This is an overdue review for Jose. He is awesome! My old gas-powered water heater died on a Sunday night 10 days before I was going on vacation. He called me within 2 hours and made sure that it wasn't an emergency, as a weekend plumbing emergency would've been an extra charge. He then came out at 9 AM Monday morning and determined that the heater was end-of-life and needed replacement. He also advised me to add a bottom water pan to comply with current Alameda city requirements for water heaters. I could live without running hot water for another day, so we made arrangements to do the replacement the next day with a similar heater model. He quickly switched out the units, did all the necessary modifications, and then did a nice cleanup job. In less than 48 hours, I had a brand new heater good for 10-15 years and hot water again. When the city inspector came over to approve it, he said it looked great. Thanks again, Jose! I will definitely contact Jim Bustos Plumbing for any plumbing service that my house needs. read more

I had a leaky shower door, so I called them to come fix it. The workmen showed up on time and proceeded to remove the old caulk and re-caulk it. They left, and a few hours later I took a look at the shower door to see huge gaps between it and the tub. I called them back, and spoke to Eric Bustos. For some unfathomable reason he kept going on and on about how to re-caulk a shower, and what his guys had to do. All I kept asking for was a shower that didn't leak. Eventually he sent the guys back to finish the job, and they seemed to do so. 2 days later it started leaking again. We called back and they said they'd call and send someone over between 8 and noon the next day. I waited until 11:30 and when I didn't hear from them I called them for an update and was told that the appointment hadn't been scheduled. The nice lady on the phone called me back to let me know that she'd spoken with Eric Bustos (company president) and since they'd been there twice already there's nothing they can do to fix it so they're not going to come out and patch the small bit that's still leaking. This after they told us yesterday that they would. If a company doesn't feel capable of performing a job, they shouldn't do it and then tell the customer why it was done badly and refuse to fix it. read more

Our tenants contacted us and told us the garbage disposal was leaking. We had them our plumber, Jim Busto's. That was February 2010. We did a walk through when our tenants moved our at the end of November and told us that the new garbage disposal was leaking. My husband looked at it and discovered that the three screws were missing. I called them and they sent out two guys. There was some interesting conversation between the two. We had them remove and reset the disposal and add the screws. They tried to present us with a $115 bill for fixing their problem. They told us that we would have to talk to Eric. I called and he was on the phone and asked to be called back. My husband called and asked for a call back. Eric never returned our calls. We have extensive water damage to our subfloor due to the disposal leaking. I guess they don't need our business anymore. read more

I deal with Bustos on an ongoing basis to provide repair services for the 200 plus units I manage. I would not use any other company. The level of professionalism and service is incomparable to any other company I have worked with. The office manager Chris is amazing and always goes out of her way to make sure she can accommodate our needs. They are very reasonable and fair when it comes to billing. The plumbers (particularly Robert and Brian) are amazing. I always joke that they should have their own show on A&E called Extreme Plumbers. This past week in the crawl space of my rental unit in Alameda I discovered a burst drain pipe with the resulting considerable standing water. I called Jim Bustos Plumbing about 10am of that morning and got a return call within the hour. That afternoon they were under the house surveying the situation and what was needed. First thing next morning they were back and by late morning had repaired the problem. I wouldn't think of calling any other plumbing service. This company was recommended by our realtor and they looked pretty good on Yelp. We had a positive experience with the first plumber Eric who hooked up our washer and dryer. However, we had terrible experiences the next two times we had them come over. The previous plumber was not available when we needed our touch kitchen faucet fixed and the second plumber who came was not very trustworthy. Not only did he not fix our faucet, he reinstalled the air gap (the "emergency" valve from the dishwasher in case it overflows) improperly so it leaked water onto our counter every time we ran the dishwasher. To add insult, he claimed there was a flat fee and tried to charge us more than the first plumber for less work. Luckily we had the old work order handy and he quickly changed the overcharge. After we found out the air gap kept leaking, we scheduled a third appointment with them and a third plumber came and fixed the air gap at no charge (although initially he tried to claim that it was broken-- we had to insist that we never had this problem before their plumber reinstalled it so it was their fault if the equipment is broken now; it was not broken and works fine now). He took a look at the kitchen faucet again and said that we had to order a new part for the touch feature to work properly and could not set it to just work manually. We didn't want to deal with the touch faucet anymore, bought a new kitchen faucet that we really like, and had a different company install it. This other company was efficient and knowledgable and our new faucet looks and works great. However, they also walked us through how to set the old touch faucet on manual bypass-- it took less than five minutes. read more

With a bathroom out of service, I was able to get an appointment scheduled the same day to replace a shut off valve and supply line, and reset my toilet. Robert was quick and courteous. He also provided good priced estimates for water heater replacement and installation of a gas line in my kitchen. I look forward to contacting them to proceed with those projects soon. read more

We've used Bustos for every plumbing and gas need in two houses for many years. We recently did a remodel and the contractor only subs with another well-known plumber. Huge difference in service and skill level, and a great reminder what a gem we have in Bustos. Unfortunately for us (fortunately for their families), they don't take weekend/night calls. The rooter guys only want to sell me trenchless sewer lines for thousands of dollars, and apparently aren't interested in crawling around under my old house to fix a broken 101 year old cast iron pipe. Based on what needed, clogged toilet. It is hard to get a recommended plumber on short notice. Some make non emergency appointments (we had another bathroom working) several days in advance. They asked me a few questions to diagnose, fitted me in between other jobs. Snaked the 30 feet of the line, were in and out in less than an hour with a reasonable charge. Told me to not dispose of dental floss in the toilet. We're neat and professional. read more
