In October of 2019, we purchased a home in Denver, NC. Before we purchased the home, I personally…read morechecked the heating and cooling system and these units operated in optimal working order. Before we moved in, I had our general contractor make arrangements for a local HVAC company to come to the home to inspect our units for our peace of mind. My contractor contacted Henson Mechanical of Denver, NC for service. A Henson technician came out to inspect our units. After the inspection, the tech cited a long list of problems with one of my units followed by a recommendation for the replacement of that AC unit. Below are copies of Henson recommendation and estimate: After the service call from Henson, one of the AC units started to shutdown automatically within a few minutes of starting. I then call another local HVAC company in Denver for a second opinion. Their technician was honest and extremely bright. Upon his inspection of the circuitry board on my AC unit, he discovered a test strip was left attached to my unit. As it was explained to me, a "test strip" is a rubber strip placed in two specific locations on in the circuitry board to simulate a fault condition triggering an automatic shutdown of the unit. HVAC technicians test the automatic shutdown function to ensure it proper working order so that if the unit was to experience a serious fault, it would automatically shutoff to save the unit from damage. I believe this test strip was purposely left on my AC unit only to force me to purchase a new unit. Henson also informed me that I had a evaporator coil leak. Upon further inspection from the other HVAC company, it was discovered that Mylar seal had not been broken only to indicate that the no access was ever made for a proper inspection. Henson also quoted me for a replacement for the duct work for my HVAC. The tech from the other HVAC told me he saw no serious issues with my duct work. Before I wrote this review, I called Henson Mechanical 5 times to afford them a fair opportunity to explain themselves to correct any misconceptions or errors I had made in my assessment. When I called them, I asked the receptionist to speak to the owner(s) or the tech Henson sent to my home. It's been over 4 months I still yet have not heard back from Henson for an plausible explanation. I gave them one last opportunity yesterday to call me back and I still haven't heard back. At this point I will have to presume that my assessment of Henson's Mechanical is accurate and Henson's Mechanical was operating in an unethical manner. The company that serviced my HVAC after Henson's charged me $160.00 to inspect my unit and remove the test strip left by Henson's versus $9100 that Henson's wanted to charge me for a complete HVAC replacement. I do not recommend Henson Mechanical for any service needs.

My home warranty company sent Comfort out to replace the evaporator coil on a one year old AC…read moresystem. That means cut off the old coil and solder a new coil to it. Comfort reported that they had to "modify" my system which is not covered by warranty so I had to pay them directly more money. When I spoke to the warranty company and explained there was no "modification" but a simple remove and install they agreed there should be no charge. When they contacted Comfort the owner would not talk to them and relayed through the office staff that they didn't want to do the job anymore. They got caught, picked up their marbles and went home. So this Zoning option upsold by the so called Comfort specialist Marco was a complete money grab and it was like throwing down money down the drain and into the coffers of John Adams. The extra work and the delay in installation was because of change in furnace a decision made by Adams based on non availability of the agreed upon unit at the time of install and the lack of accurate measurements by their comfort specialist - Marco-- all of which was their fault. They could have pre ordered the agreed upon unit or measured the attic space correctly. Somehow Adams takes pride in extra work they did which was a direct result of their own incompetence and lack of due diligence before the installation. I was never happy with the delay and was livid during installation and had expressed my frustration to Marco and installation team and even spoke with the service manager and expressed my displeasure the day of the installation as we had to sleep in the home without a functioning AC . So Adams and their installation team could not fit the unit in the attic space since they didn't know how much space was required for the unit and who was responsible for measuring the Attic space prior to install - one MARCO FERREIRA !! This is like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand was doing.. If Marco had measured the Attic space correctly than the delay would have not happened and also there was no need to reconfigure the attic space and extra work Adams seems to take a misplaced sense of pride.. So you don't do the due diligence and prep work and that causes the delay and result in doing the extra work and customer not having a functioning AC overnight and somehow the business takes pride in this botched installation.. Bravo !! So Marco or team who is responding to the review conveniently leaves out the detail about not measuring correctly the attic space and prep work that could have prevented the extra work and delay all of which was their own fault and doing... They also overcharge way more than average price for their service contracts and find certain parts such as Air Switches etc that needs to be replaced and overcharge for the installation. We had an emergency and our unit wasn't working, so I searched for 24 hr companies to come out because it was late and the other company's technician was dramatic and shady, telling us things were far worse than they were, was dishonest, and tried to get us to sign up for their subscription before even coming out and then wanted to sell us a $15-$20K replacement unit, which we didn't even need yet. We will ONLY trust Hodge and learned that you can call after hours and if they are available will come out because someone is on call and if not, you will be put into the queue for first thing the next morning. However, this is the second time in a couple of years when I reach out during summer, and no one is answering the phone. They supposed to be open from 7:30am today. I reached out on the phone line four times since this morning, left a voicemail, then a few hours later a callback number and nothing back. I am wondering if they are out of town 3 days before 4th of July and they are not making it public. I would much rather know that they are not available and on vacation than expecting them to call back. Their voicemail is misleading.
