This review concerns pricing transparency and the estimating process. During the visit, the representative remained in his car while preparing an estimate using photos. The estimate listed my front yard as 2,000 sq ft, which is incorrect; the actual size is approximately 700-1,000 sq ft. When I questioned this, I was told that the square footage did not matter because the price would be the same regardless. This made the on-site estimating process difficult to understand. If pricing is not meaningfully affected by square footage, there is no clear reason to document it--particularly when it is recorded inaccurately and then stated to be irrelevant. After the visit, the company emailed me stating that the quoted price represents their minimum pricing, and that any yard up to 4,000 sq ft is charged the same starting rate. While this clarification is noted, it directly contradicts what was explained during scheduling and during the visit, where pricing was described as being based on square footage and treatment type, and where I was told pricing would increase at a lower threshold. I was also quoted $120 for pre- and post-emergent weed control, including post-emergent treatment despite there being no visible weeds present. According to the company's own description, post-emergent herbicide is intended to treat existing, visible weeds, making the recommendation questionable given the condition of the yard. Additionally, the company advertises a $25 promotional coupon on its website. This was never mentioned or offered during the appointment or follow-up communication, despite the quote being presented as a firm price. When I raised questions about pricing overall, the interaction felt dismissive rather than consultative. For additional context, a family member uses the same company in the same city, lives approximately 15 minutes away, has a larger yard, and pays around $60 every six months for the same pre- and post-emergent service. I was unable to receive a clear explanation for why I was quoted double the price for a smaller area. For further context, I later reviewed the actual invoice for the same service from this company for my grandfather's larger nearby yard (1400 sq), which itemized usage of chemicals and totaled $57. At $120, this quote exceeds the rates of many weed control providers in Tucson. I ultimately received an $80 quote elsewhere and chose to proceed with that company. Based on the inconsistencies between the sales explanation, the on-site estimate, the follow-up email regarding minimum pricing, and the handling of advertised promotions, I cannot recommend this company to anyone seeking clear, consistent, and transparent pricing. read more

In September 2025, I hired Essential Pest Control to work at my residence at REMOVEDI wanted them to check out my attic and ensure that there were no rodents there. I asked them to make sure the attic was free of droppings or any other indication of rodent activity. I also instructed them to cover all of the bird holes in our eaves that were either missing mesh covers or had damaged mesh covers so that no rodents could enter. My home had been sold, but had not yet closed and this work was necessary before the home sale could be completed. On three occasions, someone came out from Essential and looked in our attic. After the third visit, I was told the attic was completely rodent free. They also came out and put wired mesh on 11 bird holes. Unfortunately, none of the work that Essential did was accceptable and led to problems with my home sale. During the final walk through of our home, the new homeowners discovered mouse droppings and a dead mouse when they looked in the attic. This was just a few days after I had been told the attic was completely rodent free. I also found out that there were between 35-40 bird holes that had not been covered that were either completely missing mesh screens or had damaged screens. I had already moved to Oregon at this time, but my realtor verified this information for me. The new homeowners wanted to back out of the home sale at this point, but my realtor was able to hire someone else to come out and do the work that Essential had been hired to do. Fortunately, my realtor was able to save the sale. Essential wants to charge me $475 even though they never completed the job they had been hired to do. I've called on several occasions to resolve the issue, but still have not talked to an owner as I have requested. Yesterday I finally spoke to a manager, Damian, who offered to cut the bill in half. I do not feel I should have to pay anything as Essential did not do the job for which they were hired. read more

We've lived in the Tucson desert for 9 years. Since we changed to Essential Pest, about 6 years ago, we've had no problems with termites, insects, spiders or scorpions in the house. Had sugar ants once - one treatment and they were gone. Had some carpet beetles last year and again, one treatment and problem solved. Very good communication with the scheduling staff, professional technicians, good pricing. Essential Pest has been a win for us. read more

I appreciate a response from the owner, and I admit that they ultimately can't have complete control of the bug population. But when an elderly woman uses their service and gets poor response on a failed bee extermination, I still have my reservations on their quality. read more

I contacted Essential Pest control to do a preventative treatment for a rental property where this was a requirement of vacating, which I had missed until the last minute. Manny does and excellent job in keeping our house free of bugs, ants and pretty much anything else. Thx

Had a bee invasion while both my wife and I were out of town. There were two hives on our patio ceiling, about 16' up. We called Essential, they came out and removed them before we arrived home. This was not an easy removal due to the height - need a serious ladder to get up there. They billed us a few days later, reasonable rates. I'd definitely recommend them. read more

Huge shout out to Jerry! We called them thinking we had a couple nests in our dead palm trees, the technician came and out turns out we had a COUPLE HUNDRED NESTS! Crazy!!! Jerry and his other helper came out when it was 106 degrees outside and trimmed the palm trees and sprayed all the wasps and made me feel very happy about getting it all done in an efficient and respectful manner. I also appreciated that if for any reason I saw more wasps or anything they would come back out and spray again. I really appreciate their thoroughness! Happy happy client! read more

