Beautiful piece of art on the way to see Manneken Pis. If you visit Brussels or specifically the Grand Place you should definitely stop and touch the Everard t'Serclaes statue. They say it will bless and give luck or grant a wish to all those who touch it, and it's really interesting to see the wear in the statue from all who have already. Given free reign to touch something that felt rather sacred made me weary. Usually art is always blocked off or unable to be touched or is protected. Seeing the polish and shine of basically a washing of many hands going over it was a lovely experience. Plus seeing everyone so interested in it was as well.
The statue itself has a fascinating appearance.. it looks anguished and beaten as depicted in the story related to the person this artwork was commemorated to. A dog and small angel accompanying him.
Some say that touching it will bring you back to Brussels. A man by the statue attested to the thought saying he's returned there several times after touching the statue and was there yet again. Has it granted any of his wishes? I don't know, but he seemed happy to have returned to Brussels. read more
