Just recently visited the Lifetime location located inside the Houston Galleria Mall and to start I…read morewill say the location is not the easiest to find. To find it the quickest way is to input 5100 W Alabama St in your GPS where it will take you to the Orange Garage of the Galleria. From there you'll eventually start to see barely visible signage directing you where to park (Level 3). The official name of this location is Lifetime Galleria Tennis and it's considered a Diamond Level location. I called ahead of time to see if they had other gym amenities besides the tennis courts and they said they do have a workout area with weights and cardio machines but it's not at the same capacity as a traditional Lifetime gym. I decided to check it out anyway and the facility is about 90% tennis courts and 10% workout floor. The workout floor is extremely limited. There's only a few machines for lifting, I think I counted 4 treadmills and 4 stair masters. I was surprised at how small the place was. But the tennis courts are massive. I think this used to be owned by a different gym and rebranded into a Lifetime Fitness because I know for a fact this location hasn't been here for that long. I'm a bit disappointed on the upkeep of the facility. It doesn't feel like a Lifetime Fitness, it feels like an old dungeon. The renovations that were made to turn this place into a Lifetime Fitness seem very sloppy. There is no pool. No studios for workout classes. But there is a LifeCafe. If you just want to play tennis it's a decent place. But my first impressions weren't great. For $279 a month, I don't think this is worth labeling as a Diamond Level location. The staff is very friendly though, I'll give them that.

I had a very disturbing experience at Life Time Fitness. While I was working out, someone opened my…read morelocker, stole my bag, and left all my other belongings inside. This happened within a few hours, during my time at the gym. I reported it to Maribel, who is in charge of the women's locker keys. Her response was deeply disappointing -- she told me I could call the police, but that they probably wouldn't do anything. That kind of comment from someone with access to the locker system made me feel completely unsupported. The manager on duty offered to check the security cameras the following day, but there was no immediate action, no urgency, and no sense of real accountability. For a gym that advertises itself as a premium facility, this was a completely unacceptable experience. I left feeling vulnerable, frustrated, and unprotected. I do not recommend Life Time Fitness if you value your safety, your belongings, or expect to be taken seriously when something like this happens. What happened to me could easily happen to you.

And I'm not even official there if you will. I'm still on ClassPass but changing that bc I genuinely want to support this team and place of business. Also, the other most important thing is that I thoroughly enjoy my / the workouts and people here. I'm constantly being pushed to be and do better but never shunned if I have an off day. Also, I want to clarify that the energy I spoke about is not just towards me. It's with everyone that comes here. Illuminate is top notch bc of these things and I'm so happy I found a place that makes my days fire! All my best, Katie

Jared and Ricky are the instructors: Jared teaches 6 a.m. Monday & Wednesday classes, and Ricky teaches 6:15 p.m. Tuesday & Thursday classes. Classes are held in Levy Park, which is right off of Richmond and Eastside. It costs 80 bucks for 8 sessions: that's a crazy steal in the fitness world. To sign up, go to the website and pay. Then just show up for a class. You have to use them in 4 weeks or you lose them, so that means committing to at least 2 a week. You'll feel the difference in a week - I've gotten so much stronger already, and I've only been to 4 sessions so far. As for the difficulty of the workouts, yep, it's tough. The great thing is that it's geared for women, and they make lots of suggestions about modifying exercises if they're too difficult for you in the beginning. If you're not into the boot camp thing, they also do personal training. Check 'em out for that too!

I once came in one day with a sore shoulder from overuse and the light shoulder exercises Brice had me do helped my recovery significantly. I was 90% recovered by the next day! It's only been a month of training with Brice, and I already feel better about my body and even my posture. Did I mention how nice the gym is? Brice recently moved to a new gym and it is spacious with brand new equipment. All his clients are friendly people too! He knows what he is doing, pays attention, and genuinely wants the best for his clients. THE CORE gym is clean and has plenty of parking. When the previous gym shut abruptly, Brice had us up and running in the current gym basically overnight. Amazing. He prices his services to motivate you to go 3x a week. That may sound like a lot but it creates a routine. And that's GOOD. He pushes you in a "you can do this" way but is realistic if the weight is just too much. Brice balances the sessions so that your whole body gets a workout over the week. And he is big on stretching. He works hard to plan productive sessions where your time is valued. Not much on chitchat and no "lollygagging". Heather covers on certain days of the week; she is knowledgeable as well with a dry sense of humor. I highly recommend giving them a try. Your first workout is complimentary, I think, so really what do you have to lose? Just do it. It's time.