I have been using Essential Pest Control going on two years. They offer auto pay, and are very flexible in terms of scheduling. The service technicians (who service my home) are knowledgeable, go the extra mile, and are very respectful. They were a referral- and I can see why! read more

Our technician Robert was wonderful. The scheduling left a lot to be desired. We were on a monthly service and several times they would call to schedule after 2 weeks. I could not edit my review below so here is the continuing saga. The owner responded to my last review with the following, "As the park is the actual customer, we would communicate directly with them." Not only is their weedkilling ineffective, it is also invasive. Let me explain. RV park has told applicators and account manager to not spray OCCUPIED sites. Saturday morning, I woke up to Green dye all over my site and they had even sprayed the chemical on my water supply and electric supply to the RV. I contacted my parks management and sent pictures that showed the chemical eating through the hose. My parks management, to their credit, asked to have the hose reimbursed by Essential. She told me she would relay their response. Monday morning (7/11/22)I get a call from a woman (didnt get her name) at Essential Pest. Remember, owner stated that would never contact a park tennent and they only communicate with the Park office....yeah...not so much. Let me tell you that these reviews about terrible customer service are NO JOKE. She asked for my account information and I said I didnt have it. Explained the situation and that she needed to contact the Park office. She immediately raised her voice in defense telling me that this chemical would not eat through a hose. No apologies. No affirmation that spraying someone's personal property with a green dye and herbicide is not OK. She also did not acknowledge that the applicators had been told to not spray OCCUPIED sites. Probably for liability reasons. No mention of the fact that the MSDS says applicators should wear PPE and they weren't. When my RV park manager called me, she asked if I had called essential pest and I said no, they called me this morning. She told me that the lady she spoke to told her I had called them several times and was rude to her. Yes I was rude, as a reaction to her defensive tone. If she would have just called the Park office as I suggested, she could have saved herself a lot of butthurt. I offered to bring my phone up to the office to show her my call logs. she expressed her frustration with the customer service here as well. She was confident that the woman at Essential had lied to her, especially after seeing my phone records. The only result so far is that they are kicking my request for a $25 hose reimbursement up the chain. No responsibility for their own actions here. There are plenty of pest/herbicide companies in Tucson. Find another one. read more

I have dealt with several pest control companies through the many years we have been in this house and Essential Pest Control has provided the best customer service yet. They were able to schedule us for an inspection quickly and Joseph, the inspector was courteous and well informed. He answered all of questions in an easy-to-understand manner. I was able to sign the contract online to speed things up. They scheduled the treatment quickly, when a client had to re-schedule they called and Tony came to apply the liquid. He had manners and knowledge about what he was doing, answered all our questions clearly. I highly recommend Essential. read more

I use Essential for monthly spraying. I have for almost 30 years. I have never had a problem with pests. This is the first time I have used them for spraying pre-emergent. This was the second spray of the year. They were wonderful. They called first to set up appointment. They followed all instructions. read more

It's always a balance of factors when picking a company: 1- Cost/Value 2- Flexibility/Availability 3- Thoroughness/Effectiveness 4- Process Etc... You come to expect compromises when focusing on one thing over another, for example, if you buy the cheapest service then you're almost guaranteed some measure of "nickel and dime-ing" along the way. Essential Pest Control is a Unicorn: out of the top four yelp companies, they offered the greatest flexibility, the best price/value without a compromise on thoroughness, and exceptionally professional attitudes (prompt, courteous, and respectful of time--cordially conversational without chewing your ear off). I absolutely would use them in the future and recommend them to others. read more

Most of us in Tucson are working jobs which keeps us busy most of our weekdays and not interested in losing an hour or longer managing weeds. The Essential Pest Control was great for me and I was happy with the results even after two years! They use a green powder which prevents the unwanted weeds from appearing. read more

Most disappointing and incompetent customer service I have ever experienced. We bought our home in July 2018 and inherited the end of a Sentricon contract. The contract had one bait refill service left and Essential was eager to have us sign a new contract under our name. We scheduled them to come out anytime after 3 pm (when my husband gets home) and no one showed up. This happened three times before someone finally came. Each time the tech would either not show up, or would arrive before 3 and leave a note stating they'd missed us. On one attempt the tech called me to ask if he could come early, because otherwise, he'd have to wait around till our scheduled time. I kindly explained to him that he needed to come after 3 pm as previously stated, and he said okay. Can you guess what happened? He never showed. I continually let the scheduler know how unhappy we were, especially considering the pending contract we had up in the air, and she never seemed to care. A month or so after the stations were refilled I started getting phone calls saying that if we weren't going to renew then they needed to come pull the stations out. Against my better judgement I called back to schedule. When I requested, as always, that they come after 3 pm, the scheduler tried to suggest I schedule earlier because the techs like to go home early, and even suggested we just leave our gate unlocked all day, which I refused. She agreed to schedule at 3 pm. On 05/28/19 the tech called at 1:15 pm asking if he could come early. I explained to him that he needed to wait until 3 and he said, "okay no problem." My husband got home at 2:30 to a note on the door written at 1:45 pm stating they'd missed us... When I called I was told that the tech had actually asked the manager what to do and the manager instructed him to come back and clock out, instead of coming to our scheduled appointment. I was never given an apology, was not handed over to the manager as I'd asked (he'd gone for the day by 3 pm apparently) and was just asked to reschedule. Needless to say, we declined to reschedule and are going to tear them out of the ground ourselves and throw them away. read more

