Can't believe it's taken me THIS long to write a review but it's long OVERDUE. First time I had their food was in July 2025 and it has stood the test of time having been the place I've eaten at the most in Aberdeen. Not only is the falafel crispy and well seasoned, spanakopita flaky and yummy, super combo gyro divine but they are an entirely family-run business. Although I usually order for takeout, the service is quick (orders are ready in 25 minutes) and organized. You'll see their son and daughter working the register or cooking in the back passing down the family tradition. Honestly the greatest Greek food I've had in a very long time! Evangelo and his wife Georgia have been in business for over 20 years. A testament to the quality of mom and pop shops. Has a diner feel that's very cozy. One time I even waited and had a full 20 minute conversation with Georgia when I even walked in and ordered on the spot. Love love love this place! It's like Grandma's kitchen as soon as you walk in and the food taste is a perfect combination to it. I'm a huge fan of their soups, whether it be the chicken noodle, split pea, broccoli and cheese, or my personal favorite their lentil soup. The grape leaves are also a personal fav and I'm always ordering for pick up because it's on the way home and their always fast with my orders. Sometimes it gets really busy and you have to play phone tag to reach them, but that's ok, their worth the call back a few times before getting through. Highly recommend if you're in the area. The gyros and/or platter is also very good, my husband gets it all the time, just be sure to ask for the fries extra crispy, because then they're perfect. read more

Loved this Greek inspired diner that I visited today with my family. I got the Popeyes salad with shrimp and the serving was the perfect size. My kids got the burger, hotdog and side of fries and then shared rice pudding and the baklava. Everything tasted fresh and yummy! read more

Really good food! I had the beef/lamb gyro and it was all fresh and delicious. The tzatziki sauce was great! Matt really enjoyed his teriyaki chicken sandwich. We stopped in here for a quick lunch based on the reviews left by other customers and it didn't disappoint. We opted for some of their most popular and frequently ordered dishes starting with the coffee, pita, Lentil soup, Baklava, Kabobs, and the Gyro wrap. My young adult son and I stopped here for a quick bite before an event we were attending nearby. The food was fresh, the place was clean with very authentic diner vibes, and the owners were so sweet and friendly. Their Greek dishes are authentic and so tasty - their falafel was among the best I've ever had. my new favorite Greek spot. now I see why it has such high ratings. I got the beef gyro and my friend got the kebab platter. it was perfectly seasoned and in a soft, warm pita. it's also an intimate small owned business which makes it great location to casually hang out. the real star of the show was the Baklava... my goodness. it was the best I had. look at the photos for the visual of the layers and delicacy of this baklava. the service was also fantastic. will be coming back! read more

We were heading home and looked up diners near parkway. Place looked good so we stopped. This is not a minus but our living room is larger than the restaurant. Food was good price was fare. We had the breakfast menu all day. Only negative was they were short handed and so owners were doing 3-5 jobs. They had a lot of takeout and I bet great Greek food by the menu and orders being picked up!! Had to park next store due to small parking area shared with other stores. read more

I'm in Matawan often for business. When I want a gyro, I want a great gyro and Evan's is my go to spot! It's 100% family run by Angelo, Georgia, Dimitri and Joanne and their staff. The smaller, efficient establishment provides great meals and a warm feel like you're eating at their home. The subtleties of photos of Greece and almost always a soccer game on their television give you an authentic European ambiance. In addition to their gyros, they make great burgers and chicken sandwiches too. There proximity to the Garden State Parkway, and a driver who knows his gyros landed Evan's a famous surprise diner - Paris Hilton. I recommend them. Friends and I grab an afternoon lunch and relax and catch up here because of the warmth and charm of this spot. Visited for Saturday lunch. It was not packed at all. Evan's offers diner food, greek gyros/platters, and sandwiches. I went for the beef & lamb gyro. It was packed with meat, lots of tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, sparing onions, wrapped in a warm pita. I appreciated it was wrapped so that I can hold and keep my hands clean. It was definitely a hefty gyro and I was satisfied when I finished. Service was fast and it was a nice local place to stop by. It is a local hometown spot that I am sure stays busy. 2 - 3 people in the kitchen and a very nice (and cute) waitress named Joanna that will take good care of everyone. Amazing she's able to get through so many customers and give everyone personal attention. The gyro was so good. Perfectly cooked chicken. Juicy in each strip. The bread was so soft and delicious even by itself I had it with yellow rice verses with fries. And good choice. The rice was so fluffy with flavor and needed no additional salt or pepper. Thanks to Yelp and also living locally and driving by every day I was able to find this little gem in Matawan. My husband and I visited here for the first time for an early lunch. the staff was so very kind and welcoming the second you walk in. They have an extensive menu with a lot of diner fare and a mix of authentic Greek food. My husband and I started off by having Greek salads. The feta cheese was excellent and a lot which I liked. My husband had an order of fried wings and fries. The wings came out perfectly crispy and very tasty. I ordered a beef gyro. The gyro was huge and had great flavor. It was exactly what a gyro was supposed to be. I really enjoyed my lunch here and cannot wait to come back and try more. read more

