My fiancé and I have never operated a Vespa before and we decided to walk into Florence Station rental at 5pm to book a Vespa for a few hours. Lucky for us, there was one Vespa available and we were able to use it despite the shop closing at 5:30pm! Yuri (I believe this is the owner's name) was very accommodating and generally just great to work with. His English is excellent since he has a wife and child living in Hawaii, he's also visited California (my home state) multiple times. Since it was our first time on a Vespa, he made sure to get us comfortable with using the vehicle by teaching my fiancé and riding with him around the block! His instructions were fantastic. Honestly, the streets of Florence are kind of scary to drive around in, especially during rush hour traffic. Yuri gave us a route and a map that we can follow and basic traffic instructions. Luckily, my fiancé is tall and was able to operate the Vespa smoothly. A tip from me is to book a Vespa early in the day (or online). This shop is popular and vehicles may not be available. The countryside is better to be traveled early in the day when there is still light out. The shop does close at 5:30pm so any rentals late in the day will be charged "sunset pricing" but keys can still be return after the shop closes via a special "key hole" in the gate.

During a recent visit to Florence we booked Chianti Drivers to take us to Siena to visit a winery…read moreand see some of the Tuscan countryside. Our driver Massimo was extremely personable and provided great information and history along the way. As a local he was very familiar with Florence, Siena and the Tuscan countryside overall. We stopped for a couple hours in Siena to see the city and then in another small city in Tuscany. We were then taken to the Casa Emma winery. The tour there was very interesting and we sampled four wines pair with some cheese (sprinkled with their amazing balsamic vinegar) and other light fares. We thought this might be the winery that tour drivers take their English passengers to as there were four other groups there during our visit who all spoke English. The wines at the winery itself were great but priced somewhat high so we only got one bottle and that aforementioned balsamic vinegar. The trip back goes through a more historical roadway (versus the autostrada) which offers truly incredible views. On the way back to the hotel we needed a quick restroom break so our driver stopped at a local grocer that has a large wine selection. He helped us pick our three other wines from the region that he enjoyed that were very reasonably priced. This was a nice unexpected stop on the trip and we appreciated his adaptability and wine recommendations! I'd highly suggest both the car service and Massimo for your transportation needs while in Florence. They were reasonably priced and Massimo was a pleasure to ride with!

On the day of, our driver Marco showed up on time, and beyond exceeded our expectations. He was informative - telling us all about the areas we drove through and he was just an overall great person. Special shout out to Marco for making our day so memorable. During our day trip - we visited two smalls towns to begin with, then stopped at a local family winery for lunch and a tasting. That was the BEST stop of the day - Sant'Angese Winery. We had a private tour of the winery, and the food for lunch was amazing. Not to mention their wines, olive oil and balsamic. After that, we stopped at another winery, enjoyed tastings in a cave, then headed back to Florence. Highly highly recommend Chianti Drivers!! Grazie mille a Sabrina and Marco!

Long story short they tried to have us rent a vehicle that would not fit 2 people plus luggage let only 6. We ended up going to a local spot that provided us with 2 cars and was hassle free.

Easy peasy rental - - there are 2 Hertz locations in Bologna: one at the airport and this one near…read morethe train station. Being that we were already in town, I figured it would be easiest to just pick up the car at this location - - and I was right. Technically this location is just across the street from the Stazione Centrale. You go to this office to "check-in" and complete the paperwork. Then you walk approx 70m away to collect your car in a parking garage. We had reserved an "intermediate" (I believe) - and ended up with a cute Fiat Bravo. (Think VW Golf 4 door - but a bit extended.) Staff was friendly; super easy to get the car. And I dropped off at the same garage location. Overall easy deal - - still just waiting for my credit card to get the final bill though. (Hopefully that goes through just as easily - cause "technically" no one was there to officially check me in.) I would rent from here again with future travel to Bologna. Also, it's relatively easy to get onto the autostrada. Advice: Ask for a Bologna map. That was SUPER helpful!
