I randomly saw the place while walking up Lan Kwai Fong Street and took one of their leaflets outside their building. As I flicked through, my face turned into a 'no way!' expression...50 HKD for eyebrow threading? 230 HKD for a Brazilian wax? I called them and made an appointment two days later. Don't get put off by the building; yes, it seems like it's falling apart but the place itself is welcoming and very clean. I got there just in time and was welcomed with some water before the therapist led me to one of their (three) rooms. I wanted to get my eyebrows done but my expectations weren't high. However, I asked her for advice on how to reshape them. She took her time and made a couple of observations, which made me feel more comfortable, then just got onto it and in a matter of 10 minutes I was out. My thoughts: very professional, quick and well performed. This is what you get anywhere else in Hong Kong, but for 120 HKD and not much advice. As I came out of the room I saw two people getting a manicure and it looked so good, I made the next appointment! Just be warned of two things: it's cash only and there is no lift to the 3rd floor.

After climbing up a couple of storeys of shabby stairs (just follow the arrows printed on A4 paper) you reach Lovely Spa. Ring the doorbell and you'll be let in to a small, dark room which is decorated quite cheaply yet comfortably. The treatment rooms are divided by thin plastic walls so you can hear every word being said within the tiny space and other spa goers can hear every wax strip being torn off which can be a little off putting. However, the service is professional and the price is SO CHEAP that you can ignore the basic fit out. It's literally only $230 for a Brazilian wax - half the price of places like Nude and Nu and the results are as good. Hot Stone Massages are only $300 whilst a spa manicure is $130. I bring my own colours for manicures but the range of options is reasonable. The cash only policy is a little annoying but understandable for such a small operation. All in all, Lovely Spa is not the best choice for a luxury, indulgent experience, but for basic grooming at a price you can't beat, this is the place.

I expected to be seated in the big public area with everyone else but we were able to have a private room for two people without requesting it. Yay! As with all massages, the comfort depends on the masseuse. In my case, I definitely enjoyed my massage so much that I was even able to doze off. On my visit, The cost averaged about 300 with tips. Of course this depends on the services you choose. Hygiene wise - this place is clean. Looking forward to another visit

I really enjoyed my Shanghai style pedicure and 50 minute neck/shoulder massage here…read more Pedicure: honestly, one of the best pedicures I've ever had. The lady had excellent attention to detail, spent about an hour trimming, buffing, filing, and shaping my nails and cuticles, and removed any callouses on my feet. I would have liked more of a foot massage, but I think that might be a different service. The nail polish was only a HK$50 add on - worth it! Massage: the woman massaging me had stronger hands than any masseuse or masseur I've ever met (and I've had a lot of massages!). Though the massage wasn't quite as targeted at trigger points as I'm used to from the states, the woman did a great job of loosening my shoulder muscles by applying appropriately firm pressure. In all, I left with considerably less tension in my shoulders, painted toe nails, and only out HK$410. I'll be back!

Don't hold any fantasy for this spa, this is just a basic place for foot steaming. However, the interior is nice, the faux slate stone walls and floor giving it a clean, modern look. Service is good, and the clothes that I change into for the steaming looks new and clean. The staff told me that they send their laundry out to clean. As a first timer I get a discounted price of $98 (normal is $138), and I added a 20 min shoulder massage for a small fee. Massage was good if not excellent. They did not push me to buy packages and add ons, which I appreciate. This place is right by the Prince Edward MTR. Exit B2 and it's in the building across the street to your left.

If you had had any experience with foot massage places, you'll probably find that most of them are…read moremuch of a muchness, with the quality depending mainly on the masseuse that you have that day, rather than anything else. Foot Spa Garden is one of those venues, which is very much like all the other foot massages places. It is a perfectly nice place to have a foot massage, with perfectly well skilled masseurs. However, what elevates Foot Spa Garden from the crowd, is that it is a very nice venue. It is quite new, only 18 months old, so it's probably so it hasn't suffered from the foot traffic (haha, see what I did there) that some of the other foot massage places have seen. This means, the venue is still clean and well maintained. Inside the spa, there are a number of small nooks with only 2 to 4 chairs in each. There isn't the large living room deal with twenty massage chairs all crammed in, which means that you feel very secluded and private. The downside is, these nooks can make you feel like you are sitting in a corridor, but that may just be my personal feeling. Foot Spa Garden is more expensive then many of the more local style foot massage places at HKD294 for 75 mins. In fact, it is nearly double the cost of the joints on Caine Road. Is it worth paying so much more for a slightly more pleasant environment? I'm not sure. The massage is nearly identical, in terms of the skill of the masseur, and the service offered; foot bath, massage, Shanghai pedicure. I just don't think that it is twice as good.

You are then led off to change into their shorts and slippers, and lockers where you can put away your belongings. The massage room is dimly lit, and relatively quiet: it's a communal room so some low noise is unavoidable, and even some loud snores, lol. After the massage, you are invited to spend as much time as you like in their little tea room, which is decked up to look like the last century, sipping tea of small tea cups. Unfortunately, the massage does not live up. The masseuse does not seem to have a clue how to spend that much time with a pair of feet, and all she did is to rub them up and down, up and down... It does not hurt, but does not relax much either. If you want to just spend an hour or two away from the hustle and bustle on the streets above, just to rest your feet and take a nap even, this is not a bad choice. But if you are looking for serious massage, skip this gimmicky tourist trap and go elsewhere.
