Who wants to buy old fruits and veggies from the grocery store instead of shopping at an open-air market? From early May through November, the Suffolk Farmers' Market (SFM) provides a plethora for our senses. Approximately three years ago the SFM started a visitor center that has some nice features, including a pavilion and ceiling fans. Here are key features: -local produce -baked goods -artisan crafts (e.g., jewelry, bags, wood, etc.) -dog biscuits -live music -plants -petting zoo -grass-fed meat and eggs The SFM is open Wednesdays (3 p.m. - 6 p.m.) and Saturdays (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.); personally, I would recommend going on Saturdays as the selections on Wednesdays can be sparse. It is not the biggest market around; but, more so, it's about the community and supporting local businesses. Check it out!

They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. The other reviews say cash only - but they did have a square card reader so you can pay with card. It's was $20 dollars for a bucket & pick your own strawberries. This patch was very spacious so even though there were quite a few other pickers, it felt like you were on your own. The strawberry photo cutouts were an adorable added bonus. Will definitely be back again & especially for pumpkins.

They update the fb almost every day on how the crop is looking, the berries are wonderfully sweet and very well maintained. There are little signs to poke your head through to make you look like a strawberry person- and the people who run is are small town honest people. I only had a credit card this one time, so they told me (and I saw them do this to multiple people too!) to just take the berries and come back eventually when I had cash. I know it's the honor system but it was so nice to be treated like a human vs customer. These are good people, good berries and good picking

The event included food trucks and a variety of vendors. My friend and I grabbed some BBQ from S&J Catering and it was delicious. We also grabbed donuts from Klassic Donuts and Glazed & Infuzed as well, which were very tasty. As we walked through the different shops, I absolutely loved all the fresh local, produce that was available. One of the shops offered a variety of jarred items and sauces so I purchased Crab Salsa and Spicy Pickled Okra. Both were very good and I definitely need to go back and get more! I absolute love supporting local businesses and I will definitely be returning very soon! Everyone was very nice and I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

This is a seasonal market that runs from 10am-2pm every Thursday; mid-May through mid-September. They had a great variety of vendors. The food vendor that caught my eye had lobster rolls. There were two or three stands for fresh produce. They also had a few craft vendors and vendors selling homemades like soaps and dog treats. Only 1 MLM company from what I noticed. They also had a few local organizations. I spent most of my time talking to the local 4H Office representatives. As a former 4-Her this was a really nice surprise! This is a great way to spend a Thursday afternoon in Newport News, plus parking is free! You can also enjoy the shops and restaurants throughout City Center! The LOVE NN sign is just around the corner. You can get a new profile pic to proudly show your love for Newport News and it's hidden treasures... like this market!

I am coming back year every year and the staff are so kind caring and respectful and so sweet and wonderful people and plus they have little market to buy staff. Plus they are wonderful so kind and lovely and so sweet and and awesome place and everything is so awesome and wonderful and and everything looks brilliant and excellent and I appreciate them so much for all there hard work and devotion to the community others and the farmers for planting incredible fruit that are strawberries and so fresh and tasty and delicious and brings back memories for me when I younger picking strawberries with my favorite family.