After getting estimates from three pest control companies, my mother and I picked Essential Pest Control to get rid of our pesky termites. The man that came to our home was very informative. He was sweet with my mom, very friendly. He found problems that the other two companies missed. We loved that he broke out his tablet to show us pictures and explain what our problem was and what his company would do. As he got us an estimate, my mom and I cringed because he sounded like the best option so we just KNEW he was going to be the most expensive. You should have seen our faces when he was $200 and $400 cheaper than the other companies! We scheduled an appointment and they came out a few days later. The two men that came out were 45 minutes late. We wished they would have called to let us know. But when they arrived they were polite and worked quickly so we didn't have to listen to the drilling for too long. When they left, they hadn't moved our stuff back against the wall (we have a messy yard with stuff stacked against the walls) so we had to do that ourselves. But aside from those two complaints, which weren't enough to knock off a star, we were very happy with the service we received from Essential and look forward to doing business with them in the future! Edit: It's been a little over a year now and we had a HUGE bee hive in our eaves. We called Essential and someone came out that evening to take care of it. He killed the bees and came back with a partner the next evening to dispose of the hive and the dead bees. My mom had also trapped a Palo Verde bug under a bowl that she was too afraid to deal with. The guys got rid of it for her AND found a few more in the yard that they saved us from as well! (Okay so they were dead Palo Verde bugs but they're still terrifying!) The price was more than reasonable, especially after a small discount for being returning customers. Again, we are very happy with our service and have already recommended them to some of our family members. read more

Their customer service is so terrible. I asked them several times to call me before they showed up at my house and they were unable to do that. I had just recently moved into a new place and within a couple days of being there, realized there was a pest problem. I wasn't able to unpack let alone unload any of my belongings until my Landlord corrected the issue. They reached out to Essential Pest Control and I couldn't be happier. I admit that I was stressed and frustrated with the whole ordeal. I called numerous times to the receptionist at Essential Pest Control with probably a million and one questions. I'm sure I was annoying. However, they were understanding and reassured me every time that I was in good hands. The tech who came out and took care of everything was Carlos. I just wanted to thank him again for being so incredibly nice and thorough! You've helped keep my sanity lol! read more

The idea of killer bees under my shed was enough to make me want to nuke the site from orbit (just to be sure) but since I didn't have a spaceship or another house to move into, I called Essential. They charged 125 dollars to come and drill holes in the floor of my old shed and spray the hell out of the hive. Unfortunately, the bees didn't take the hint and stuck around, so Essential came back and resprayed for free. Fast forward a week, and I'm tearing the old shed down. When I pull up the wooden floor, I discover the remains of the honeycomb: nearly seven feet long and a foot across. No wonder it took two tries! Thanks Essential! read more

I see our treatment person once every 2 months. That is more than I see insects thanks to this company. That about says it all.

We had some angry bees in our eaves so I called Essential Pest Management. I speak as a Licensed Pest Control Tech. My apartment is spotless clean. In my humble opinion Essential Pest Control is,a scam. Case in point. The source of my cockroach problem is my nieghbors directly to my east. Essential Never came by on any type of a regular schedule. A big no no in the pest control business. Every several months were their schedule. Their first dereliction of duty. For you see for one, cockroaches adapt quickly. They have been walking this earth over 400 million years. They will survive Atomic & Nuclear Fallout. To the point that if cockroaches infest your Microwave, they will not die when you engage the microwave oven. Whatever a pest control company sprays one month, they Must change that solution the next month for the fact that the cockroaches Will adapt to the previous months chemicals. As well, the babies will be impervious to the spray that was that applied the previous month. A female cockroach will lay thousands of eggs in her life span of 7 to 13 months. The shells containing these babies are rock hard. They hatch in deep crevices. Cockroaches travel at 59 inches pet second. Quicker than a Cheetah. They can hold their breath for 40 seconds. After almost 6 months, Essential Pest Control showed up at my apartment. I instinctively knew that after whatever chemichel they apllied, that I would have more cocroaches. Sure enough. Where as my cockroach problem was under control based on my own diligence & resources. For the fact that I purchased chemichels from the Do It Yourself Pest control store here in town. After 2 weeks of Essential Pest Control showing up I now have a major infestation of cockroaches to the point that I am under seize. I can only conclude that Essential Pest Control is a scam that depends on their clients to call back for a more expensive application. Absolute worst pest control company. I am not the only individual in this large complex who shares these facts. read more

Do NOT buy the spray option they offer. I bought it for my house, didn't make a dent in the problem, and when I didn't go for their pitch to cut holes in my walls and charge me $100 every 15 minutes (seriously...$100 for every 15 minutes) they said they would come spray again but it would negate my warranty. They came out again to spray and again it did nothing. Complete ripoff. read more
