Freaks and SuperFreaks!

Wow. Just wow. I'm stunned. My husband and I moved to the neighborhood in November and it took us until last weekend to actually go. And wow we're we blown away. We opted to shy away from anything that we could get anywhere else and the guy at the register was super helpful. He had great advice and even let us try a few things. Turns out he's the owner of the store. This guy is DEDICATED and his candy is incredible. He was telling us about how he gets up at 3 am to make candy and the whole thing is kind of just his show. And his candy is just awesome and creative and inventive. His attention to detail is impeccable - this shell is just the right amount of crunchy, the triple dipped malt balls are beautifully thick, each color of freaks has its own unique flavor that really comes through and OH MY GOD THE GUMMIES. Best gummies I've ever had. They're literally perfect. Anyway thanks Eugene. Your store is fantastic, your candy is spectacular, and I can't wait to come back.

Freaks! So amazingly good. I even cut one open in the top right just to see the magic underneath

The Most Creative Candies in New York! There's too many good things to say about Eugene and his fantastic store! How many sweet shops can you say actually make their own creations? I stumbled upon this store while on a random visit to Bushwick and it honestly made my day. Most candy stores in NYC - great as they are - typically are resellers. While Eugene J. does have a wide selection of sweets that are from other producers, there's still a lot of care and attention to what is offered and the curation of sugary treats is excellent.  But the stuff he makes? Oh man. "Freaks," which are his supersized take on Nerds, are amazing. Each one has a different flavor and they last really long (if you don't give in to the temptation to just bite into them). And the chocolate covered corn flakes have this great crispy texture like nothing I've had before.  You have to get the chocolate covered cheerios, too - they have this delicate outer candy coating reminiscent of an M&M, but they look like mini dinosaur eggs or some sort of holiday delight. It's hit after hit in his store and I loved everything I picked up during my first time there. My only regret is I didn't buy more.  And as many other reviewers already mentioned, Eugene himself is a real pleasure to be around. He's super friendly and open, gave me lots of fantastic recommendations when I asked for them (but left me alone to make my mind up), and was an excellent conversationalist.  Simply put, Eugene J. Candy Co. is exactly the kind of place that makes New York such a great city to live in. A hidden gem with an owner who is passionate about his craft, whose workmanship and dedication to quality really shows in the product and speaks for itself.

Whimsical, amazing, delicious! A walk back through childhood. This spot has any and all of your candy needs- plus some!

Super cute place and nice owner. Lots of options and some really brings back memories. I thought the Pet Ray Gummy was adorable although my friend wasn't a fan. Eugene, the owner makes his own candy (floral) and it's great. He sells CBD gummies (help with sleep, stress relief, anxiety, etc.) I'd definitely have to come back for some candies on one of my cheat day

"I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It's my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now." -Veruca Salt Chocolate, candy, and sweets can bring the inner Veruca Salt out in many of us! My sweet tooth has been building up more and more over the years. Luckily the only golden ticket needed to get into this small candy kingdom is an MTA pass. Eugene J Candy Co is a great little addition to the NE part of Bushwick. Located in a small shop on Wilson that used to house the great pins and patches crew known as Scumbags and Superstars (now in the LES). Hopefully their great neighborhood mojo has been passed on. I mean nothing goes better with Monster Movie greats like some sweet or sour candy and this place is a perfect stop on your way to a double feature at Syndicated Bar & Theater down the street! Although the store is rather small, it packs a punch, a sour patch punch! You can get not only your classic old school candies and holiday needs like peeps for easter but also many gourmet offerings. With options like Ladybug Truffles, Sea Salt Caramels. Speciality chocolates, featuring classic brands like Double Stuff Oreos and Ritz PB Sandwiches and original takes on mints and peanut butter cups. The proprietor seems knowledgeable, young, creative and very friendly and helpful. Theres something great and innocently childlike about going into a candy shop and picking out a sweet for the day. Eugene J Candy Co is helping to keep that ability alive.

Life changing. I love hojicha and I've tried many hojicha lattes across the city but this went way…read morebeyond my expectations and the notes of cardamom and chestnut paired so well the nutty roasted flavor of hojicha. 11/10 Kettl also collabes with rhythm zero! So cool. The seasonal flavors are creative and great quality. There are several matcha selections based on a few different regions of Japan.

Wow, wow, wow. Best authentic, real matcha in NYC!…read more Kettl has always been on my list, and I'm so glad that my husband planned a surprise Matcha tasting to celebrate my birthday last weekend. We went around 1:30 on a Saturday and the tasting counter was empty, but there was a huge line to buy drinks. (It goes by fast so just be patient!) I'm a bit of a Matcha snob, but our barista Annette put my mind at ease. We ordered the sesame cookie, chestnut and persimmon wagashi, and I chose to go with the Premium Uji Matcha. During our tasting, Annette talked to us about the different Matchas and paired our sweets depending on the flavor profile of the different matchas. She used about 2 g of each Matcha and magically whisked them into fluffy, creamy usucha. It was served in this small bowl, which was perfect. I really enjoyed the three different Matcha that I tasted, but the one that stood out to me was the Gokasho Organic Uji Hikari. It was the smoothest Matcha that I've ever had and so I knew I had to take it home with me. I decided to get the seasonal cardamom and chestnut hojicha latte with pistachio milk as per the barista's recommendation. This was the perfect fall cozy drink. They allow you to bring your own cup, which is always a plus in my book. Kettl is transparent about their Matcha. The staff is so lovely and knowledgeable. And the aesthetics are very Japandi and zen here. I left feeling so calm, happy, and energized after my visit. And I can't wait to come back! 10/10 experience!
