The girl at the bar was so rude it honestly felt like she didn't want to serve us -- or even have us there at all. We waited about an hour for a table, only to find out that the "welcoming" host somehow couldn't find my phone number... even though I literally saw it on her screen. Impressive. It seems our table was generously given to someone else instead of, you know, actually calling us. We arrived at 7:00 PM, got seated at 8:15, and our food showed up around 9:00 PM -- so if you enjoy long-term commitments, you'll love their service speed. I came here for happy hour with a friend. It's in a great location, right on the beach with ocean views. We sat at the outdoor bar. They have a list of approximately 8 cocktails and wine/beer for happy hour. I had their Japanese style margarita, which was smooth. My friend had the non-alcoholic Etaru breeze, which is a sparkling lemonade with a twist, not sure what the twist ingredient is. They have limited food items on the HH menu. They have two bars one outside and one inside. We sat outside a little cool, but the views are beautiful. The ocean is right in front of you . The food was Pretty tast my . By atmosphere, I mean they didn't have the AC on inside and the humidity was outrageous as you can expect in Florida. At the very least, they could have had some fans going to circulate the air. I started with the Lychee Blossom Cocktail which was light, sweet, and easy to sip on during the meal. The lychee wasn't as strong or prominent as I prefer. The Oysters were super fresh but I couldn't appreciate them much because of the amount of ponzu overpowering each bite. When the Japanese Crispy Chicken came out, I wasn't expecting it to be topped with the sweet chili sauce which immediately made the crispy chicken soggy. The chicken itself was also chewy and not easy to cut or bite into. Up until this point, it was a solid 3/5. Thankfully, it was all up hill from here. All 3 sushi rolls were super fresh with great textures and flavors. The Black Cod had that sweet, savory, slightly smoky, and umami flavors I enjoyed and the steamed white rice paired so well with it. Considering the quality and flavors, my true rating is a 3.5/5 but I'll round up. It's a bit overpriced and overhyped but a decent option for the area. This place was so cute and so yummy. Went in for brunch. They have a brunch buffet that comes with drinks. I'm not sure if they have an a la cart menu for brunch or if the buffet was the only option. But if you go, you have to get the buffet. The selection was plentiful and it wasn't super busy so not everything was picked over. With the buffet does come some meals that are prepared in the kitchen and served as regular entrees. We had salmon and a steak. Then a dessert platter to end it all. Will be back! read more

Had a lovely Sunday brunch at Etaru. We sat outside and enjoyed views of the beach. The included cocktails were lovely to both look at and drink. The menu was a perfect balance of sushi and cooked dishes, both served table side by the waitress and self serve buffet inside. We upgraded our mains to lamb chops, steak, and sea bass. The environment ambience is well done. The service was prompt, and the tables were well set. Excellent selection of Japanese whiskeys and sakes. Finally a restaurant that understands salted edamame, well done. We had the yellowtail and salmon maki and both were extremely fresh and crisp. Extremely Disappointing New Year's Eve Experience I rarely, if ever, write reviews -- but our New Year's Eve experience at Etaru Hallandale truly deserves to be shared. We had a reservation for a party of 6 at 10:30 PM, made months in advance, after hearing repeatedly that this was the place to be for New Year's Eve. The restaurant was completely booked, so we felt lucky and excited to have secured a table. Earlier that day, my husband even stopped by the restaurant in person to confirm that we would be seated inside, as requested. He was told they "didn't know yet" where our table would be -- which already felt concerning, but we stayed optimistic. We arrived on time for our reservation, only to be told that our table was not ready and that we would have to wait -- and then informed we would be seated outside, despite our indoor reservation. From that point on, everything went downhill. The staff was dismissive and unhelpful, and service was almost nonexistent. After finally being seated, we were essentially ignored. Our food arrived extremely late, dangerously close to midnight, which completely defeated the purpose of a New Year's celebration. The entire evening felt disorganized, chaotic, and poorly managed -- the opposite of what you expect from a restaurant of this caliber, especially on such an important night. What made this even more disappointing is that we have dined at Etaru many times in the past for both lunch and dinner and have never had an experience like this. This was not just a bad night -- it was a complete failure in planning, communication, and guest experience. New Year's Eve is not a night you get a "do-over," and unfortunately, Etaru wasted ours. read more

A little disappointed in the lunch menu, being that the BEST rolls aren't involved.. the service was great, our waiter kept it real with us about the guacamole not having any "Asian fusion" to it. Price is $$$ over the top for waiting in a great environment. It's a shame to see such an amazing space go un-utilized in that way but it would take the right team, and a good one, to run three pillars at that level. read more

