Hands down best tacos I've ever had! Went on a Tuesday with my half-cousin to the Jesse bar (connected to Estella by a lovely outdoor patio) and found out Estella was closed on Tuesdays. Given all the hype (especially for the vegetarian tacos) we decided to come back the next night and we were not disappointed. Ordered chips and guac and a few mushroom and seasonal pumpkin tacos, and once I ate the pumpkin taco I knew we needed to order more! Truly heavenly tasting. Also really love the vibe- Estella itself is pretty small indoor seating but I'm sure in summer months the large patio is enough seating. We ended up ordering our food and sitting in the Jesse, which the waiters seamlessly deliver to you. Will definitely be coming back and this time ordering enough veggie tacos from the get-go!! read more

We are older women who enjoy safe travel during COVID. The Jesse, the darling hotel provided just what we requested: separate rooms, 3rd floor for quiet, beautiful decor and immaculate accommodation. We were welcomed warmly with minimal contact by the mask wearing staff. After a walk along the Truckee River, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner from Estella on the adjoining patio under a heat lamp, bundled up and happy. Safe, secure stay with a young and thoughtful staff. The food was outstanding. My mushroom taco was smokey yummyness. The carne was good too. My only complaint was the service. Clearly there was a lot of stress coming from the kitchen and items had run out, which was understandable for a new restaurant. but I took a star off because the woman at the register was not welcoming. We stood there for a while trying to order and she was basically ignoring us. She eventually took our order and then when I went back to add more to our order, I got ignored again and gave up. read more

So delicious! The tacos are full of flavor and the meat was cooked perfectly. The carne asada melted in my mouth and the al pastor was nicely charred. Though the price point is a big high, it's worth it! I'd suggest skipping the bean dip, it's not anything amazing. I'm excited to come back and have some tequila with my tacos next time. read more

When my husband and I are traveling I consult yelp when deciding where to eat. We are simply looking for very delicious and fresh food and the yelp crowd did not let us down on Estella! My husband had the Carnitas taco and a fish taco and then I think he ordered another Carnitas taco. I had the squash salad which was a killer, the acorn squash was to die for, literally! Each piece was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Then I had the mushroom taco. The tortillas are actually food. They are not just a receptacle for fillings and tasteless. And oh, order the chips and guacamole and bean dip. I completely cleaned out the bowl of bean dip, guacamole is fresh and green and tangy with little chunks of avocado so it's not beat to death. I could personally live on the tortillas and bean dip. I'm craving them as I write. I asked the chef behind the counter, Chef Harrison, what he puts in the bean dip? The list was long! I appreciate that a chef put a lot of thought into what they serve and takes pride in the ingredients and taste. Estella is also a fun place to eat because you sit at a counter and watch the chef cook. It gives me great pleasure to see a chef that is impeccably clean and organized and clearly takes great pride in what he is putting on the cooktop. Even dishes that weren't for me were so fun to watch the care that is put into each item that goes into one of his tacos. I could clearly see that the chef would not be doing anything differently if he didn't have a counter full of people watching. Estella is quality and care and thoughtfulness. I visited this place back in September when I was in town for a couple of days and I haven't stopped thinking about their tacos! I got the mushroom taco and their seasonal veggie taco (which was pumpkin and broccoli at the time). I never would have thought broccoli and pumpkin could taste so good and that's coming from someone who HATES broccoli. I went back the next day before leaving Reno, and now I can't wait until I visit again. Oh my gosh, this place is AMAZING and is gonna be our "go to" when we're back in Reno! The patio is super chill and comfy with low tables, couches and blankets. The table seating ranges from high tops to picnic tables on a patio with outdoor lighting and a hip and happening vibe! Now onto the tacos y mezcal. We tried every one with the favs being the perfectly battered fish tacos, roasted mushroom taco and El Pastor with pineapple. Lots of Mezcal to try with the traditional accoutrements of orange slices, pickled radishes and worm salt! This is NOT your typical taqueria but a very special spot featuring flavorful and thoughtful taco and Mezcal offerings at great prices too. You gotta check it out at the Jesse Hotel! I was in Reno for one night on a business trip recently and was told by an employee at my hotel that Estella would be the place to eat dinner. The tacos served at Estella are absolutely the best tacos I have ever had! I had a fish taco, a Carnitas taco and a mushroom taco. I also ordered the chips, guacamole and bean dip. The handmade tortillas at Estella are absolutely delicious! They are handmade each day from hand mixed masa and other ingredients. The care that goes into these tortillas is apparent. It was fun to sit at the counter and watch the chef carefully make different types of tacos. I was able to speak to the chef even though he was super busy and he told me he had traveled throughout Mexico to experience authentic tacos. A skill which he brought back to Reno. Do NOT go to them for catering. They charged a ton of money and sent over just a small tin of vegetables for a wedding of 100 people. We didn't find out until we opened the dishes to serve that they had decided to change our order (they didn't forget, but decided and didn't tell us this until we called asking where the rest of the food was). When we sent people over to ask where all the beans and filling food items were they treated us poorly and didn't want to provide what we had paid for. We had to rush order pizzas from somewhere else just to feed people. If you want to overpay for the wrong thing and then be treated poorly because you actually want the food you paid for, this is your place. read more

