We were lucky enough to be in Brussels during the time (short window from late July to early September) the royal palace is open to the public. It is absolutely free and you are allowed to take pictures. It takes no more than an hour to go through (and there are free-which is hard to come by in Europe-bathrooms, just FYI). There is even an interactive area for children towards the end. There is a roped off pathway through the palace, but you do not have to necessarily follow it. There are guards in each room as well. Not sure if they can answer questions, but I did notice them telling some people to turn off their flashes on the phones. The palace, as expected, is very grand and beautiful. There are lots of photo ops and history plaques in the more museum part of the palace. Lots of items on Belgian industrialization currently and military memorabilia. You could tell the crowds were both locals and tourists. The security was not stringent going in, but they do make you check umbrellas, coats, etc. I really enjoyed the look into the Royal Palace and I'd suggest anyone in Brussels during the time it's open to the public pay the Le Palais Royal a visit. read more
