It runs about 400 a month, 6 hours a week, on a one-year contract. There are also incidentals like costumes, dancewear and t-shirts. There's also a mandatory tour in the summer that will run you about $1,200. My daughter knew no one when she first began but every single time I dropped her off she radiated with excitement. She never once complained about her teachers or her classmates. She made lifelong friends and her talent blossomed. She auditioned with a self tape and halfway through the year, I had her sing the same song that she auditioned with. The difference was night and day. COPA is not just an after-school party. The teachers and curriculum are demanding and the care that they take with these kids couldn't be more professional. My daughter learned so much during her year there and we would have loved to continue except that the commute was killing us. If they ever decide to put a Copa in Park City before my daughter goes to college, we would re-sign in a heartbeat!

I called the owner shortly after leaving asking about the hip hop class, not understanding why the boys can do ballet, tap and jazz, but why my daughter couldn't join the hip hop class. I understand it is her establishment and she can do what she pleases with it. But I, personally found it very sexist. She was rude, unprofessional and dismissive. The three-year-old class had ballet bars set up in the center of the room at the perfect height for those little girls. The class size was small (about 7) with two teachers. Each girl received individual attention while the instructors worked on their steps. Parents remained outside the room with only a small, one-way mirror to observe the class. Even during shoe changes, we weren't allowed in. I was way okay with that! The instructors made sure the girls had their tap shoes on and tied before starting the second half of class. Along with cute foam circles to make sure each girl had her own spot along the bar or along the side of the room and personal instruction, there was a time for some free dance with the lights dimmed and small sparkly tree branches to hold and twirl. It was awesome! You can tell Jennifer Hansen is serious about her academy and her dancers. We are loving it!

Every teacher we have had for four years you can tell has been hand chosen by the owner, the teachers are the cream of the crop. They have the students work hard, learn important life lessons (working as a team, being respectful, self confidence, taking criticism well), pay very close attention to technique, and are extremely creative. The most beautiful thing about this studio is watching how the students who go there blossom. It is amazing to watch the kids from the preschool ages into the teenage ages. Where they become such talented dancers, but young adults that are wonderful role models (in their manner, dance, behavior, etc.) to the younger ones. The recital has always been a magical time for our family. It is very organized, children are kept safe, it is done in a professional venue, and my kids ADORE being a part of it.
