Well, after several misfires I decided to go back to where I know people will not rip me off and came back. They now have an online appointment request form which is pretty easy to navigate and I got my request approved quickly, which isn't an easy feat as they are always busy. They still offer the same amenities (coffee, hand sanitizer) and touchpads/keyless drop off for COVID-19 compliance. This time I didn't tell them I go to local med school and they still treated me fairly, which I appreciated. There was a mix up at the front desk because there were two similar cars, one needed filters and tires replaced and I, knowing from my maintenance schedule, needed my rear brakes and oil filter replaced (among other things but those were the big ones). After telling me I didn't need both cabin and oil filters replaced, one of the workers came back and told me I did, by *bringing my air filters to me in the lobby where other patrons were waiting*, telling me "it's time to be replaced". It was weird because it felt like he was shaming me for not maintaining my car after someone else had a conversation with me about not needing that part fixed. I told him that I will do whatever I need to do in order to get my car running well, but told him about the mix up conversation I had and he was pretty rude to me about it. Ultimately, I paid for all the recommended repairs here even though I was quoted cheaper elsewhere because I like John, since I first met them, him and his team have always been kind and honest with me and I want to support local businesses. However, I was just, more than anything, really hurt by what happened. Maybe they just have a lot of customers being very rude/reactionary when it comes to servicing, but that's not me and it never has been. I know I haven't been here in two years but I still recommend JP to everyone who asks for a quality shop. I honestly still recommend JP, but I will probably talk to Paul or Art next time. Pros: Honest shop, off the highway, takes payment over the phone, covid compliance Cons: Gets swamped quickly, may take a while to get your appointment/finish repairs. By 1:30 they had diagnosed the issue and let me know what the cost would be and let me know the car should be ready for pick up by the end of the day. I gave them the go ahead, and at 3:30 my car was ready! I got there right at closing due to traffic, and luckily caught everyone as they were heading out. They let me know in the future to just give them a call if I'm running a few minute late so I don't waste a trip over there. But I got everything paid for, and drove off my car, as good as new! Will definitely be back next time I need a routine service or something else more pressing checked out!

Alas, I embarked on a deep dive into researching BMW experts in the area. Though I was skeptical of going to a mechanic who is also a dealer for reasons one may conjure on their own, Carhavn had the strongest reviews by far and seemingly very transparent practices. The first time I dropped of my beautiful 325xi wagon, I started off by proactively pontificating that I would never sell it, so not even to bother trying to sell me into something newer or attempt to buy my low mileage, sea-foam green beauty off of me. Ramiro is a funny, kind, straightforward and very thoughtful guy who I could tell immediately upon meeting that he could handle not only me (um, handful) but my many questions and the needs of my older car. He approaches consultation with excellent transparency and communication. Even more importantly, for a woman by herself in a new mechanic's shop, I never once felt mansplained to (ladies, you will know that this is very important). Ramiro listens and clearly joys in educating people about their cars and how to have a lasting relationship with them. He is the owner and from what I can tell, does not do the actual repairs, and on one occasion where I called to say "hey this thing has suddenly stopped working" he went and asked his guys, came right back and said "try doing this" and viola, the problem fixed itself without me having to bring it in (or pay anything). That's major. When I first read the Yelp reviews, I thought that getting photos of the parts and job while work was being done sounded maybe like a bit of overkill, but I'm just a born skeptic... I will tell you that to be on the receiving end of that kind of service has been remarkably comforting, which was unexpected. Especially for my partner who is 80 miles away and usually very involved in the maintenance of our vehicles. I love my car and as driving is such a part of my daily life and I want to keep her healthy, strong on the road for years to come; I definitely have an ally in Ramiro. Lastly, the one time I really got stuck, on the 6th floor of my parking garage two Friday evenings ago, I reached out to Ramiro (to whine, and) to tell him I'd be having the car towed in. He not only responded to me, but called my phone, after hours, to ask about what was happening, to learn what the AAA battery assessment report said, and offered that it sounded fuel related rather than battery, alternator, starter, etc. He checked back with me through the evening as he knew I was by myself, and offered to help how he could... ABOVE AND BEYOND, people. And, it did indeed turn out to be the fuel pump. I'm sure Ramiro didn't want to be doing that on a Friday evening (and maybe I shouldn't be telling others that he did, ha), but this cemented that I was clearly dealing with a business who cares genuinely not only about my satisfaction as a customer, but for my wellbeing as a human person. After having my car serviced by Carhavn on now three occasions (two preventative maintenance jobs, plus the fuel pump), I will attest 100% that Ramiro is an honest business owner with great integrity and a deep, genuine love for European cars and building trust with his clientele. His wife is amazing and I love seeing her warm smile when I come in, too. They can certainly be trusted to do an excellent job with your car; using the best parts they can get their hands on, giving an accurate estimate on cost always (and even a Yale employee discount! Thanks!), delivering within the timeframe promised and they even have a loaner vehicle for pre-planned, all day jobs. Don't even think twice about bringing your car to this business.

I arrived just after 7AM, and Javi (at Tony's) was gracious enough to take a look even though their schedule was packed for that day. He determined my wheel barrings needed to be replaced, and brought me directly into the shop/under my vehicle to talk through a few issues and things I should be watching out for (knowing full well any future repairs wouldn't go to them as I'm obviously from far out of state). When the owner came in, he talked me through my options and squeezed me into his second shop to actually get the work done. He ordered the parts and offered to drive me to his other location (which was unneeded but appreciated), and they were expecting me and immediately got to work on my vehicle. The receptionist quoted me 3 hours and offered to drive me up town to kill time along their main street. I again declined but spent some time wandering up there, got a great breakfast, etc. After 2 hours she called and said she'd put an additional mechanic on my vehicle to save time and that it was ready. They even knocked off the additional cost of labor even though it still took the same (or more) man hours to actually complete it! They made further recommendations like replacing my tires (again, knowing they wouldn't benefit from it), and were very honest about what could and could not wait. Middlesex and Tony's fully took care of me, working me into their already too-full schedule, got me on the road, and I was able to finish my trip to see my family. Their honesty, workmanship, and desire to truly help people was very apparent, and I would recommend them all day long.

When I called back weeks later to reschedule, there was zero guilt-tripping. No passive-aggressive comments. Just patience and understanding, and we set a new date. The work itself was excellent. They repaired the rim same-day so I wouldn't have to buy an entirely new one, handled the tire mount and balance, and the alignment. The cost was a tiny fraction of what the Porsche dealer quoted, and the car drives flawlessly again. However, what stands out most is how these guys operate when things get a bit complicated. The day of the appointment, I showed up a little late after dropping my daughter to daycare. Then I failed to mention at dropoff that I needed the car back by 5:15 to pick her up in Orange. By the time I did share that constraint, it was already 3pm. I went into worst case scenario planning mode and showed up to just grab the car seat from their shop at 4:30 and figure out the rest by getting an uber. When I arrived, they told me they had put two techs on the car after I called, and the car was already finished. I was, and still am, blown away by how they went above and beyond to help me when it was my mistake. That showed to me that these are people who care about their customers.
