The service was very friendly, the food was very good, and the ambiance relaxing. Glad we stopped - we were hungry and this place did not disappoint. When hungry and in the area we recommend stopping. It's a quick bite, not super fancy but nice and good food nonetheless. We would go back and will when in the area again. Cheers

Steak strips

Best steak strips I've ever had!! Very friendly staff! My daughter loved her mushrooms on her burger!!

*** really good roadtrip meal stop *** As soon as my daughters and I walked into Esther's Family Diner in Fort Sumner, NM, on 10.11.2025 we were warmly greeted by the lone waitress and told we may sit down even if our order was for takeout. While we waited, we argued about Mountain Dew versus Dr. Pepper and watched the extraordinary tall cook as he dodged the exhaust fan, flipping our burger patties then shifting back over to the fries. The green chile was hot and I loved it so much with my thick patty and melted cheese. All the fresh veggies piled on were delicious and crunchy. The back seat kids were happy while we ate on our way to Clovis. Three burgers with fries and three canned drinks set me back $45.68, but it was worth it. This looks to be the best place in this tiny town. Not sure how big rig friendly the parking could be, but if I would make the effort to go here. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4| Price: 4.5

We were traveling to Albuquerque from Lubbock & needed to stop for lunch. Esther's Family Diner was our choice for today. It's a small restaurant where locals gather & travelers stop in. We had burgers that were cooked & seasoned just right. The fries were really good. My husband ate his & most of mine, too. The place is a bit dated, but the service was fast & friendly. Your food is cooked basically in the middle of the restaurant, so you kinda feel like you're at home.

My bf and I took a road trip to ABQ from Texas to the Balloon fiesta. In our way back we stopped here for one last green chili meal. It was the best meal we had on our trip. Just plain delicious food made with love. The beans were fantastic. Service was very nice. So glad we stopped here.

We are traveling cross country on motorcycles, this was our final meal of the day and the only choice in Fort Sumner at 8pm on a Friday night The menu was very limited with burgers and a couple other choices, hence only 4 stars. It was a Game Night menu, apparently celebrating the High School football game being played nearby. The 3 of us ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich, highly recommended by our waitress, who was eating one herself! Our sandwiches were delivered quickly. They were spicy and flavorful, Buffalo style spicy. The waitress was super sweet with a great sense of humor. I'm not sure we will pass this way again, but if we do, we would happily eat at Esther's again.

10/26/25- This place would have gotten 4 stars but they had no variety in meal options because they have a limited menu which differs from day to day so we had to choose from something off the "Sunday menu", 9 whole dishes! very disappointing. Awsome young staff who treated us like royalty. All in all the food was average( cheeseburger & spaghetti) and the prices were fair.

Simple menu, but the food is amazing. One of the only businesses open in town when we came through and it was awesome.

Was pleasantly surprised to find this hidden gem while on the road from Phoenix, AZ to Houston, TX…read morein the town of Fort Sumner, NM. I immediately felt the "home town" vibe of this special restaurant & coffee shop. The staff was so friendly & welcoming that I immediately felt right at home. Had a "BLT" & asked them to add a fried egg & they happily obliged. it was simply excellent & brought back vivid memories of my youth from a bygone era when food was prepared with love , caring & pride in serving the very best to the community they served. A little about the proprietors: before "Sam" Samantha & Kurt started this wonderful eatery & coffee house, it was a Mexican restaurant called Fred's that had proudly served the Fort Sumner community for 47 years. So the history of friendly service & outstanding fare literally is permeated within. Now for the sad part. I discovered that this was their last day open! After 4 years, surviving thru the Covid restrictions, Sam & Kurt are have to close due to illness. It saddens the heart that Fort Sumner, NM will lose this hidden gem. If I lived here, it would have definitely been my "go to" place for everything. Thank you so much Sam & Kurt for providing the friendliest & definitely the tastiest place ever. Oh and the coffee is divine...

We received a recommendation from Mike from the Sunset Motel. He told us Del's was a great place…read morefor dinner and cocktails. He explained the restaurant served New Mexico liquor that tasted like regular liquor. So we found the restaurant in Tucumcari, NM. We got there at 6:15 and we should have arrived at 5:00. There was a wall of people waiting to be seated. We received a beeper that would tell us when we could be seated. We waited for 45 minutes and the four of us we were seated at a round table in the bar. Our servers name was Corina, she was amazing, she was the bar tender for the entire restaurant and was the server for 4 tables in the bar. She took our order for drinks and our appetizer and entrees. We all wanted the fried Catfish, however we found out they were completely out of it! And Friday they would have a shipment. My husband and I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. My husband ordered the baked potato with coleslaw . Our friends ordered the same. The meatloaf was delicious and the sides were tasty. We really enjoyed the quiet setting in the bar. There were lots of tables toward the entrance, and the people waiting for a table spilled out by the diners. So we were happy to sit in the bar where it was quiet and more intimate. We were so happy with our food and drinks we decided to go back the next day. So we arrived at 4:45 and requested the bar. We were served by Toni, she was a kick! We loved her sense of humor and her service. We had another wonderful meal. We wanted to reorder the meatloaf because it was sooo good. Unfortunately they were out of it! So we had catfish which was good. Toni made the best martini's using all distilled liquor from New Mexico . They don't have a regular liquor license which is extremely expensive in NM. The martini's were delicious, Toni knows how to make great Martin's. We highly recommend this restaurant, get there early wait times can be 45 minutes to an hour!

Still has its traditional roadside interior, heavy wooden, kitschy, tourist destination vibe. We were greeted walking in and seated promptly. The hostess brought menus with her. We sat in the bar area the evening of out donner there. Our server was funny, upbeat and kind. She made our meal there enjoyable. A varied menu with a little bit of everything on it for all kinds of taste buds. After giving the menu a good look, I opted for their Chili Relenos with Hatch chilis. A nice serving with a pair of well prepared chilis, rice and beans with some diced tomato and lettuce. It was a good meal, the rellenos were done well, nice cheese stuffed, breaded and fried near perfect. All in all a good meal 4 Stars a solid choice in a town with limited options 01321