Found in an internet search for gyros. Place is smallish with counter but a nice number of tables for seating. Place is in an old school strip of stores with limited parking in front. Place looked clean and the young Greek woman at the counter was very personable. As for the gyro, it was very good with a nice amount of meat for the price which other places that charge the same or more have I'd guess like 20% less of. Will go back. read more

Awesome place! We stayed in NJ for a week and found this place to have a breakfast. It was absolutely delicious. The place is not fancy but welcoming. Both the lady and the man were very nice and friendly. I ordered veggie omelette and asked to add mushrooms which they did no problem. The omelette came out perfect. Not dry, not watery, just right! You can taste that the man cooks with love. I think he is the owner but I'm not sure. It takes a bit longer than regular diners which shows that he prepares each dish just for you to make it perfect. The potatoes were delicious as well. We also ordered French toasts. It was also very good. I only wish they had maple syrup instead of regular one but it's not a big deal. The unbelievable part is that it was under $25 for that amazing breakfast, which I thought is impossible nowadays. We love it so much we came back one more time in a day and ordered another 2 veggie omelettes which were just as good as my first. So they are consistent with their quality. Very small, family run diner in a tiny little strip mall. If you don't know it's there you would easily drive past it. The parking lot is small, maybe 6 cars can fit. Service was excellent and fast. Trying to frequent more of our local restaurants me and my sister chose to visit Evan's. We started lunch off with Evan's Tiropita, a Phyllo dough pastry filled with ricotta cheese, feta cheese, and various herbs. The cheese filling was so yummy with the unctuous funk of feta and the creamy richness of ricotta; all balanced out with herbs which tasted like an Oregano blend. My only slight was the Phyllo dough which was a tad chewy at some spots and not crispy. My main dish was the large Greek salad and also a side order of Gyro meat. The Greek salad was so healthy and refreshing; full of crispy lettuce, cool cucumber slices, juicy tomato wedges, and smooth black olives. Dressed simply with oil and vinegar (I swear there was some lemon juice too) it was the perfect balancing element. Not to stray too much on the healthy end, I added a side order of Gyro meat. Having enjoyed Evan's Gyro in my previous visit, I knew it would be good and I was not disappointed. It was rich and slightly gamey in flavor (not sure if they use a beef/lamb blend), with plenty of excellent herbs and spices (I tasted Rosemary, Thyme, and Oregano to name a few). I recommended to my sister to try the Pork Kabobs and she did so ordering the Two Pork Kabob Sticks Platter with rice from the Greek Platter section of the menu. Two generous pork kabob skewers were cooked perfectly maintaining both delicious grill flavor and juicy tenderness. However, she could not stop raving about the rice. We both couldn't point out the seasonings used to flavor the rice but it was so tasty. My sister also added a Chicken Noodle Soup and it was a solid rendition; warm and inviting. Served on the side was a plate of Pita bread and Tzatziki sauce. The Pita was soft and flavorful (I think it was slightly toasted on the griddle), and the Tzatziki was top notch being tangy, smooth, and cooling. read more
