I worked with Madi Amaral at the San Jose Ethan Allen store. I was replacing a couch, love seat, ottoman, and rug. This was a major purchase for me, so I wanted good quality products and helpful support in making my choices. I got both. :) First, when making a major purchase, it was invaluable to be able to go to the store and see the furniture items, rug options, and fabric choices. Online shopping is not a substitute for seeing these things in person. The San Jose store is large and has much on display, so I could be confident in the choices I made. They also allow you to check out fabric and rug swatches, so you can see how they look in your room. Madi knows the products and fabrics well. For example, she pointed out that one of the fabrics I was considering has little "pills" built into it. She said that some people like it and others do not. I did not, so thank goodness she pointed it out! Second, Madi has a good eye, but she always defaulted to the furniture being for my home and needing to be to my taste. Madi explained variations across items (such as seat depths available with different couches). She helped select fabric options and was clear about pros and cons of various fabrics. Madi was patient as I took swatches home and returned them over the course of several days. I did not feel pressured; instead, I felt supported in making a good decision about furniture I will (hopefully) have for years. Third, Ethan Allen quality remains high. I had my last Ethan Allen couch for 20 years! When my new furniture was delivered, I carefully inspected it. Not only was there not a stitch out of place, the fabricators had carefully cut patterned fabric so that it was the same across multiple cushions and the pattern lined up from the top of the cushion to the sides. Fourth, the delivery team worked with me and was very helpful. My furniture arrived fairly quickly, but I was out of town when the delivery team would be in my area. My schedule was tricky, so the team worked with me to get my furniture delivered on a day they would be in another nearby area, so I didn't have to wait several more weeks. Ethan Allen manufactures quality furniture that lasts, with the upholstered furniture and some rugs being customizable. Madi was wonderful to work with and has excellent taste. She looks at furniture all the time, so she has ideas I would never have considered, but absolutely looks great. The Ethan Allen experience requires a brick and mortar location and I highly recommend the Madi and the San Jose location. read more

Wow, I tried to purchase a side table on sale for $498 (originally $585), and they wanted to charge a white glove service fee of $150. I called the closest store to have it delivered to the store for pick up, but they refused to do this and added they would still have to charge for the white glove service fee. Aside from this, I only ran across this one item when receiving a random, (sadly) unsolicited catalog in the mail. When I looked up their website, my first impression was "dated" - it felt like images taken from my parents' home, who are now in their 90s. -- Now, I realize why I have not heard much of them. I failed to look up their reviews online before finding this side table and going through the shock of mandatory white glove service for a no-assembly required piece. I have always love Ethan Allen, the sales team was great, but the problem came when I was told that I would receive my furniture in November well November arrived I received a call from the warehouse stating the part of the furniture was ready (ottoman) and the rest of it would be delivered by 23 November. I called to find out what was happening and why hadn't I been informed as to what was going on, now it supposed to arrive in December Really unprofessional now if I choose to cancel, I will lose 2000.00 plus dollars, but I don't see where they will credit me or cancel and refund because of their failure to produce the furniture in a timely manner and failure to notify me of the long delay. My Ethan Allen sofa is a total disaster. Every little thing leaves a stain that is not removable from this cotton/linen look sofa. Seat backs cannot be removed even though there are zippers due to tufted backs. It isn't level. Seats slant towards the front. The worst part is that all the legs are falling off and customer service states that they cannot be replaced. They have a very unusual design that embeds them into the frame. This is the worst Ethan Allen store. I have given them Lots of business... the last sofa delivered was a mess. It showed up with flat back cushions & throw pillows that hav what's sticky spots. The sofa looks 5 years old. No customer service. It was denied straight out of the gate and not one rep came to look at it. No calls were returned from customer service. Numerous attempts and nothing. They absolutely do not care. I worked there years ago and have tried to continue to support the designers there... unfortunately the owners and management office- including customer service do not support or back up their staff... Frieda is AWESOME. Went in and was able to have everything picked out in less than 2 hours. She came to my house first to see the space and I knew exactly what I was looking for as I already have beautiful stuff from EA. Was working with a high end designer who was super super slow. Got frustrated and decided to go get everything at EA. We are 2nd gen shoppers here on both sides of our families plus our first Bennet in brown is still going strong after 19 years and two boys. We LOVE our new stuff - looks great in our new home and EA's quality is second to none. Install also was high end and Ryan ans his team were careful and particular. I will always buy furniture here bc it lasts forever and is timeless. Don't go to those disposable furniture places! The staff helping us were the best and it didn't take months like it was before with a solo designer. Very grateful to still have EA in the area. Definitely recommend anyone shopping for furniture to go here bc of the quality and look. read more

