurant. Amazing, authentic, hot, filling food. Wow what a great place. The wait was about 15-20 minutes an hour before closing on a Wednesday and was busy! It's probably because of how amazing the food is. I ordered the full plate of veg momos for me and my boyfriend. I promise you, I could've easily eaten 30 alone. They came out piping hot, and with an AMAZING homemade sauce, i would ask for extra. The vegan selection here is plentiful and you don't even have to customize anything, which is a relief. I got the tofu with potatoes, peas and a rich tomato sauce. It was FILLING and very authentic tasting. The food is seriously temperature wise HOT. Spice wise, could've turned it up a notch. This well-oiled machine serves flavorful and exciting food that is familiar if you know and like Indian food but offers a twist that intrigues and satisfies. We had the yak momo -- by the end of the evening we started to wear out the joke that we wanted mo mo momo, but it didn't diminish our growing love for these yak meat dumplings. Mo momo! While the owner tries to be nice he definitely nickel and dimes the experience by charging you an extra dollar for every little bit of momo sauce or tamarin sauce. First he gives you a small amount of it forcing you to order more and he then proceeds to nickel an dime you, you'd think that after spending almost three hundred dollars he'd at least comp that- Indian house on grand - by comparison does not charge extra for said items. The worst part is that you do not feel well after eating their food it is not made and or served in any way that nourishes you. With that in mind I will never go back to Everest on Grand. We've now dined here a few times for dinner and are really beginning to like this place. First, unlike another business down the street, Everest welcomed us with open arms when we walked in half an hour before closing time. Second, we've gotten to ordering chicken curry and chau-chau (a noodle dish that kind of reminds me of lo mein in Chinese places). The chau-chau comes with your choice of meat... I'd recommend chicken or shrimp. The vegetables are nice and fresh and the whole dish is just perfectly prepared. We also have ordered the meat momos and found them to be just as delicious as the yak momos. It's truly a heart-wrenching decision to choose between the two. Finally, order a garlic naan bread for the table. It is SO good, especially right out of the oven just made for you! Though I have read service complaints from others, we've never experienced any. In our experience, the staff might not be the most chatty, but they are helpful, knowledgeable and eager to please. They bring refills before they are asked and they get the food incredibly right. HOWEVER... it pisses me off when some places refuse to customize the entree portions. I'm a smallish antisocial asian girl who likes to eat alone and sample varieties. Call me a food-elitist, but I don't eat to feel full, I eat for enjoyment. I was not happy about paying full price so I could stuff myself with 2 pounds of chicken chhoyla, and ended up giving away most of my plate ("what a waste of money", the stingy asian in me thought). I have to say, I wasn't sure quite what to expect when I walked in, considering I hadn't had Nepalese cuisine before. However, I had a wicked craving for curry and my excellent date suggested we hit this up. I was more than excited to dig into some raita, chicken tikka masala, and basmati rice. It probably didn't help that I walked in pretty hungry, but our wait for the naan to come out was longer than I had expected. Again, not being overly familiar with Nepalese cuisine, I was taken slightly aback by the sweeter taste to the naan, but I wasn't in any position to be picky. The wait staff was super friendly, but the wait to get our main courses just kept dragging on. Luckily, I was in good company, but it was still a bit excessive (in fairness, they were busy). Worst veggie momos I've had and I've had many. I was introduced to homemade veggie momos from my Nepali students mother. Best food in the entire world. For an accurate veggie momo and momo sauce, try the ones at The Himalaya or Highland Cafe and Bakery. The owners of Everest should also taste other veggie momos across the city and step their game up. The veggie momos at Everest were under filled, too doughy/ too much dough (gross mouth feel), under cooked so they stuck together and ripped open, and the momo sauce tastes very different and overly spicy. It's not momo sauce but some sauce from another dish that tastes slightly reminiscent of momo sauce. I'll never order momos from here again. I'll be driving 20 minutes to Highland Cafe and Bakery (the owner is Nepali and they serve about 6 Nepali food items on their menu), which are the best in the Twin Cities in terms of construction, authentic taste, and presentation. read more

Seriously delicious food here. I just discovered this place last night and already returned for a second meal within 24 hours. I highly recommend the veggie momos. Steamed perfectly and full of flavor. My friend got the yak momos and scarfed them down equally fast. Service was somewhat slow yet polite, and I was happy with everything I got. Decent but small selection of beers which was nice. For the price I got a really nice portion of food as well. 10 dumplings(momos) for $10. I've now been here a few times. Everest on Grand has become a favorite restaurant. I only wish I had more money to spend out. I'd go here almost every week if I could. They use spices wonderfully. The bouquet begins a euphoria before you enter the door. The lamb tikka masala has become a favorite. The chicken palak is also a great dish. Naan comes out fresh and delicious. I always get one of the white wines, prefering something full bodied and floral to compliment the spices. Come when you can enjoy time with your meal and conversation, and it's always best with people who don't have narrow, specific tastes who might complain about not finding "regular" food. I used to came here all the time 14 years ago. Now after returning, the prices have quadrupled and the quality has drastically decreased. I ordered the momo's, and what I got was something else. They had zero flavor, not even salt. The only explanation I have for them, is they are store bought frozen, and they steam them and call them "authentic momo's".I cannot say anything about any other dishes on the menu, but their momo recipe needs some work. read more

In the past this restaurant consistently provided kind and helpful service, something has changed. We visit the Twin Cities from our home 3 hours north. Due to COVID, for the last few years they have not had sit down service. Tonight we discovered they had sit down. We had already ordered our order to go. It was 4:30 pm, only one party in the restaurant, so we asked if we could just change the status to eat in. They said no. We received the food, we asked for Chia. They said they do not have any (by the way, across the street at Kowalski's are all the spices) . We asked for forks with the to go order. They only had spoons. We asked for a paper plate or something to eat on, they didn't have a plate. We have always enjoyed Nepalese Food. In college, my husband worked at a Nepalese restaurant in Boulder. So, we are disappointed that the proprietor of this restaurant lacks the gracious hospitality of so many other restaurants.
