Bought a new Colt King Cobra 357 mag Tuesday 10/21. Evens new guns seem to be $60-$80 over other shops in Lexington. I have bought from more shops than i can recall right off. There forms are still paper. Print so small even with glasses i was having trouble. Traffic is terrible any time of day on the south side. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The shop was clean and well stocked. Ample parking, in gravel lot. Dangerous pulling out tho, due to limited view of on coming traffic. And there's a lot of it. My over all experience was ok. After being viciously attacked by an unleashed pit bull who, unbeknownst to me, mauled a small child the night before, I decided it's a good idea to carry pepper spray on my daily walks. I've driven by Evans Firearm & Archery a hundred times, so I decided to check it out. I was greeted by David who asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I told him my story and he was very empathetic, as were all the store employees. He walked me through the various options describing the features of each. He patiently answered all of my questions, and I left feeling confident about protecting myself if necessary. He also explained how pepper spray affects dogs versus humans. I hope I never have to use my spray, but if I do I'll return to Evans for a replacement and their outstanding service! read more

If you're looking for the locally owned feel, if you're looking for customer service, and if you're looking for knowledgeable sales staff, this is your place. From start to finish I had a guy working with me. That's unusual. And it's also a welcome change to most modern buying experiences. I was looking for a .380, and I'd seen a lot of positive online reviews of the new M&P Shield EZ. I also had a CZ83 that I was hoping to trade in. As soon as I walked in a salesman was available to help. They had the exact gun I was looking for. They offered me what I considered to be a quick (less than five minutes), fair offer on my trade in and we made the deal. The only part that took a little longer than usual was the background check. The salesman was even there as I walked out the door. I can't say enough how good the customer service is here. They're not as competitive on price as Bud's is, but in my opinion, Bud's doesn't offer the best customer service. Additionally, they gave me a fair price on my trade in, so I felt good doing business with them. It just depends on what you're looking for. If you want the lowest price in the city, you're not going to find that here. But if you want the best overall experience, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a shop that does it any better. read more

Small shop located a little off Nicholasville road. Service was super friendly from the moment we walked in. James is truly the nicest person you could ask for when getting kids started in an archery program. He is knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. We purchased two bows for our boys plus two sets of arrows and cases for both at a better price than I found on Amazon. Yay for supporting local business! One of our sons preferred a different color, so we returned to the store and they were friendly and helpful about exchanging the colors. We highly recommend James and Evans Archery for anyone involved in student archery programs. I would also believe the service would be similar if we were shopping for a firearm. I just left Evan's. Terrible customer service. I asked if I could get a part put on my AR. The kid said "no problem, let me get the AR guy." The AR guy snapped at us that he wasnt taking no more work orders! I've bought and traded guns there for years. I won't anymore. I'll be taking my Dan Wesson, Wilson Combat, CZ, Colt business elsewhere. These guys got it all wrong. You put a part on a guys gun and maybe he buys his next 10 guns from you, SIMPLY because of your good customer service! Then again, that's what's wrong with this country nowadays. These guys are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about firearms. They have a wonderful selection, and though their prices aren't as good as some online, they blow Cabela's out of the water in my opinion. (Plus the difference in prices aren't actually that far off from Cheaper than Dirt, which is hard to do.) This is the shop I choose when looking for a firearm. Spend a couple of extra bucks, and support a local business. As for those who say the customer service isn't good. I completely disagree. It might take a second for someone to approach you, but once they do, they will absolutely answer any questions you might have, and spend a considerable amount of time helping you. I see the bad reviews but me being a new one to gun ownership and not knowing a lot about handguns besides what people at work taught and showed me and recommended to me and other family members that hunt and own guns. Anyway for my first experience at buying my first handgun all I can say is it could not have been better at Evens for me. I told them I'm new at this and kind of what people have recommended to me and to make the story short they helped me and told me all about the different types handguns I was looking for and educated me on different kinds of bullets and also bought a fingerprint safe. And may I add their price for the pistol I purchase was a better price than the big box stores and I'm very happy with my purchase and will be going back like today to buy a smaller gun to take on my bike trips.And plus people this is a gun store not a department store and it looks like a gun shop should look like LOL...Anyway this is my go to place and will hopefully soon do my conceal carry with them. And one more thing, my Dad had an old shotgun and it's like 90 yrs old and Jay looked at it for me and told me more about it beyond my own research I did on it and if it was safe to shoot or not. Terrible customer service. Not one person greeted me, or acknowledged me being in the store. I was completely ignored. First off the store was very haphazard and poorly organized, very unprofessional looking. I was looking to buy a pistol and knew exactly what I wanted to look at, but nobody offered to help me. I felt weird and creeped out because of the complete lack of acknowledgment. They were waiting on people right next to me despite me being right in front of them and being quiet and waiting my turn. And despite me being professionally dressed. There were only like three people working the counters and they apparently don't know how to multi-task because when a potential new customer comes in you don't just ignore them or at least offer a "hello" or "I'll be right with you". The building fits right along with the shoddy customer service too, it looks sketchy and run down. I won't be back, there's another gun shop that knows how to treat new customers. read more

This is the best gun shop around! Evans has excellent customer service and a great selection of guns and accessories. They have all the top name brands and models of guns. They have a lot of both new and used guns. They have a good selection of scopes and red dot sights. They're fair on the prices on their guns and accessories. They have a good store layout and everything is neat and easy to find. I have personally shopped there many times and I am always greeted by the friendly staff. Everyone that works there is extremely friendly helpful and knowledgeable. I have been waited on by James and John many times and both always answers any questions that I may have and never try to push or rush me in to buying anything. Even if I am just having a gun transferred in to do the background check transfer from buying someplace online they are friendly and helpful. In my personal opinion customer service and how well a company treats their customers is very important in a store.
