BRIDES BEWARE OF BODY SHAMING…read more My wife and I had our wedding garb tailored by Saniye - technically, the alterations were excellent, including somewhat challenging alterations on a decorated jacket sleeve and adjustments to the wedding dress. The price seemed a little high, but we did not shop around and were happy with the work done. All that said, Saniye was at times abrasive and body-shaming toward my wife. After going to the store for a second fitting, my wife came home nearly in tears because of her interaction. While the first fitting went well without incident, on the second visit, Saniye commented that my wife had gained too much weight in the weeks that had passed, and she warned her that the dress may be too tight if she kept eating like she was.... to my wife, the dress felt fine that day and on the wedding day. These comments, while presumably well-meaning, could have a very negative impact on a soon-to-be-bride. I confronted Saniye about this at the time of pick up, encouraging her to please speak more carefully to prospective brides and consider the mindset that she may leave them with in regards to their dresses. Her response was that it was a language or cultural barrier and that she meant only the best by what she had said. While I can understand her point of view, there was little remorse or reflection. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a pattern of hers. So, while her alterations are nice, I would really advise brides to stay away or be VERY cautious in their dealings with her - it is not worth the potential risk to body image prior to such a big and sacred day of marriage.

I wanted to get my dress hemmed but decided to take it elsewhere because of the way I was treated. Please take your business somewhere where it's appreciated.

I was getting ready to go on a cruise and found the perfect dress for formal night but it was way too long. I either needed to grow another 5 inches or find a tailor. Since I doubted I could grow 5 inches in one week, I had to place my bet on the tailor. I did some searching on yelp, dexknows, and just on the internet in general. The Tailoring Palace had some wonderful reviews so I decided to give it a shot. I went in and the owner greeted me at the desk. He was pleasant, cheerful, and professional. He took the time to listen to what I needed and how soon I needed it. He had me put on the dress (ladies, remember to bring the shoes you plan to wear with this and any body shapers so the dress hangs just like it will when you wear it) and stand up on a box in front of the mirror. He took the time to make sure he knew how short I wanted it and marked the dress with his chalk. I was leaving in four days and he said he would have it ready for me the day before I left. I went in to pick up my dress and his wife was there this time. She is also a very nice person. She had me try the dress on again just to make sure we didn't need any last minute changes. The dress was PERFECT! I can now go on my cruise and not worry about having to hike up my dress to walk or stepping on it. The price was much less expensive than I thought it would be. I figured I would pay the same price of my dress for the tailoring. Not even close! I paid only $30. He does leather jackets, dresses, suits, just about another you wear that needs to be altered. Please go and give this place a shot. They are wonderful people, do incredible work, and are well worth the price.

Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with Katherine at Sew It. I took my wedding dress in…read morefor alterations, the dress was hemmed too short (she said it just wasn't pressed), it was too short after pressing. Bra pads were sewn in but edges were visible. Embellishments were sewn in the wrong spot (I had explained and showed her a photo of what I wanted and they would have fit if sewn on like I requested), they were also loose and not secure. The bustle buttons were sewn on crooked and did not match the dress, but she said "that's all I have". When I addressed these concerns at my appointment, she dismissed them, I did not feel good leaving my final appointment. She has refused to work with me on making this right. I requested a partial refund on an $800 alterations bill, thinking that was fair, she refused. The dress was unwearable and I had to purchase a new dress at the last minute! I wish I wouldn't have paid her in full. She told me on May 27th that she'd be back in town "in a couple weeks" to look at the dress, my wedding was on June 20th so that was impossible, not to mention the dress was unfixable as it was hemmed way too short. She then tried to blame it on us making my appointment too late. Buyer beware she does NOT stand behind her work. I've worked with Katherine before, but her greediness and unprofessionalism in this situation was shocking. Photos attached:
