    Chili Rellenos Dinner
    Jessica J.

We stopped at this diner as it was close to our hotel (Hampton Inn). This was our last stop before home, so we were tired and not really looking for anything special, but his place was just that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is just a little diner, been there forever, you walk into a gift shop and the restaurant is off to the side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had eaten Mexican all week on our road trip and figured why stop now! I have to say this was the best relleno plate I had in all of New Mexico (and I don't think I had a bad one all week). The rellenos were cooked perfectly, the red & green chile were perfectly spiced and as a bonus they had posole as a side (a rarity for me - at least in Colorado). Truly loved it. The service was a little slow, but we might have come in during a shift change. Otherwise it was great!

Easy to find right off I-40 with lots of parking. Has a cute gift shop as you walk in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside was full so we sat outside it was covered and there was a breeze so was comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter took our drink orders quickly and I decided on the Enchiladas Santa Fe. It took a while to get our food but was worth the wait. Was blue corn with chicken green chili sauce with beans and posole (kinda like hominy) was very good. If we are in the area I'd stop here again.

Late lunch/early dinner in Santa Rosa on our way to Santa Fe. The Silver Moon is easy to access just off of I-40. This is our 3rd or 4th time at the Silver moon in as many years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restrauant is a little tired but the food is good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered chili releno's (cheese) with red sauce. It comes with brown beans and pozole. I enjoyed the meal. Jan ordered the Mexican dinner. A taco, enchilada, and tamale with brown beans and pozole. She enjoyed her mean and said the tamale was very good. The service was good, the prices ok.

Side plate when ordering fajitas. Beans and hominy are extra. Guacamole needs salt, garlic and pepper.

So the service was good, no wait. There is a souvenir shop in the restaurant. The menu offers American food as well as Mexican. The salsa and chips and guacamole wasn't the best but it was okay. I ordered the steak fajitas and they were good. Steak was tender. Got three little tortillas. Ordered the extra beans and hominy. Both were good. Hubby ordered the chile relleno, taco and enchilada plate the beef was ground beef but flavorful. He liked the meal and would order it again. Between this and Dairy Queen, I will do this all day long. Prices at the souvenir shop are ridiculous.

Food was delicious, service was good but the people there are not very friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance seems nice, there is a little store there to buy things.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The manager or owner not sure, does not exhibit that small town charm. The wait staff does but definitely not the manager/owner. 7 of us stopped in to have dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First we asked if we could sit outside since there was an open air patio with numerous empty tables and chairs. It would have been a perfect night to sit outside and drink and eat. (We would have spent a fortune there that night if the would have let us sit outside.)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were told "No, the outside area is closed"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]So they crammed us into a booth. We asked politely if we could put a chair at the end of the table so one side would not be squished with 4 people. They said "No, we need this walkway"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We said can't we move the little table across the way? That way there is still a walkway but you just have to veer a little bit. The answer was "No". Our waitress was wonderful but her boss did not have that small town charm we were hoping to see. It was like going to a restaurant in a Big City. Unyielding and a bit cranky. The food is good the waitress was wonderful, but management needs to be a bit friendlier. I would normally give 5 stars, but the attitude of the manager brings things down. So much that the next night the 7 of us tried to eat there again but were greeted with "the outside is closed and you're gonna have to wait a long time" Pretty short and curt. So much we decided not to eat there and went some place else.

Green Chili Chicken Sandwich with fries

Seated quickly. Complimentary chips and salsa brought to table. Order taken and 9 minutes later food received. Presentation of food in plates was good. The hubs said the peppers on his chicken sandwich were way too hot. He likes green chilies but these were over the top. Had to scrape them off. The fries were good. My chicken quesadillas were good. But something was off with the guacamole. Had a banana taste to it. I'm use to jalapeños, onions and diced tomatoes in my guacamole so not sure how they make theirs. The beans were a little on the hard side. And not a fan of the corn hominy/posole but won't judge that. Prices were a little on the high side. Would not order these meals again.

