Loved our takeout from World Famous Momo. In an unassuming spot off Robert street, it's a sleepy Momo shop that was pretty quiet on a weekday evening. What they lack in aesthetic is made up for in taste. The momos are GOOD! Veggie and chicken are equally tasty and flavorful. The spicy momo sauce is delicious. Enjoyed the samosas as well. Small family owned restaurant with maybe 4 tables available. Quick service and friendly staff. They answered my questions and even showed me some of the products they used to ensure no animal products. I ordered a veggie samosa and veggie Momo's. Flavor was amazing!! Definitely getting additional samosas next time. I also thought the Momo's had meat in them and after talking with the restaurant, they explained veggie Momo's have a soy protein that looks like meat, ensuring me that the veggie option is stored separately to be sure. This is a little restaurant with about 15 or so seats at 3 tables. What they make are momos: steamed or fried dumplings with a chicken curry filling (they also do a veg version). As a first time visitor to the store, I got a complete tour of the menu, which is happily short and uncomplicated. The most help was getting all the food items explained very well. I got the combo, which included 5 momo (steamed), 1 meat-filled samosa, a bara, which is a fried bread make of lentils, spring onions, and spices. There were 2 dipping sauces available: harisa (hot hot hot!) and a sweet sesame sauce I don't recall the name of. When I ordered he asked which i wanted. I chose the harissa. When he brought my order, he brought the other sauce, too. And I was so glad he did! This little hole-in-the-wall place doesn't have much in the way of ambience, but it has charm, great food, and very friendly staff. I think most people get take away rather than dining in. I rather enjoyed sitting there, just enjoying the food and the heat from the sun through the windows and the spices. So happy I tried it. I will be a frequent visitor for sure! read more

With that out of the way, World Famous Momo is a small spot in South St. Paul serving a variety of Nepalese snacks. The menu is small and simple. Unfortunately, the vegetable momo is not vegan as the kindly owners mentioned the interior filling uses butter. But the samosa ($2.75 for one) is vegan by default and tasted pretty good. It was fresh and hand-made. My only small gripe is that they put raisins in it, which adds unwanted sweetness and the unwanted texture of raisins. The bara ($2 for one) is a a savory fried Nepalese lentil pancake and also vegan by default. I liked it a lot. This is the type of snack you want with a cold beer on a hot day. If World Famous Momo had a vegan momo, I'd be back all the time. As it stands, it's a nice spot off-the-beaten-track in a multicultural enclave of the Twin Cities. read more

My friends and I ended up in a part of town were very unfamiliar with in west St. Paul on a Sunday night. Most places were either closing wnd we wanted something quick to take to go. We were hungry and trying to narrow down where to eat and we drove past the sign that said world famous momo. I had eaten momos before and loved them and it didn't take much to convince the car full of hungry people to stop in. Most of the restaurants on the street looked like small hole in the wall type places. When we entered an older man greeted us and was very friendly. He walked us through the menu and I had the combo. It was a great deal got to try the bara, momos, a mango lassi, and a samosa. The sauces that came with were nice like a green minty sauce and the second maybe more of a tamarind. We were the only ones in and I think they were going to close shortly after we left. I enjoyed the momos and samosa had a little kick to it. The couple running the place was so sweet! Really excited to eat here.. well I mean try the food. The tables were incredibly dirty and I spent time cleaning the table I was at. I don't know when the last time they wiped their tables were. As the different stains were on the plastic table top and were incredibly difficult to remov This makes me a hit nervous about- if they wash their machines, blender, utensils etc. How clean is this place? I will let the health inspector figure that one out but even with the food, I probably would never eat here again even though this is my favorite type of food. So happy I found this spot!! Such good Momo + the samosas were beautiful! We both got the combo meal which comes with a mango lassi, 5 momo (chicken or veggie, we got one of both), a samosa, and bara (lentil patties). I thought I'd like the chicken more, but the veggie was wonderful. Seriously so good. Next time we will probably instead order 2 full orders of the momo and then get a samosa each. It comes to about the same price as 2 combo meals, but we didn't LOVE the bara and I prefer to spend my money on food rather than beverage so to me it's worth it to trade in those two things for extra momo! It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall spot, and they specialize mostly in takeout, which I would recommend doing. Especially in the summer...this food is perfect to bring to a park! Yummy momos!! We went here and got everything on the menu. I really enjoyed everything except paratha. I loved the momos and the samosas the best!! We had one fried and one steamed mono and they were both awesome! The mango lassi was good but not great. So happy this place is fairly close to us and an easy drive to get to. This was 100% authentic Nepali! The chicken momos were delicious, we tried fried and steamed. Even though the feeling was the same the cooking methods did make a difference.The sauces were amazing, try the spicy, Husband told me to stop eating it with a spoon. We tried the stuffed ParnathA bread too and that was very good, came with a sweet chili sauce. I think my daughter would've eaten one all by herself. The samosa was light and crispy, full of filling and not greasy at all. . I really liked the Bara, that was new to me and it was very good. Oh my god, so delicious! The momos here are amazing!!! We got both the steamed chicken and steamed veggie momos as well as some samosas. Seasoning is perfect on both kinds of momos: the veggie version are a little spicier of the two whereas the herbs and ginger really sing in the chicken version. Their momos are also a bit larger than the ones at other places in town. You can choose from spicy or regular momo achar (sauce) as an accompaniment. Both are great. The only thing I would warn against is shoving a momo into your mouth as soon as the order arrives because they are scalding hot inside and will burn greedy little mouths like mine. The samosas are also excellent with a nice crisp shell that wasn't greasy or dense and had another tasty well-seasoned filling. Another reviewer disliked the addition of raisins to the samosas but texturally they aren't disruptive at all in the filling and I really enjoyed the subtle sweetness they add. Excellent, excellent place and I look forward to coming back as soon as I can! Friendly nice service as well. Really you should go right away and treat yourself to some of these momos. read more

The food is delicious. Their Momos are by far more delicious than any South Asian restaurant in the Twin Cities in which I have tried momos. So fresh and so much cheaper than some other ones that serve stale or greasy food and are so expensive because of their location. This is a mom and pops restaurant and the people who work there are very courteous and nice. The sitting area, however, is not fancy at all and I think takeout is the way to go at this restaurant. I had the combo with momos, Berra, samosa, and mango Lassi and the whole thing was $13 (I had a fraction of that food at another Nepalese restaurant a couple of weeks ago and paid $55! And the food there was so greasy that I could not eat it. This place, in comparison, is far superior.It's close to my cats' vet, so I will be getting food here whenever I'm in this part of town to pick up cat meds, etc. read more
