Wow! I am so impressed with Ethan's and their honesty and professionalism. I emailed them Monday and by Tuesday morning we were able to set up a visit that same morning! Scott came by on time and assessed the issue very quickly. As it turned out, the issue was not the plumbing or pipes but rather the caulking around the sink. Water was seeping thru the old caulking so there was no plumbing to repair. As a result, there was no charge for the visit! I offered to at least pay for gas but they refused. They even gave me a couple of referrals to fix my sink. If their honesty and professionalism from this service call is indicative of the type of business they run and work, I am sure to call them again in the future. Just as an FYI, I got referred to them from a friend who's lived in Alameda for over 40 years so she knows who's really good at their work and I trust her. I was not let down. Apparently doesn't want more business. I called him and spoke to him on the phone about my clogged washing machine drain pipe. He said he wouldn't be able to get to me until after Thanksgiving, but to send an email with the details, which I did immediately after talking to him on November 13. I didn't get a reply to my email. so I sent a text on November 19 to ask that he confirm that he got my email. Nothing. The week after Thanksgiving I left a voice message about when he would be scheduling my job. Nothing. I finally contacted AT Weber. Not only did they respond within hours, they apologized for not being able to come until two days later -- which since I had waited two weeks to even hear back from Ethan -- and I still haven't heard back three weeks later -- was nothing! This plummer was recommended by a local hardware store. We thought that this would mean a solid and responsive professional. We called Ethan Elkin Plumbing four times for an urgent sewer backup problem at our house. Each time we called, we gave a detailed explanation of our problem and marked our messages as 'urgent'. This person did not even have the common courtesy of returning our calls, leaving us in the air waiting. He is a great disappointment, very unresponsive, uncaring and unprofessional. We reported this experience to the hardware store and advised them to not give out Ethan's name anymore since this person's actions would certainly reflect on the reputation of the hardware store.