Overall the place is less than enjoyable, but not bad. Food, service, and the gift shop all fall below a "good" experience. Wings are similar to stopping at a gas station Chili cheese fries are lacking in chili and replaced by an unfamiliar & questioning sauce Anything fried is so overly fried/breading coating to taste anything other than that Cheese curds are good

Bad Guacamole, a tube of cafeteria sour cream and a big bill for horrible food.

Horrible! The Guacamole was sour and tastes bad! The food quality is minimal at best even for being in the middle of nowhere! [[HIGHLIGHT]]You know there will not be white table cloth dining but this is elementary school cafeteria worthy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Save your money and a stomachache and Skip this place.

Build your own. Chili relleno, taco, cheese enchilada.

This is best mexican food I have had in a long time. Deep fried relleno, omgoodness, so good. Service is amazing even though they were extremely busy. Keisha was amazing. I would drive back this way just to stop here. Everyone was amazing. Good team work from everyone.

Convenient spot near our hotel. Service was timely and friendly. We had the Enchiladas de Santa Fe along with the complementary chips and salsa which were all delish. Also tried the brussel sprouts for an appetizer - do not recommend. They were soggy and tasted like they were microwaved. The margarita was $11 and was decent. Next time I'd try one of the local beers. Pretty good dinner in Santa Rosa, and we'd go back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty busy the entire time we were there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

2 tamales, pork & chicken and pozole
    Cheri B.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute little gift area to browse in...restaurant decor was fine, nothing exceptional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Menu was very extensive but we felt like Mexican. I ordered chicken fajitas and my hubby got 2 tamales, pork & chicken. My fajitas came on the usual hot skillet, but it wasn't sizzling or steamy. Some pieces were stuck to the skillet and there wasn't much onion or pepper. It kinda looked like leftover from lunch maybe. My 4 corn tortillas were all stuck together and I finally salvaged 1 while tearing up the other 3. Sour cream came in a tube and guac was not fresh guac. So the fajitas were less than good. I had ordered the beans and pozole side which was available for .99 extra. The pozole was really good ! I should've just ordered a bowl of that! My hubby liked his tamales very much, however. The prickly pear margarita was good. 3 stars is adequate Service was fine. Waiter brought me new, fresh corn tortillas and said not to worry as he hadn't charged us for them. Ha! There would've been a war if we had been charged for them!

Cute little gift…read moreshop items adorn the walls and around the cash wrap we were sitting in the corner of the restaurant and had a nice view out of the window. We were immediately asked for our drink order now they do serve beer here and it's my understanding the margaritas are made with wine. We just had water as we had had a long day traveling and just needed to rehydrate. I included some pictures of the food that we ordered, but I wanted to note that the chips and salsa was very good. The chips were made of corn and salted lightly and served warm. The salsa was handmade and on the spicy side I had a bowl of Caldo de Res ( beef soup with vegetables. Definitely comfort food and I highly recommend) and a homemade pork green chili tamale on the side. The tamale was flavored outstanding, but was a little lacking on the meat and slightly on the dry side, but I would definitely order it again because it was authentic and the flavor was great. The other person in my party had a quesadilla stuffed with chicken. I didn't have a photo of that, but it was the fattest quesadilla I've ever seen they raved about it. The restaurant was relatively full. I noticed in the parking lot that most of the license plates were from out of state so since this restaurant is in Santa Rosa, New Mexico located off the interstate of I 40 many of these patrons were traveling we're passing through. A lot of individual people eating alone as well at the bar. The service was fantastic. There was two young ladies working together in tandem definitely family members. Both had great big smiles on their faces. I did comment to both of them not to work too hard and both responded "oh we have been since the day they we were born" as they chuckled, commenting something along that line with warm smiles and a chuckle. This particular restaurant gets high marks for me as I compare it to the one down the end of the street also on this historic route 66 that I reviewed not just four or five weeks ago at three stars. I would highly recommend this place over the competitor. Not only for flavor of food but Service, atmosphere and pricing. I travel through here quite often and I will definitely make a point to come back and try several different menu items. I will be sure to ask the owners what they recommend and report back and review that for all that maybe are following in case you happen to come through here to this family owned an operated gem.

