The review I wrote back in October shows up only on my personal page, so I'm repeating it here:…read more The bodice of the dress I bought for my son's wedding was a bit too long and needed to be taken in/up at the shoulders. I sew, but the dress was heavily beaded and I was afraid of ruining it. Fran snuck me into her schedule at the last minute and did an absolutely flawless job for half the price I was quoted by The Sewing Room; (a price so high I would have risked doing it myself before I paid it, btw). You truly could not tell any alterations had been done and it fit perfectly. Very highly recommended!

Ohhh boy, does Fran do a good job on clothes. If you have clothes in need of mending, look no…read morefurther than here. Back in 2013 I brought some ripped jeans and a detached bowtie for her to fix, and since then I have come back over 2-3 times just because I enjoy making it over to her shop. For starters, Fran is the nicest elderly lady who lives in a gorgeously cluttered little house with all the utensils needed to fix almost any sewing project. She charges at minimum wage to fix things ($5 for a smallish fix, for example), adds on and fixes things for free, and will make trips to stores to buy just what she needs to fulfill your request. She does not hesitate to do her best job on your project, and this may mean taking several weeks. Just be sure to bring cash as she doesn't take credit. She also dug me out of the snow when I got stuck in her driveway! She came out and poured kitty litter for tire grip and drove my car out of the snow for me. I wish there was a Fran in every city that I move to after graduating.

Two strikes and you're out, unfortunately. I had used this business for my dry cleaning 5 or 6…read moretimes now, they historically provided a decent service, however there have been two big misses: 1. A few months ago, I brought a suit in for dry cleaning and when I got the dress shirts back the buttons had some white flakes coming off them. I took it back and they said it might be some cleaning product deposit and could be scratched off. Cool, but ideally something they should have caught and fixed themselves. 2. Today I brought my suit in to drop off for cleaning 20 minutes before closing only for the man behind the counter to say "sorry we just closed 5 minutes ago because I want to get out of here early." Not only was he unwilling to accept my drop-off, he seemed extremely unapologetic and out of it (was he sober? I hope so) during the whole conversation, and also twice referenced "it's a Sunday" (it was Tuesday) as if that explains why he decided to close early. Terrible customer service. Due to these interactions, I think I will take my dry cleaning elsewhere from now on. I hope the business is able to clean up their practices in the future!

They were responsive to my texts and call and promptly picked up my laundry, asked what service i required and trusted me enough to not charge me until the laundry was done as I handed off my laundry on the day i was leaving for home in Texas. They went beyond the norm and pressed my clothes and folded it nicely and were awesome enough to deliver it back to me when i returned back for work. I can't recommend them and their service enough and their prices are fair. I'll be using them often and have recommended their service to my fellow coworkers.

The Upholstery Shop: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. I replaced the detachable cushions on 8 dining…read morerooms chairs. They were clean and in reasonably good condition but I wanted an updated look. The process from start to finish took more than 5 months. A few thoughts on my recent experience: The Good: A great webpage with testimonials about craftsmanship, quality and cautions about mask wearing to protect everyone's health. They offer a great selection of fabrics and a helpful zoom meeting consultation followed by fabric samples. The Bad: Despite a promise not to have client furniture for more than 4 weeks and careful pickups and deliveries; they kept my chairs from late May until early August and Mike interacted with us without a mask. Later he called to let us know he tested Covid positive. After we finally got our chairs and cushions, we saw the following defects: i.e. The Ugly. (1) Velcro straps were sewn too far into the center of the cushion to wrap around the upright posts of the chairs; (2) The Zipper was not concealed by a material flap like our old cushions and contrasted with, rather than matched, the color of the upholstery material making it very prominent; (3) The material was frayed near the edge on two cushions; (4) The new foam inserts were not cut properly to fully fill out the cushions; (5) Our original cushions were not returned. Wanting to limit our interactions with Mike; we wrote asking the shop to fix only the first, functional problem, deciding we could fix or ignore the cosmetic flaws. To her credit, Heather seemed genuinely surprised by the poor workmanship and promised to reposition the Velcro straps. When we returned the cushions for repair, I immediately regretted paying earlier, in full, by check. Mike began to argue that they could not fix this obvious defect. He also stated that he could not return our old cushions because they had been destroyed. While I retreated to the car before I exploded, my husband patiently pointed out to him how the Velcro tabs could be relocated. He relented and several weeks later we finally got our new cushions. They look .... O.K. I really wish I had not relied on the snazzy website pix and testimonials and chosen an upholsterer I knew.
