Their chicken tacos and hot salsa are my favorite. I eat the same exact thing every damn time because they are so good! My kids think they have the best quesadillas and French fries and also love the gumball machine on their way out to solidify their experience. Try their chicken tacos, you wont regret it!! read more

This used to be one of my absolute FAVORITE taco spots! I'm talking YEARS ago, like 2010 or so. Big fat delicious tacos with SO MUCH CHEESE. Guacamole was delicious. My mom would grab some on the way home from work and we were so excited for tacos. I had been CRAVIN this. I needed to get back! So I did. I went back. First, we sat down and were greeted by a server carrying a basket of chips and some salsa. She approached us with the chips and asked if we wanted any. Well of course! I always take complementary chips and salsa when I dine out. We quickly ordered our drinks and a couple of tacos. Oh man. I was not prepared for the level of disappointment I was about to experience. The chicken inside the tacos tasted dry, perhaps over cooked, or sitting in a warming try for too long. The tomato looked past its prime. It was hiding in the bottom of the taco under all the toppings. The cheese mound was there as I had remembered, but it just felt like too much today. I brushed off a lot of it. There was a good half cup of cheese used! Such a waste. The salsa was not good. It was somewhere between chunky and sort of blended but it made the tomatoes look soupy. Unappetizing. We ate then asked for the check. Imagine my surprise when I saw that we PAID for this basket of chips that were OFFERED to me. Try this; instead of this bait and switch tactic, either do not offer chips and salsa (but ask if the table would like any appetizers to get started) or just say right out that the chips and salsa cost whatever amount. Thankfully they were cheap so it wasn't a big deal, but I found it pretty scummy to sneak that in the way they did. Food was not good. Horchata tasted pre-made (not sure if it is fresh or not). I paid $9.50 for 2 tacos that do NOT live up to that price. I wanted to relive my fond memories but it feels like food quality has dropped so much. I don't think I will be coming back. read more

Went to Esther's Taco House Friday. My brother and I ordered two wet burritos and two large beers for lunch. The bill came to $64.00 without tip. I think one beer was like $13.00. The server dropped off the meal and never came back, except to collect. I couldn't believe it, Can you imagine what you can get at dinner for $64.00? A few days later I was at BJ's in Anaheim Hills during happy hour. I had two beers and a individual pizza for around $20.00. The food is good, but sadly we will not be back. For $10.00 I can go to Del Taco and get the macho combo burrito and bring a can of beer for a little over $10.00. Must be nice to be rich. read more

Chile Verde burrito (wet) is exactly the same as in 1970's when in Downey. The taste brought back wonderful memories of the small counter & few tables surrounded by the aromas that only Esther herself created & produced. Staff & server were outstanding. Well worth our drive from HB or wherever you live if you're chasing the taste & quality of times gone past...hidden, down that long industrial alley on Woodruff. Good to see that not everything has changed with the times. Can't wait to return soon. It was an awesome experience to return to. read more

Gave it a try for the 2nd time and was very disappointed. The carne asada taco was not carne asada but was ground beef and lacked a lot of flavor. The kids chicken and French fries had a ton of a red seasoning in it that ruined the whole meal. I was really hoping for a better experience for easy meals. Great service, excellent food. I especially loved the grilled fajita salad and their tamales are very unique and delicious.

Their wait staff was wonderful & accommodating. I got just one beef & one shredded chicken taco a la carte, that totaled $12. The tacos are stuffed inside with plenty of fresh Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, a tomato and meat. The shredded chicken taco had a brown breaded coating which looked unusual. The hard shell did not have that tender soft crunch that I'm use to. Two of their basic tacos for $12, I felt may be priced pretty high. read more

Average Mexican food. Tacos were okay with the fajita chicken being far better than the dry and flavorless carne asada. The margaritas tasted fine, but I don't think there was any tequila in them. Service was good. This was our first time here, and I don't think we will be back. read more

The food was great. Best rice I have in a long time the chili relleno was flavorful lots of cheese. The service was excellent even with them being so busy ALL the employees were working hard and were very upbeat. Was well worth the drive in from Riverside. They are known for their crispy tacos and my chicken taco with a crispy corn shell was the best thing I ate here. The chips, though greasy, and spicy salsa were also very good. Our server didn't bring us the guacamole we ordered, but that's also okay because it didn't appear on our bill at the end. The food IS well-priced and the atmosphere was fun and lively; my guess is that's what people come for. Excellent, authentic Mexican food? Not so much. Fun and lively Tex-Mex style tacos? This place would've been a four stars if we didn't get the wings. The wings were really dry and did not have any flavor. :( Also, the service was kinda slow on a Tuesday. We went at around 8:30 and it took a while to place our orders. When we got there it was still fairly busy, luckily we found a few seats at the counter top and just sat ourselves. We decided to come here during taco Tuesday. And we noticed that each taco was 2.5 and opted against it. Not sure why tacos were 2.5 dollars on a Tuesday. However I'm very happy they had happy hour during Tuesday night. We ended up getting the small nachos, flautas and the wings. The best time to get is definitely the nachos. The small one was filling enough. The cool thing is that they pack the nachos with a lot of toppings... And it also comes with your choice of meats. The flautas came with their own guac. The wings are skippable... They provide chips and salsa when you first sit down. I think I'll be back if I want cheap eats during a Tuesday night. read more

Yes I had me Esther's Taco. Some would say it was a bit sloppy, but I call it very juicy! I considered having her fish Taco as it didn't smell all that fishy but I decided against it. I only enjoy me the fish taco when I know the establishment very well. If you haven't had Esther's taco, I do recommend it! read more

Good service, good Mexican food. The salsas are delicious they have two kinds the chunky one is delicious with a little kick but not too spicy; they have a more diluted salsa but don't be discouraged , it's packed with flavor and spiciness . We came for Taco Tuesday. Did you know they now do Taco THURSDAY, too? Anyway, lots of tacos were eaten and we were super satisfied. I walked in and there were several parties waiting for a table at 5pm on a Tuesday evening. I went to the bar, placed my order to go, and paid and got my food quickly. Staff members were kind, service was speedy, prices were fair and the food... oh, yes... the food was good. Big, full, flavorful tacos. What a joy to behold! We will absolutely be back again. Good food use to have fair pricing. Had my rehearsal dinner there and thank god it was before the price hike. Chips used to be free with meal but not since the plandemic. The Plandemic kinda screwed everything up and with this administration in office and it's runaway inflation raised the prices up everywhere and it makes it hard to enjoy a night out with the family.