We visited Estella Tacos Y Mezcal a few weeks ago and I've been craving more ever since. It's a small dining area, so we chose to sit at the bar. Which ended up being a perfect choice since we could see all the magic happen in the kitchen from there. I got the al pastor, smoked mushroom, and mariscos tacos. All were phenomenal. The al pastor comes with this crunchy fried cheese that we saw them fry on the flat top. I mean, what more could you ask for! Each taco was perfectly seasoned, fresh, and unique. We also enjoyed some Mezcal flights which were given with different items to cleanse your pallet (really just to chase the liquor!) The staff was very helpful in helping us choose our mezcals. They even showed us the bottles and answered all of our pressing Mezcal questions. Overall, Estella Tacos are some of the best I've had in a long time. It is fairly pricey, so I wouldn't come expected a cheap bite! read more

The owners have done an incredible job with this space! We came here for a girl's night because it had patio dining and we love tacos. Estella delivered on both counts! We were able to find parking really close by (the parking lot was full at 7:45pm) and were sat within minutes on couches at the edge of the patio. The ambiance is really relaxing and the music was loud enough to be heard but not drown out conversation. The patio dining acts a huge bar area, so you find seats in the patio but go inside to order food and drinks from the bar. We ordered chips & guac to start, which was delicious and the chips super salty & crunchy. The tacos were different than others I'd had in town and SUPER delicious. Highly recommend the carnitas and the al pastor! The salsa they use in the tacos give them the perfect spice with really tasty meat. The interior of the Jesse Hotel was decorated really well too, can't wait to eat inside when it gets cooler. Overall great experience! read more

Based on the previous reviews of this place we had really high hopes. Unfortunately, I think we came in on an off night. We had to wait over 45 minutes to get six really small tacos. We completely understand that a restaurant can get busy, but over 45 minutes for six small tacos was a bit much. To make it worse, three of the six tacos came out cold. The staff was very apologetic, which we appreciated, but it still didn't make the situation better. To their credit they did offer to make us more tacos, but we didn't want to wait another 45 minutes for new food. I'm not sure if we will be back or not, but hopefully everyone else that gives it a shot has a better experience than we did. read more

From beginning to end, our experience was amazing!! We opted to sit outside and were greeted with a basket of blankets and two heaters next to our table. Then came the drinks. Every drink we ordered was made perfectly. I ordered the seasonal veggie taco, which happened to be pumpkin. I live in Southern California and have tried MANY veggie tacos. Nothing has ever come close to this. The flavors, the texture, the heat. Hands down, best taco of my life. Harrison (the chef) came out to check on our food and was just the sweetest! This is a tiny restaurant with really great food and service. There are maybe 10 seats, and the menu is limited to tacos. But what great tacos! This is like the opposite of Taco Bell. The only downside is their hours. It's probably my fault for not checking, but the first time I went I arrived Sunday at 6, just as they were closing. Driving home yesterday from fly fishing had us craving Mexican food and we wanted something new. I searched for a 5 Star restaurant and up popped Estella's. We had to back track but WOW, was it worth it! We weren't sure how to order so a very kind miss explained how the restaurant worked and escorted us to the order station. We ordered a salad (so fresh!) and four different tacos. My favorite was the Red Snapper fish taco, a generous portion of fish fried to perfection with a fantastic chipotle crema and a beautiful slaw. My husband's favorite was the pork chorizo although all four tacos were unique and delicious. Fun music, fun energy and great food as well as a pup-friendly patio....what more could one ask for? Well, let me tell you....the friendly miss who was so helpful told us about the two special pies they just started serving and the Margarita Pie (with tequila in the ingredients) sounded like the perfect finish to a great evening; we were not disappointed. The delicate flavor was fine-tuned down to the small dollop of white cream on top that had the most subtle taste of cloves...if they have it available don't pass it up! We will be back.