Honestly, I haven't gotten much furniture from Ethan Allen lately. But all my furniture from them is still in great condition. We have had these furnitures for over 20 years. They are very very sturdy and very very classy. My king size bed has been moved taken apart and reinstalled over 3 times as we moved from house to hOuse. They don't squeak. They still fasten well. All the wood furniture paint is still like new. We still have couple sofas ottoman coffee tables night stand and several chests. My next house I want more Ethan Allen furnitures. *Update 12/10/11* *Like some other reviewers we received the wrong order. The furniture took almost 7 full months to arrive. It is not worth the wait. I also can't believe after 7 months that they gave us the least expensive version of what we ordered. I went in today to speak with the manager and the receptionist told me to come back on Monday. Didn't even offer to take a message but I said I wanted to leave one. After my long disappointing experience with this location and the other reviews I am not optimistic but we shall see. It seems like a huge hassle to wait another 7 months to get the correct item so hopefully this store is merely slow and not intentionally shady and will refund us the difference. Sherry the woman who was our salesperson "is no longer with the store" as of 5 months ago. * LOL. I should have read these reviews first before we ordered. DO NOT BUY DURING ETHAN ALLEN SALES! Again - THE DELIVERY OF ALL OF JANUARY'S SALES WERE DELAYED. There was only 1 upholstered item we ordered and it was done in the standard in-stock fabric shown on the floor room model, so the excuse I was given by an Ethan Allen employee that 'it might have been delayed depending on if they have the fabric in stock' doesn't make sense. Ethan Allen, either this location or in general seems very confused and unorganized. They are supposed to call you to keep you updated on status but I had to call repeatedly. I updated my contact phone number with them twice - once with a salesperson and once via voice mail. But they kept using the old number. I wasn't able to reach the original salesperon (Sherry) but spoke to 2 different sales people to check the status. Sherry must have gotten a note to call back but when she did she left a message saying there was 'no customer by that name' so she couldn't find the order. LOL. Finally got it cleared up after I called the delivery number a second time. There is a message on their answering machine "It will take us a while to get back to you" HAHAHA. I'm not kidding. I'm also not sure why they aren't able to update my phone number to the correct one after I tell them multiple times. Ethan Allen furniture is alright but is it worth the cost and the wait? I have ordered similar style and quality furniture for less from Crate and Barrel and got it in the 2 weeks that were estimated. I agree with the other reviewer who says Ethan Allen is a good point to start for inspiration but otherwise not worth the price. For the price at Ethan Allen you should at least get decent customer service. I was handling this order for my parents who have also bought furniture from Thomasville without the issues that Ethan Allen has. Even Crate and Barrel and CB2 has always been very helpful, timely, and responsive. I would not shop at Ethan Allen, this location or elsewhere. The quality of the furniture is superb there is no furniture store has this & the price is pretty compatible to other furniture store if you catch their sale but when it comes to service it beats the other stores by far. We were assigned a designer (Dawn) that came to our house measured everything helped us with the arrangement & fabric selection. Then I just decided to go with the brand that I'm familiar with. I reached out to Behnaz and she took care of my order right away. It was quite quick and painless. Ethan Allen is definitely a good quality furniture company, but it was such a bummer that there weren't that many modern-contemporary furniture to see at the store. Majority of the furnitures in the showrooms were contemporary-traditional style, but they do have more for you to see through their catalogs and website. I can't recall the designer staff's name who helped us. But she was delightful and easy to talk to. After asking us what we're looking for, she took us to all the furnitures that she believed were suitable for our taste. Unfortunately there wasn't one that caught our attention, but we did sit down and browsed through the catalogs together. What's super great about Ethan Allen is their free design service. As long as you know how much you will be spending at Ethan Allen, and how costly it may get... Their designer will help you find just the right pieces for your living space. They will come to the site to make measurements and guide you to how to place your furnitures. read more

A quality service from a business would not be reflected from a simple easy transaction. The real service often would be shown in case there are matters need to be resolved and the way how the business cares to resolve it. In my case, this business demonstrates absolutely the lowest grade customer service capability. In my case, the designer designed a wrong piece for my living room. We agreed to have 5 piece furniture living room design. 1 sofa, 1 coffee table, 1 side table, 2 different chairs and the designer designed the fabrics and the furniture style according to my liking (light yellow fabric, country french white furniture). One of the chair designer picked is totally different color, different style and the designer insisted it is going to be beautiful. But it turns out it is not. The chair is wrong color (does not blend with the rest of furniture), wrong style (only piece in modern while other 4 look country french), wrong height (the floor sample being sat for 2 years, it is much lower than the new piece, EA shoppers, be aware!) The store tried to resolve the issue by asking me to BUY more stuff to fix the design (throw in more pillows with better color tune on the chair and add a carpet to tie in the color). This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable. Otherwise they will charge me 30% restocking fee as they think it is not their fault to sell me a chair which does not fit my height. They think it is ok for me to sit in a chair which I can't touch the ground for 2 or more years to get the chair lower. They think it is ok for me to risk my health sitting in a unfitted chair. Just purchased a couch from here with my mom over the weekend. She already came in previously and knew what she was going to get. The ladies were overall informative and knowledgeable of their stuff. It was a pretty fast process since my mom already did the shopping prior to this visit. I forgot the name of the lady who helped us but she was an Iranian lady who grew up in Germany.. lol that's all I remember about her. I came here based on vague memories from my childhood, browsing and picking out furniture for my room with my mom and grandma. My experience was a little strange at first, much like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman but less intense. When I said I was looking at beds, the girl at the front scoffed at me and asked if I had an appointment. I'm sorry but it was news to me that I needed an appointment to buy furniture. I'm a consumer and its a recession, buzz off. I get it, I came in looking pretty scrubby and she probably didn't think I was capable of purchasing their fine furniture, but that was a "big mistake. Huge." Anyway, front desk girl aside Freida helped me pick out and order a custom bed frame on the spot. With her diligence and magic my bed arrived 6 weeks earlier than I expect and that worked out pretty perfect with my moving schedule. The bed was delivered and constructed (by the delivery men) in less than 20 minutes and they did a great job respecting my home. Now that my bed has arrived I can attest to the quality of the product. I definitely plan on purchasing more goodies from this establishment. Bravo, Frieda! read more

This set has been fading every year and becoming yellower since then. My other furniture in the same room have not change colors and stayed the same finish and color. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the professionalism, knowledge and approachability of Pia Gayatinea, Design Consultant. I had purchased Ethan Allen furniture over 32 years ago and was so impressed with it's style and durability that I drove in to their showroom 60 miles from home. I was greeted as I walked in and introduced to Pia. She was friendly and invited me to talk about what I had in mind. She also reviewed my photos of my family room, color schemes and general feel of our room. In going through fabrics and usage, she helped me choose the perfect color that would incorporate my current color scheme but also pull in my other furniture, wall color, rocked fireplace and area rug colors! Worst customer service ever!!!!!! Do not purchase at this store, they were quick to take my order and my money but they do not take my calls about the status of my order. Not only that, I was told to call corporate and corporate told me to call back the SJ store; in summary, I've been given the round around. My husband and I are repeat customers, we have not complains about our designer Polin (who is no longer at the store) but the administrative handling and follow up of the orders. We have been looking for lamps for almost as long as I can remember. We bought lamps and returned them from high-end lighting and furniture stores and lower-end retailers. No matter what we selected they never looked right. Two weeks ago we stopped at Ethan Allen and, not surprising, we had the same experience. Then a miracle happened. We met Maggie Allen (no, she is not a relative to Ethan Allen) one of Etha Allen's design consultants. Maggie not only made suggestions but later in the week she brought the lamps to our house so we could see how they looked in place in three different rooms. We now have six new lamps that we love. Maggie is not afraid to give her opinion as she explains why she is making a suggestion and a great asset to Ethan Allen. read more

Nothing but great things to say about Ethan Allen & Frieda! I met Frieda last May and she got an idea of what I liked as we walked around the showroom. She came to my house to measure. I ordered and received my furniture a week earlier than expected. I had one issue with a stool but it was remedied quickly. I ordered 4 stools, 3 couches, 3 ottomans, 3 tables, 1 rug and a custom cushion for a window seating area. I'm getting ready to start my bedroom so I need to call Freida again! read more

I talked to the store manager and he just claim that the store policy does not allow and quickly HANG OVER MY PHONE. Never again. The sofa we purchased was poorly constructed and the store is not the least bit responsive. The back cushions are overstuffed to the point of being uncomfortable. I was told to "break them in". The covers won't stay in place on the seat cushions and are impossible to put back in place. The side pillows keep discharging sharp-pointed feathers and I was told this was "normal". The corporate office says this store is independently operated. The store managers won't even return calls.
