Every teacher we have had for four years you can tell has been hand chosen by the owner, the teachers are the cream of the crop. They have the students work hard, learn important life lessons (working as a team, being respectful, self confidence, taking criticism well), pay very close attention to technique, and are extremely creative. The most beautiful thing about this studio is watching how the students who go there blossom. It is amazing to watch the kids from the preschool ages into the teenage ages. Where they become such talented dancers, but young adults that are wonderful role models (in their manner, dance, behavior, etc.) to the younger ones. The recital has always been a magical time for our family. It is very organized, children are kept safe, it is done in a professional venue, and my kids ADORE being a part of it. Know that you have to be organized yourself as a parent for your child do have just as a magical time as mine do. We love UDA!! You will make such a wonderful decision by having your child become a part of this UDA family.

My friend and I signed up for the Pole 1 Technique class with Justin. First, the space is absolutely gorgeous. Its in what looks like a converted school building and the large draped windows and hardwood floor made me feel like I'd walked onto the set of Fame. Super cool! Justin was warm and encouraging and did a great job communicating the fundamentals. I was super impressed by how he explained body movement and hand placement etc so clearly. It was my friends first pole class ever and she was able to learn the pirouette, the dip spin AND the mermaid spin in the first class! Justin was able to give me more challenging modifications and did a really wonderful job of working with everyone in the class at the level they were comfortable. I had such a a fun time and good workout, I wanted to book a class the very next day, but my schedule didn't allow it. The cheerleaders aren't there anymore, they moved to another location. But really the cheerleaders were sweet, talented, hardworking girls and their mothers were supportive parents just as any dance parents. They wear similar attire to dancers for practice. The three-year-old class had ballet bars set up in the center of the room at the perfect height for those little girls. The class size was small (about 7) with two teachers. Each girl received individual attention while the instructors worked on their steps. Parents remained outside the room with only a small, one-way mirror to observe the class. Even during shoe changes, we weren't allowed in. I was way okay with that! The instructors made sure the girls had their tap shoes on and tied before starting the second half of class. Along with cute foam circles to make sure each girl had her own spot along the bar or along the side of the room and personal instruction, there was a time for some free dance with the lights dimmed and small sparkly tree branches to hold and twirl. It was awesome! You can tell Jennifer Hansen is serious about her academy and her dancers. We are loving it!

I called the owner shortly after leaving asking about the hip hop class, not understanding why the boys can do ballet, tap and jazz, but why my daughter couldn't join the hip hop class. I understand it is her establishment and she can do what she pleases with it. But I, personally found it very sexist. She was rude, unprofessional and dismissive. Needless to say my daughter will not be attending the dance classes.