Great place to enjoy brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The view of the ocean provides a lovely backdrop to bottomless wine. We came here with an obnoxiously large party and had one waiter assigned to us. He did a phenomenal job of keeping up with everyone. The brunch has an open buffet of a couple of sushi rolls and other dishes. We also were able to order an entree as part of the brunch special. July 16th, 7.30pm We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had made a reservation days in advance and were told over the phone they'd try to seat us by the water. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. Things started off with valet parking -- or rather, the lack of it. For $20, I would expect at least a minimal level of service. The valet didn't approach us; we had to go to him to figure out what was going on. He then casually mentioned the price and vaguely waved toward a group of parked cars, essentially telling us to park the car ourselves. I'm sorry, but when valet service is offered, I don't expect to be parking my own car. That set the tone for the evening. Inside the restaurant, we saw a couple of open waterfront tables and hoped one was for us. But the host (who also turned out to be the manager) told us they were already reserved - even though we also had a reservation and had specifically requested a water view. He was dismissive and spoke to us in a rude, unpleasant tone, despite knowing it was a birthday celebration. Can't comment on the food because the service already left a bad impression. We left the restaurant completely disheartened by the service and the way we were treated. Suggestions: Train your staff, especially managers. And it's better to let your customers know that tables by the water can't actually be reserved (well I guess they can be reserved just not by everyone). That way, their expectations will be realistic and they won't end up disappointed. read more

I'm so sad to say that after coming to this restaurant for 6 years and I absolutely LOVED all my experiences here, this last visit was by far one of the worst I've had in a while. Service was very slow. It seemed as though the waiters honestly didn't want to be there. The only person who seemed to care was ONE food runner/bus boy. There were food items from the buffet that were ICE COLD. My entree literally took over 40 minutes to come out.....AFTER my guests entree came out. Both were fired at the SAME time but my item which was just a ribeye steak and took forever to come out as the chefs just sat there. Spoke with the manager and let him know that we've been here before and that I've noticed a decline in service and they didn't do anything about it. Honestly it's just disappointing. I had higher expectations for an establishment that I have loved and respected for a very long time. But was not met with the same level of respect or enthusiasm and appreciation. One of the worst dining experiences of our lives -- and on New Year's Eve no less. We made a reservation well in advance for a table inside the main dining room for New Year's Eve at Etaru. When we arrived to check in at 9:00 PM, the hostess casually informed us that there were no indoor tables available. We were then told that guests who arrived earlier were allowed to choose indoor seating on a first-come, first-serve basis -- completely defeating the purpose of having a reservation at all. After going back and forth and questioning why our confirmed reservation meant nothing, the hostess escalated the situation by threatening to call security on us. Only after this confrontation were we grudgingly given a tiny, cramped table inside, clearly not what we had reserved or paid for. From there, things only went downhill. We waited over 2.5 HOURS before water even touched our table. Yes, the restaurant was busy -- but that is not an excuse. Etaru was visibly overbooked, understaffed, and run by people who appeared completely unqualified to manage a high-end New Year's Eve service. We explicitly informed the restaurant at the time of booking AND again at seating that members of our party do not eat pork. This was clearly acknowledged. At 11:30 PM, after waiting most of the night, food finally arrived. The yellowtail was slimy and clearly not fresh, and despite our clear dietary restriction, the kitchen sent pork dumplings that were supposed to be substituted with a vegetable option. Some of our guests unknowingly ate them. That was the breaking point. We asked for a manager, who came to the table completely unapologetic, dismissive, and indifferent to the seriousness of serving prohibited food to guests. The complete disregard for dietary restrictions is not just bad hospitality -- it is potentially dangerous and, in many jurisdictions, a violation of basic consumer protection and food service standards. Instead of taking accountability, the manager asked us to leave the restaurant right before the New Year's countdown, effectively ejecting us moments before midnight. Security was called and stood over our table until we left -- an absolutely humiliating end to what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. Etaru is a disgusting establishment that clearly has no grasp on hospitality, guest safety, or basic restaurant management. Guests should not be treated as learning pawns while management figures out how to operate during a major event. This restaurant was blatantly unprepared and irresponsibly overbooked, and they took it out on paying patrons. This experience was shocking, disappointing, and unacceptable. I strongly advise anyone considering Etaru -- especially for a special occasion -- to think twice before giving this place your time or money. read more

A few days later, received a ticket in the mail because the valet illegally parked our car while we were eating dinner at the restaurant. Ended up cost us an additional $85 to pay for the ticket.