Just call it mango juice because that is what it was. The only bright spot of the entire meal was our waiter. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely great. I ordered the barbacoa plate, which came with four incredibly tiny tacos and beans. For $22, I was honestly shocked at how little meat was in each taco. Maybe a tablespoon at most. On top of that, the barbacoa had so many burnt pieces that they completely overpowered the flavor. I could barely taste anything besides char. I only finished it because I was starving. The beans were somehow even worse. They tasted like plain boiled beans with absolutely no seasoning. Not even salt. My girlfriend ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole for $28, and they were just as disappointing. It was basically two tiny rolled tortillas with the chicken sitting next to them instead of inside them. It made no sense. The mole sauce was decent, but it leaned much sweeter than savory. The only thing we left talking about was how disappointed we were. For the prices they charge, the portions and quality were nowhere close to worth it. We actually stopped at the Valero down the street afterward so I could grab a Milky Way ice cream because I was still hungry. That ended up being the best part of the night. Restaurant was beautiful too I guess.

I visited on a Monday evening, around 5pm. That's usually the time us old folks eat. I had no issue getting a table. Promptly seated, I ordered a beer and my dinner. The menu is a good mix, something for everyone. I ordered the Chili Rellenos. Of course I ordered that. Hey, when in Rome..... My meal was served quick and hot. Waiting a minute to cool was definitely in the cards. No problem, I had my beer, salsa and chips to occupy me while the steam settled. After a bit, I dug in. First fork was the rice. Oh, was that rice ever good! The only problem was that there wasn't enough. I suggest that you order a side of that glorious grain. Fantastic! The refried beans, well, were ok, but just ok. The Hatch greenies, as you'd expect, were outstanding and very flavorful. I ordered them Christmas style, with green and red sauce. Both of those condiments were tasty, but of the two, the green sauce stood out. Boy did it ever. I'll be dreaming of that sauce later tonight. Hopefully my girlfriend doesn't pop into the picture.....OR, maybe she should! LoL, now that would be a dream! Don't worry about parking, as there is more than ample. You can park in the front, the back, either side, and if you're driving a big rig, pulling a trailer, or driving a tank, they've got you covered. Across the street is special parking for those vehicles. More parking outside than tables inside. Pay La Cita a visit for a romantic dinner, or as I did, by yourself....my dream trend may have helped with that. Hey, I may be old, but certainly not dead! Quick Tip: I parked in the back, and when leaving, I took the dirt alley. It was a fun adventure. I'd suggest that you do it during daylight hours though. You never know who you'll run into, or for that matter, over! Let's hope it isn't Skinny Pete or Badger.

The burrito also didn't seem to have the pan fried potatoes that were supposed to be in it. Tacos al Carbon: From the first bite I knew I wasn't going to eat these; the steak tasted weird, with a weird texture, and seemed old. Enchilladas: I got them with beef & green sauce; the beef had a decent flavor and texture. Stuffed Sopapilla: The sopapilla itself had a good comfort food type of taste and texture. We ordered a burrito, fries and drinks - a Manhattan for my wife and a chocolate martini with Kettle One and crème de cacao for me. My wife's drink was to her liking, but the chocolate martini tasted like there was coffee liqueur in it. Since I didn't know when our waitress would appear again, I told the first person we saw - a young man - that I couldn't drink anything with coffee because of the caffeine, and that I needed it remade. He took it back to redo. While we were waiting, one of the pool players dropped a very loud f-bomb when he missed a shot. Then a young child began crying very loudly. The young man came back with the remade drink, and the coffee taste was gone. After it had been over 45 minutes I had to ask what looked like the manager what had happened to our burrito and fries. She went back to check, and our food finally appeared. The burritos were long on rice and short on carne asada, something we couldn't know until we started eating. At some point our original waitress came back, and my wife told her we had to send back my first drink because of the coffee ingredient. She denied any coffee-containing spirit was used, and walked away. We never saw her again. I had to ask the manager for an itemized ticket, since the ones we had were sign for a total amount only, with no itemized detail. Since the original waitress had closed out our ticket right after we ordered and had given us our check, we paid and left. No tip was left. If you want a properly-mixed drink, be prepared to explicitly request every ingredient. Better still, don't expect great drinks or food at this place - stay away. There are lots of other choices in Las Vegas NM.
